“Relaxing...but I think it was overpriced”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2010

We stayed here for five nights and left on New Year's Day. The hotel is lovely and we booked a luxury suite. We had the one on the bottom and found it very spacious, but we asked to be moved to the upper level because it had a better view and was quieter (the people above us were noisy and seemed to be rearranging the furniture constantly). On our last night in the lower suite, we found one of the walls near the window crawling with ants. We found our second room cleaner, but it had a bit of an odd smell.

The staff here were lovely and they are very attentive and helpful. The food was overpriced compared to what's available in the area, and I would also agree that Botanica Spa (just down the street) is much better value and very professional. I found Kori Ubud's spa to be very clean though when i did use it. My husband and I both really enjoyed the breakfast included in room rate though!

Overall, we had a relaxing stay. But would we return? I would probably look around first.

We stayed for 4 nights in the hotel and the first two nights were spoiled by mice in the room... They would be running everywhere in the room and we barely slept because of the noise and the feeling they were running throught the bed. In the morning we found our fruits half eaten. Management moved us to a mice-free room and our stay was
greatly improved.
Besides this incident, we enjoyed our stay there. The design of the hotel is fantastic and the rooms are reallly huge and have a colonial touch, with high roofs and dark wood furniture. The pool is fantastic, the restaurant ok - we didn't try the spa. There's free wifi which is not that common in Bali.

The main downside of the hotel is its location : it's 45 mn away from the center (if you walk, which is definitely doable and nice), so you will have to get a car / taxi to get to the center of Ubud. There is a free shuttle operated by the hotel which goes to the center 6 times a day, but if you want to have more flexibility, you will end up paying for a taxi.

The staff is pretty friendly and efficient, but sometimes a bit pushy to try to sell you day trips or "recommend" restaurants / taxi drivers. One last thing : don't buy your day trips at the hotel, they're twice the price of the ones in the center and they're the same...

After much searching and contacting endless hotels, resorts, homestays & villas decided on the Kori for a 5 night stay.
Booked direct with the Kori and asked for Deluxe room with rice paddy views. Got exactly what we asked for at the price quoted.
The room was amazing with the bathroom alone the size of your average room in a large hotel. Seperate shower & bath, large vanity and mirror, good lighting and a good sized cupboard to hang clothes.
The main area in the deluxe room is spacious and opens out onto a large private patio with table & chairs and a sunbed with a beautiful view across a very lush green valley and out to the rice paddies. You can hear running water from your patio all the time as a creek meanders past the hotel in the steep valley at the back between you and the rice paddies.
If you are lucky enough to get the upstairs deluxe rooms you get a magnificient wooden & thatched roof which gives the room an even larger feel and is NOT noisy if it rains.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and because i had mentioned it was my partners birthday while we were on holiday the hotel presented a magnificient birthday cake (at no cost) to my partner in the room with several staff singing happy birthday. This was a beautiful touch to a great 5 days spent at the Kori.
The only drawback we found was the lack of tea & coffee making facilities in the room as an early morning cuppa is a must when on holiday.
The breakfasts is a la carte and were very nice for a change from the all you can eat buffet where you normally over-indulge. You get a selection of 3 types of breakfasts and they don't mind mix and matching if one doesn't suit your taste. The restaurant has a great outlook over the pools and across to the rice paddies and with the gamelan music lightly playing in the background it was hard to leave breakfast some mornings.
The pools were very quiet as the resort is only small and we enjoyed several peaceful swims. The spa was freezing as is under a thatched roof and not very clean, so gave it a miss.
This resort is not an easy walk from Ubud centre but can be done if you really feel like it. Would take about 20-30 minutes. The hotel supplies free shuttles during the day and into early evening to and from Ubud but you can get a ride back from the centre of Ubud for no more than 30,000rp (If you haggle) later at night.
The Kori is also located right next to one of the best Spas in Ubud (Botanica) and you must book as they are so popular. Is worth the wait though as we found out. On the other side of the Kori is Mozaic Restaurant. Probably one of the best restaurants around but did not go ourselves as preferred to eat in Ubud centre most nights. Several people we talked to at Kori said it was one of the best meals they had eaten in Bali (but at a price).
Overall i would rate the Kori as a 9 out of 10 and would not hesitate to stay again when in Ubud.

My 17 year old daughter and I both declared this the best hotel we'd ever been in (but it was then outdone by our hotel in Lovina the next week). This hotel has fabulous grounds and the rooms all face private areas. Ours had a small pond and was surrounded on two sides by a beautiful stone wall. The room was dramatic and exotic. The a/c worked well. The only drawback was a slight musty smell and Gary the tiny lizard who lived in the bathroom. Sitting on the private patio was heavenly, as was the large soaking pool. The restaurant was great and the view from the restaurant of the two level pool fading off into rice paddies in the distance was fantastic. The hotel is about a 10 minute ride outside Ubud downtown, and the hotel runs a free shuttle once an hour. If you want to go to or from town off schedule, the charge is about 3 usd. There is a grocery about a 10 minute walk away that has an ATM and snacks. The breakfast at the hotel is one of the best I've had included with a hotel room.

We stayed at the Kori Ubud for 6 nights, this being our 1st time staying in the Ubud area although not the 1st time in Bali.
The hotel staff were exceptionally friendly and always happy to assist. The resort is located in a quieter part of Ubud, but within a 20 minute walk to the centre of Ubud. A number of good restaurants are located quite close to the Kori.
We were disappointed that our deluxe room, whilst advertised with a balcony was in fact a ground floor room which had a courtyard but no views except for the immediately surrounding tropical jungle. The room itself was spacious, the bed the largest we've slept in and the facilities clean and regularly maintained.
Restaurant was good, prompt, attentive service and food quality fine. Like other reviews, we found the spa was not clean and did not use it. Pool was ok but due to cooler weather, we only used it once.
In house massage and spa services are over-priced in comparison to nearby alternatives. Lack of power outlet for computer adjacent to desk meant that for charging, the computer had to be relocated to bathroom which was not convenient.

We wound up here by chance because the place we thought we had booked had no record of our reservation, so on very short notice I contacted Kori Ubud directly, and they responded immediately with a very good price.
We were picked up at the airport and transported to the hotel, and immediately upgraded to their best room (if I knew the trick I'd tell you!) I can't say what the regular rooms look like. All I can say is that this room was palatial! I mean, awesome! Most fantastic of all was the bathroom. Waxing poetic about a bathroom is not something I generally do, but this one had a floor to ceiling window, 20 feet wide, of the most spectacular tropical gardens I've ever seen. It was also totally private, and with privacy glass. Huge soaking tub, great fixtures etc. The bathroom was bigger than some hotel rooms. Okay, enough about the bathroom.
The grounds were beautiful. They are terraced, and the pool is on two levels, very dramatic and attractive. The entire hotel is wonderfully landscaped, with colorful and green tropical plants and koi ponds throughout.
The location of the hotel at first alarmed me, because it is on a main, busy, loud road. However, once you are inside the compound, you really aren't aware of that. The hotel is about a 30 minute walk to town, up and down a hill, but if you're not up for that, take the shuttle in, and you'll have no trouble getting back.
The hotel is right next to Mozaic, probably the best restaurant in Ubud. We ate there. It is pricey, but it is beautiful, and the food was the best we had in Bali. Also top notch service. Two doors down the other direction is the Botanical Spa, which I would recommend. $12.50 buys you 75 minutes of a lovely massage and a very peaceful, professional, tropical environment - a much better deal than you'd get at the hotel. There are also numerous other restaurants and galleries right in the immediate area, so it's not like the hotel is out in the middle of nowhere. (Ubud used to be a country village last time I visited 17 years ago; now it's a loud, bustling and crowded city and the development has sprawled out for miles).
Breakfasts were lovely on either one of the restaurant floors, overlooking the rice paddies. We had dinner at the restaurant once, which was just okay. Service was very attentive and friendly.
In terms of value, this was without question the best value I've ever had in the world. We stayed in a palatial suite, in a charming, beautiful hotel, for not much more than $100 a night. I'd recommend this place to anybody.

The Kori Ubud is a very special place, it has a very traditional feel to it - the location is amazing with views overlooking the rice patties and all the lush greenery that Ubud is renowned for.

The pool is nice and clean, there are only a couple of sun beds but we seemed to be the only ones using the pool, in fact - we hardly saw any other guests due to the private layout of all the rooms. We had a luxury villa which was very nice but could have been cleaner.

Breakfast is ok, but I highly recommend the traditional Indonesian dinner that was included in our deal, it was fantastic. Unfortunately some of the staff were not friendly, in particular the lady in the day spa and lady in restaurant. But I have to make a special mention to the gentleman that came to our room every night to to turn the bed back and place fresh flowers on the bed, he was such a lovely, friendly person.

Ubud town is a 5 min taxi ride or a nice walk and I would suggest eating at all the great restaurants in the town rather than at the hotel. Also, you must try Botannica Day Spa which is 1 minute walk to the left (when walking out on to street) from the Kori Ubud. The lady who runs this place was so beautiful and kind and the treatments/massages are the best I've ever had (and we had them every day in Bali) at a very cheap price.

The kori Ubud is a real Bali get away where you can relax and enjoy the spectacular surroundings.

  • Liked — the layout of the bathroom, lying in the bath overlooking the beautiful greenery
  • Disliked — Fridge wasn't working properly, tv channel options not great
