After reading an article in our local Review Weekly Mag in Melbourne, about Melbourne chefs leading Bali's culinary revolution, I was prompted to try some of the suggested restaurants. Janet DeNeefe (ex Melburnian) started this place in 1992 and she really seems to have succeeded.
We had delicious food, in a casual and inviting atmosphere.
We shared Feta Mint Cigars, which were so delicious. Super flavoursome Feta in perfectly crispy pastry. We hadn't had lunch, so also shared Vegetarian Spring rolls, also amazing.
For mains I had a chicken sate, which came with corn fritters, red rice and coconut beans. Lots of little amounts of sambal, salad and tasty stuff. My only complaint was that the chicken came on bones whereas waitress had said chicken was ground. In all fairness, there was also some ground chicken on skewers, so let's just put this one down to mis-communication. My husband had Nasi Goreng with chicken which he enjoyed but felt could have been even nicer with some chilli or something to spice it up.
Despite being very full, we managed to squeeze in dessert as we had read good reviews. I was not disappointed at all, indulging in lime tart, which was smooth and tangy. I think a little cream or ice cream would have been nice with it, but it really was one of the best citrus tarts I have ever had. Paris Match French Vanilla slice was enjoyed by my husband, but not the best he has had, as he felt it was not light and fluffy and the pastry was a little soggy.
We also had a pot of tea, and an iced cappuccino ( which my husband highly recommends), a couple of wines and an extra large Bintang. This amazing feast was around $64 Australian. Great value for a very high quality dinner.
I definitely recommend Luna Casa and I'm really glad to have tried it.
Ps. Thanks to Janet for also recommending the Mexican restaurant, Taco Casa, as being "better than I've had in Melbourne" in the same article. We agree!
