“Ask for Bale #3!”
Reviewed September 19, 2011

This place was featured on Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations...request bale #3 if you want to sit where Tony sat...plus, it's got the best view of the rice paddy!!

The restaurant itself is HUGE, and the landscaping is outstanding. I definitely recommend the Balinese smoked duck (need to order one day in advance). It comes with two juices, rice and veggies. Maybe order a couple other entrees to share. The crispy duck was super dry...nothing special. Nasi Campur (mixed rice) was pretty tasty but spicy.

Be prepared to wait if you don't have a reservation. And, even with a reservation, be prepared for slow service because they are BUSY! But, I think sitting at the bale with some friends enjoying a lazy afternoon is worthwhile.

My chef friend Vivian and I ate at the Bebek Bengil twice in a row, we were delighted by the view of this singular and beautifully decorated place in the midst of splendid rice terraces with the ducks running around..we were seated in a very Balinese platform with stilts which had a low table and cushions, very private and charming..The waiters as all Balinese people are, were kind, friendly and helpful! the first night we had Crispy duck with all the trimmings and we just loved how perfectly well done it was, we wondered about the smoked duck and we showed up the next night.. for this you need to order the day before and we had not... but somehow, they produced our smoked bird! For $25 we had a whole duck, satay, vegetables, rice and delicious fruit juices...This was one of the food highlights of our Asian trip and if one is in Bali, one should not miss it!

“Romantic if you get the right spot, tasty duck”
Reviewed September 11, 2011

Don't have high expectation and you will not be dispointed. First, try to get a seating on the low table on each side of the garden. When this mission has been accomplished all you have to do is sit back relax and enjoy your dinner.

This is not gastronomy but at 9USD a main course, what would you expect. Well, I got exactly what I expected: A tasty duck, perfectly cooked, still juicy, a good service ( I can deal with no smile, as long as it's efficient).

When we arrived, we asked for the smoked duck even if we had not ordered it 24hours prior. They still had one and we ordered it. While we should have sticked with the crispy duck, the whole package that came with the smoked duck was well worth it: A huge salad, chicken satay, the duck, rice and 2 fresh fruit drinks. All this for a wonderfull 22USD.

I agree the duck are small but you're not in north America and the portion are large enough to fill one's appetite.

“Best roasted duck on Bali”
Reviewed September 10, 2011

The setting is spectacular: sit on a typical balinese Bale with lotos-ponds and rice-fields around you while you enjoy the best roasted duck on Bali.
We came for the speciality that place is famous for and just wished to have the time to come again!
The place is expensive for Bali, but every Rupia ist well spent!
