I had heard about this Gardens even as a child and when the opportunity came to visit, it was like a dream come true. Without doubt it is the best attraction in Bogor. It is steeped in history and for an interested person, a great education in colonial botanical history

It's a huge park, that's for sure. However, it took more than an hour to drive (non-peak) there from Jakarta. It was hazy there because the workers were burning rubbish (mountains of it). There we were, expecting fresh air. Oh well.

Giving ourselves an insurance day between arriving from the UK and flying off to Kalimantan and as everything went according to plan we arranged for a car and driver to take us to Bogor Botanic Gardens. The gardens are well laid out with good directional signage with many plants, trees and lakes. As other reviewers have commented, better signage on individual plants would help. It is also a good place for bird lovers.

These gardens are primarily a place for research so are not so relaxed and welcoming as those in Singapore but a fascinating collection nevertheless. The orchid house was a little disappointing, not very extensive and few in flower at the time of our visit in early February.

However it was an excellent way to fill a day but, as the gardens are extensive, be sure to pick up a map at reception.

Extensive open gardens with lots of paths to wander. Some limited signage for major trees and plants. Nice for a picnic!
