Description: Murni, the owner of the equally famous Murni's Houses and Tamarind Spa, opened Ubud's first real restaurant in 1974 and it remains first in the hearts of many people today. The menu is varied and delicious and you can enjoy your drinks and meals and surf the Web using the free WiFi on one of four levels overlooking the river. Level 1: When you enter Murni's Warung, the first thing you'll notice is the view of the greenery on the river's hillside. The steel cable in the foreground supports the bridge next door. On the way to your table, you'll walk past a display cabinet of cakes and pastries that you should take a look at -- just so you'll know how much room to save for dessert. The restaurant is decorated with art from Murni's collection, including the small carvings high on the walls. Level 2: The large statue of Ganesha, the Elephant God, that greets you in the Lounge Bar was commissioned in 1997 and completed in early 2002. He and Murni are about the same height. This is a great place to have cocktails or meet friends for a drink. You can also eat here. Level 3: We generally reserve this level for parties, wedding receptions and birthday parties or when the Warung is overflowing. It can seat about 50-60 people. Level 4: And finally you arrive just above the river. You'll enjoy the sound of flowing water with your candlelit dinner in the midst of exotic surroundings. Murni's Warung Shop is a good place to wander in while you are waiting for your meal. And enjoy our books, Forty Delicious Years and Secrets of Bali.

“Highly recommend Murni's”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

We have enjoyed Murni's food three times already, having been recommended by our driver on arrival to Ubud. First time was takeaway, which had excellent Lumpia. Second time was a Friday night after the rain, so we parked ourselves at a table on the lowest level overlooking the river for dinner, followed by a few post dinner drinks in the Lounge. Third time was for breakfast after a big night out. Each time we have experienced great hospitality from the staff and the food has been brilliant. I know there is at least one more visit before we depart Ubud in a week's time.

“Location and food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2013

We usually visit Murni's for the banana and caramel cake which is sublime and this case was no exception. Make sure you have it with the ginger sauce and ice-cream.
The Nasi Campur is also excellent and I enjoyed it so much I got a takeaway for dinner.
Make sure you sit downstairs overlooking the river and soak up the atmosphere.

“Delicious Balinese”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2013

We enjoyed an early dinner one night, sampling a few dishes and a few drinks to cool down after a hot day riding around on bikes. The service was exceptional ... very hospitable and helpful with some suggestions for some of the more eclectic dishes on the menu. Amazing location on the river with the vines providing a very 'green' experience!

“Good view. Everything else was average.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2013

The food here was nothing special to us. But the location and view is incredible.
The ants crawling around on the table and in the place mats were off putting. Does anybody check these things before they put them on the table?! Sigh.
I ordered the chicken satay and it comes out with the hot charcoal underneath but there was charcoal stuck to my satays! So I could only eat half of them which was annoying. The serving was also very small for the price paid. I only got about 5 mini satays.
I think I would only go back to this place for the view and maybe order a drink next time instead.

Thank you for your comments. I'm sorry about the ants. They must have discovered a crumb of one of our very delicious cakes lodged in the mat. I'm afraid that can happen quickly in the tropics. Murni

“Romantic”

This was a long walk from Monkey Forest street. Get a table at the lower floor which overlooks the river - stunning view! However, it is rather overpriced and food are just okay.
