This is a wonderful place to visit, and is a highlight of a trip to Bogor. You can spend hours or even days in here, it's so big.

It's a very good place for family outing or friends gathering. Enjoy the fresh air and playing around, not to mention they are thousands if not hundreds of species of plants to see. It's good education place like Zoo for the young ones. My friends and I came here as a Jakarta visitor, we spent around 1 hour here only able to cover around 1/3 or the garden. It's nice place for photographers too.

It is a very good and natural recreational spot for families at Bogor. The istana(palace) covers one third of the garden. It will be an ideal choice if you have the free time to jog around, cycling and picnic.

These gardens have historical value and is a great place to cool off after a long day of traveling. The gardens were first "developed" by botanist & governor Stamford Raffles in the 1800s. The trees (and its roots) are huge and there are lots of historical architecture as well. Many people have picnics on the grounds. You need to travel by car to explore the gardens because it's really extensive... unless you don't mind walking around. But cars do travel slowly, and you can park your car on one side of the road and walk around a little until you decide to see another side. Traveling by motorbikes and bicycles are good ideas too. When you go a little deeper into the gardens, you'll find the Bogor Palace, which offers a nice landscape with its man-made lake. The Cafe Dedaunan is decent but a little too expensive. Also, when you get into the gardens you get free entrance to the Zoology Museum, which is quite scary but interesting... probably because of its old interior. The botanical gardens should not be skipped when you're in Bogor.

In the centre of the city of Bogor the Botanical Gardens are a cooling retreat from the heat, pollution and traffic jams! The gardens contain more than 15,000 varieties of trees and plants and being over 80 hectares the best way to see most of the gardens is by car, sadly, although the cars do go very slow. There is just too much to cover by foot although wandering around for a few hours or so would be sufficient to see the amazing array of plants, lotus ponds, giant bamboo, orchid gardens and the local Indonesians who picnic there very weekend. The Presidential Summer Palace, circa 1856, is also located in the gardens with herds of deer roaming the grounds: a memorial to Olivia Raffles, wife of Sir Stamford Raffles and an old colonial Dutch cemetery are also worth a look.
