Description: Cafe Wayan and Bakery Established in 1986 We are happy to have had so many nice guests come to enjoy our food for over 31 years. Cafe Wayan started as a small warung (a local food stall) where Ibu Wayan sold black rice pudding and coffee to the rice farmers on what has now become Monkey Forest Road. Tourist began walking down "the path" to the Monkey Forest and stopped by for a coffee, snacks or to buy peanuts for the monkeys. Ibu Wayans always love to cook as a child and soon the menu began to expand. Return friends to Ubud began helping with recipes of western dishes as long term visitors and residents sometimes miss their own food too. Ibu Wayan began traveling abroad and learned more western cooking with Chef Joe Schultz of India Joes's restaurant in Santa Cruz, California and also learned the art of Thai cuisine in Bangkok.

“Good food, romantic venue”
Reviewed August 6, 2014

Lovely food, a great spot for a romantic dinner. Ask to be seated out the back for some atmosphere. We ate Indonesian food, which was excellent.

We had 5 dishes and 1 was good. The Balinese special was overcooked and very chewy. Duck curry was nice. Squid was overcooked and chewy. Nasi goreng seafood was also not fresh - the seafood was dried out and chewy. The rice pudding was black rice on the bottom and coconut milk on top, like it had separated out (we have 4 different rice puddings on our trip and this was probably the worst - a couple have been outstanding). The carrot cake was dried out and we left over half of it. We were sat next to a coach full of tourists too, who were very loud, whereas other restaurants have been very personable. Definitely didn't live up to the reviews. Very disappointed.

“Always a treat”
Reviewed August 5, 2014

Love Cafe Wayan. The menu is extensive and tasty, they have a wide range of indo and other food. Service is good, drinks are always great, but the main attraction for us is the authentic Balinese feeling in the gardens, sitting on a low table out back is a treat we look forward to every year.

“Nice garden in the middle of Monkey Forest Rd!”
Reviewed August 5, 2014

We stopped to Cafe Wayan for lunch based on the TA recommendations. The menu was basic Indonesian cuisine. Food arrived quickly and service was good. Everything was fine but not necessarily standout compared to some other places we ate during our 10 weeks in Ubud. I would recommend it if you are looking for basic Indonesian cuisine and you are in the neighborhood.
