“We love Sayan Terrace!”
Reviewed March 28, 2012

We have stayed at Sayan Terrace five times over the past decade or so, usually for a week. The setting is absolutely gorgeous--maybe the best hill views on Bali. Staff are wonderful. There is a small pool. If you want a big pool for lap swimming, Taman Bebek next door will sell you a day pass. Sayan is doing some construction, on and off, so ask about that when making reservations. The rooms are aging a bit, but they are huge and clean. Many have great, huge verandas from which you can enjoy the view.

We adored our stay in this beautiful hotel... It wasnt our first trip and it certainly won't be the last.

Service is great, with a really friendly staff team. One evening we asked to hire a motorbike and were simply "lent" one, with no charge, another time we asked for a taxi- again a member of staff was on hand to drive us into town, and for less than £1.50

Breakfasts are served in your room, we enjoyed fruit, pancakes and Balinese coffee, all overlooking the Sayan ridge

By staying just a short taxi ride West of Central Ubud, the peaceful surroundings make it worthwile. The hotel rooms are actually located a several meters below the level of the road, which allow the noise to travel overhead, which is a bonus in an area already fairy quiet. One can venture down into the valley from here. Potential guests should be physically capable of navigating stone pathways and steps. We enjoyed it with a local guide (50k IDP).

My husband and I spent a month on Bali and stayed at several hotels. We found the Sayan Terrace near Ubud to be a lovely unique experience and a great value! If you are looking for a peaceful setting with a spectacular view of the Ayung River valley, this is the place. Our large marble floored veranda from room 106 opened up to a view of heavily forested palms, rice paddies and mountain tops in the background.

The room was large with AC (although we didn’t need it as much as other locations on Bali), tv, fridge marble-tiled bathroom and very comfortable bed. We always throw some over-the-door hanging hooks in our suitcase because they do come in handy as they did here. The pool was refreshing and clean. You will find most of your comforts of home here, plus daily meals delivered to your room and a view that few people ever experience!

Room Tip: Rm 106 is the huge lower level of a duplex next to the pool.

The hotel is located near Ubud, 10-15 minutes drive.
M personally I prefer Sayan area for the picturesque view, serenity and good location. In Ubud itself there are a lot of tourists.
The hotel situated almost on the same territory as Taman Bebek (that sometimes you can even get lost in which hotel you are) and has excellent view to the river valley.

it is true that the room itself isn't in the best of shapes
but everything worked including the wifi (not something i can say for much of the island)
and they tried their best to make it look pretty
i was exhausted (physically and mentally) when i arrived
and the view made it all worth it for me
skip the bathtub and the massage
and just sit on the balcony and soak in all that green

My wife and I spent 5 days at the hotel while touring central and eastern Bali with a driver and guide. The spacious rooms are marvelous and very romantic--each with a private terrace decorated with carved Balinese wall panels, comfortable chairs, an incredible view, with the distant roar of the river below, and a table at which to enjoy your complimentary breakfast. We enjoyed the food so much we ate several dinners on our room's terrace. The staff was exceptionalty friendly and helpful. Very quite and off the beaten path. I must admit that I hesitate to advertise it's charms because it is such a hidden gem.
Incidentally, our tour was provided by Putu with Jivan Tours. We very highly recommend his services.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a room with an unobstructed view.

The views from our private terrace were amazing, we always had the lovely little swimming pool all to ourselves, and the breakfasts were delish, brought to your veranda for no extra charge. The service was great - the staff helped us to book all the tourist activities we were interested in doing and recommended a really good cookery class. The room was romantic and nicely furnished, and they brought us a bowl of exotic fruits as a welcome gift. I loved the outside shower - it was bliss! We were so glad to be staying out of the centre of Ubud, which is noisy, touristy and hassly, and to retreat in the evenings to a nice quiet green place. Also, the price was very reasonable.
