We stayed here for two nights when visiting Malang. We came here on a recommendation in the Lonely Planet, which said it was great value for money. We did not find it to be that.
It is set in a rather luxourious street just outside Malang city centre. The building itself is an old colonial villa, which must at one time have been stunning, with a small courtyard etc. Most rooms are situated around the courtyard and some have their own bathrooms/showers. The cheaper rooms have no toilet or bathroom, but there are shared facilities. We had one of the largest rooms, with a private bathroom. There was a pungent smell of urine and the wasbasin (filled with water and a 'scooper' to wash yourself in the absence of a proper shower) was full of mosquito larvae!!! This meant restless nights and quite a few mosquito bites. Not a nice experience.
The owners are getting on a bit and although very friendly, seem to have lost their touch somewhat. Cleanliness definitely leaves a lot to be desired. All in all, the place feels tired and past its best-before date. Ok for a few nights, or if there's no alternative, but not recommended for a longer stay.More
