Plangon is a small community forest covering the slopes of a hill. The area associated with the Kanoman house of the Sultan of Cirebon and some tombs of Kanoman princes and kings can be found at the peak of the hill. This small tomb complex even resembles the rust-red outer walls of the Keraton Kanoman in town. The forest is about 15 kilometres from downtown Cirebon and would probably be regarded as a reasonable minor sight. There is one problem, however- the troops of macaques.
These long-tailed monkeys have been habituated to human contact and have come to expect hand-outs of peanuts. They are extremely aggressive and pesky, though locals will offer to scare them off with long sticks- for a small charge. If you have been to a monkey forest before, you can probably give this one a miss.
