“Good and bad experiences”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

Our family of 6 adults had confirmed booking for 3 rooms and airport-hotel transfers with Amaroossa Hotel. We arrived on 21 March 2013 and after immigration and collecting our luggages, we went out about 10 a.m. to look for an Amaroossa Hotel representative. None could be seen. Nevertheless we waited. After about 15 minutes, we saw a rep from Hilton Hotel and requested his help to call Amaroossa Hotel. We were told that the transport was on the way. After another ONE HOUR, no transport came. I called Amaroossa and again was told that the transport was on the way. At 11.30 a.m. we saw two men in Kagum hotels uniforms. We approached them and asked for their assistance. They called Amaroossa hotel on our behalf and again told that the transport was on the way. But we told them that we had been waiting for 1 hour and 30 mins. By 12 noon, these 2 kind Kagum hotels drivers decided to send us to Amaroossa Hotel. We are indeed grateful to Mr Ade and Mr Andy Irwan. Our anger was cooled by their kind actions.

On arrival at Amaroossa, the Guest Relations Officer, Mr Ilya, met us and apologised for our bad experience. His sincere apology and very friendly demeanour doused whatever anger that remained in our hearts. He took our crticisms with a smiling, humble and apologetic manner.
All of us were impressed by his professional guest relations behaviour.

On the first night, the air-con in one of our rooms was not functioning well. A technician was sent and he tried to fix the problem by pumping gas into the condenser. After less than an hour, the room was warm again. The same technician came and wanted to pump more gas.
We refused and requested for a fan instead. No fan was available, but they sent a portable air-con. It was working well but also very noisy. The next morning we requested for a change of room. By the time we came back to the hotel in the evening, Mr Ilya met us and assured us that the air-con was replaced by a brand new one, the installation of which he personally witnessed.
Again Mr Ilya came to the rescue and we were very grateful for that.

After 4 days, we checked out of the hotel. While waiting for the transfer to the airport, we were told that only 1 vehicle was available for 4 of us, and we needed to take a taxi and pay on our own. We were again annoyed not because we had to pay but the hotel could not keep their promise. Finally we managed to get the free transfer. Although the staff apologised, these hassles were unnecessary and affected our expectations of an enjoyable and pleasang stay in Bandung.

Room Tip: Higher floor and not facing the main road.

I was tempted to rate the hotel Average given the air-conditioning fiasco when we stayed in March 2013, however, the staff went above and beyond the circumstances and should be praised.

On arrival, we were informed that the central air-conditioning for the entire hotel had broken down - the lobby, restaurant, rooms, hallways etc. were humid and hot. There was an ongoing scramble to install make-shift split units and/or portable air-con units in the rooms - many of which were non-efficient at cooling the rooms at all - we required a change of room mid-evening as our first room's unit went on for a few minutes and then turned off blowing room temp. air. As other reviewers had mentioned, the makeshift air-con units and the tubing etc. had to have an outlet - meaning the windows/balcony doors had to be permanently partially opened - allowing for warm air and noise in the room. I can only hope that this is not permanent.

Staff were very accommodating and did very well with a situation which was beyond their control.

The hotel itself is lovely - large rooms and bathrooms - with good amenities. A small pool - for dipping and cooling off rather than swimming. Buffet breakfasts had a good spread - with different stations for a variety of local dishes.

Location - walkable to factory outlets (10 min walk away). But traffic is horrible in Bandung at anytime of the day...

I would not hesitate to return to this hotel once the air conditioning fiasco has been resolved.

This is our 2nd experience with Kagum hotels. The first one was at Grand Seriti few years back (it was an okay experience) and we thought we'd give it another chance. We booked through CIMB Niaga Clicks since they're having a promotional rate with Kagum hotel chains.

We arrived around 3 pm and immediately greeted with strange smell at the lobby. The room wasn't ready (they said they needed to check the room one more time to ensure everything works properly). After waiting for a few minutes in a lobby (accompanied by flies, see my pic), the receptionist escorted us to our room.
On our way to our room, the receptionist casually told us that the central air conditioning system wasn't working and every room got a split AC installed instead.

The room itself is a bit dark but spacious. I was surprised by the AC installed (see my pic). The AC indoor & outdoor unit connection was through the window so the window couldn't be properly shut. We could hear the street noise all day & night long.
Found dirty towels left inside the shower and immediately called the hotel staff to clean it up. And while we're trying hard to get some nap time, some noise came from the bath room. Apparently the lighting behind the mirror had fallen apart. We called the hotel staff again to repair it. Their solution was to place few duck tapes to hide the lights *sigh*. And of course after few hours, the whole thing fell apart again (see my pic).
Water was never hot, only somewhat warm. Definitely not warm enough for Bandung. Tried calling the hotel staff to fix it, only to receive promises that they will reset the water heater. Nothing changed.
Parking was also challenging due to limited space, they provided free valet though.
After not so much sleep throughout the night, we were expecting good breakfast. Plenty of variety but quality is mediocre. Most food were served cold & dry and didn't taste alright.
Overall, disappointing experience. Definitely will not return and will not give Kagum hotels another try.

Room Tip: Not sure if any, but ask for room far from street with proper AC

We arrived 2 hrs early, and staff was kind enough to allow an early check in the moment the room was ready.
Aircon was down throughout the whole hotel when we arrived . Staff were very apologetic and had multi-split aircons installed.
When the aircon leaked, they gave us a change of room without us asking, thumbs up for the effort. But time was wasted still

Pros- Friendly staff, always ready to help and smiling
Fast room service
Very comfortable beds, slept like babies Beautiful luxurious design, hubby and i had a romantic stay
Easily 5-10 mins walk to Jalan Riau, where all the factory outlets are
Free airport transfer

Cons-
Free wifi only available at lobby/ restaurant
Breakfast selection limited, but some local dishes were really good
High Noise level from main roads
Aircons were leaking even in the second room, but didn't bother us much

We had visited Bandung a year ago and had made a mental note to stay at a more centrally located Amaroossa hotel. We booked months ahead and discovered a major airconditioning problem at the hotel when we arrived. Hotel should have informed us that the entire central airconditioning system had shut down. However they did try to recover the service level.

Service: We had requested for 3 x twin rooms but they could not allocate these rooms because of the airconditioning problems. The service staff were very helpful in explaining to us about the airconditioning but we had to try out 3 rooms before we found one that as fairly suitable. Fairly meaning, the airconditioning was bare cool. Nevertheless, wasted time changing rooms to find one that was suitable.

The hotel should have emailed us in advance to warn us of the central airconditioning failure as the system had shut down a week earlier, and I would have changed to another hotel nearby. It was too much trouble to shift rooms and tolerate the "cool" airconditioning.

Value: Good value at booking.com prices and Hotel made up for the difficulties with an additional 10% discount. Was it worth it? No, we would have stayed in another hotel.

Sleep qualtiy: suffered because of the in efficient portable airconditioning system provided as a service recovery.

Cleanliness: Very clean and tidy.

Location: Good, near the Heritage shopping mall, and SMART factory outlets. Other outlets accessible by taxi but beware of the traffic jams that plague Bandung during the peak hours. The traffic literally does not move.

Rooms: Large, comfortable and good shower / bath.

Spa: Available but we did not try it.

Breakfast: A sumptious breakfast waited us every morning. This may be the reason to tolerate the airconditioning. Live stations for eggs, noodles, waffles. bread, rice. Eat till late and you can skip lunch.

Room Tip: Ask if the airconditioning is repaired as at 7th March 2013, or else skip to another hotel.

Thank you for staying at Amaroossa Hotel.

We appreciate your feedback regarding the irregularities with the central air conditioning system.

However an adequate solution was already in place at that time and the remaining issues have been improved accordingly in order to ensure a great experience at our hotel.

We shall further keep improving our service level and on behalf of our staff we are looking forward welcoming you some time in the future for an amazing experience at the Amarossa Hotel.

My husband and I stayed at The Amaroossa for the first time in November 2012. We booked directly through the hotel's website, after reading a number of good reviews of the hotel online.

Check-in was quite swift and upon first impression, we were satisfied with our Superior King room. Room was spacious with lush carpeting and furniture, ambience was very warm and romantic. The bed and pillows was comfortable. Lighting was sufficient and pleasant. Air conditioning works well, the 32" LCD TV with quite a selection of international channels is great, internet with LAN connection works fine in the room.

Bathrobes, bath towels and hand towels were provided and replaced daily. Lighting in the bathroom was sufficient.
However, the bathtub was rather small and the hot water took forever to get hot. Even after we asked for the technician to fix this, the water was nowhere near hot, probably just slightly hotter than lukewarm.

The thick curtains, when closed fully, blocked the sun and outside lights, which we found great as we could sleep late or nap in the afternoon without having to worry of being woken up by excessive sunlight.
However, room was not soundproof enough from traffic sound, but this is minor if you're a deep sleeper.

Breakfast was satisfactory with quite a vast selection of Indonesian, Asian and Continental breakfast menu. We especially enjoyed the traditional Indonesian menu, but didn't care much for the sushi.

Parking was sometimes challenging because parking space on the basement was very very small, but we almost always find a spot. The only time we couldn't find a spot, we just left our car with the valet, so problem was solved.

Location is perfect if you're in Bandung for dining and shopping around the city center. We are not very familiar with Bandung and the streets can be quite confusing for us sometimes, so the hotel's location is perfect for us.

My husband and I went on our anniversary to Bandung and stayed at this hotel.

It was a wonderful stay considering it fits 100% our expectations of plush decor, great bed and comfortable carpeted. Oh and it is super clean!!!

The hotel reception helps to call a cab if u need one, otherwise, its a gd 5 mins walking distance to jalan dago where there are lots of factory outlets on both sides of the road.

Hotel staffs are nice and i would definitely recommend staying in this hotel when you visit Bandung.
