“Tried to swindle me!”
Reviewed March 12, 2014

Great location, nice gardens. However, we booked through agoda for two people, 2 nights. Upon our arrival the front desk told us that we were only booked for 1 person, and told us we needed to pay extra. They insisted we pay cash, in addition to the credit card payment we had already made in advance. The room was $60 USD, and they rudely pushed us to give them $10 more per night. If the booking was somehow erroneous, I said, we would gladly check in to another hotel and just cancel the reservation. After two days of discussing the situation with various irate hotel staff, who all interrogated us about our booking, and hours of going over the details laboriously, they acted as if they were doing us a favor by letting two people stay in one room. Obviously, this did not make for a pleasant stay. Five hotel staff sneered, gossiped, and were blatantly sarcastic as well as condescending to us during the duration of our stay. This was completely unprofessional and ruined our stay in Ubud. This was an obvious attempt to extort unseeming tourists who were locked into this hotel by prepaid reservations, and when we wouldn't pay up (remember, we offered to just cancel the whole thing and move to a different hotel), they treated us contemptuously. Be careful, and BEWARE of swindling at Puri Saraswati.

This is a great hotel close enough to everything you could want to walk to in Ubud. The staff is very friendly at this traditional Balinese hotel. The price is great for what you get! The staff recommended the bike tour through Ubud which we decided to do and loved. They set everything up for us, it was so easy. We decided to stay one more night so they told us to leave our belongings in the room and they moved everything for us when were out on our excursion, we didn't have to worry about any of the logistics. The breakfast that was included was really good. The grounds of this hotel are very well manicured and a beautiful Golden Retriever who lives there was nice to visit which helped us miss our dog less on our long vacation. I highly recommend Puri Saraswati Bungalows!!!!

this place is in the Main Street however the rooms are set in the back so very quite from the hustle. the rooms are traditional style and are perfectly matched to the surrounds of this place, lush gardens and access to the temple & lotus pond we were lucky enough to have an upstairs room over looking both - room Gatotkaca

rooms are clean, lots of room in bathroom & big bed - good AC too.

has a great pool & is very clean & provides towels

breakfast was delicious particularly the French toast & banana pancake

5 min walk from markets & everything else u need.

I will stay here again on my next visit

This was a great find! Such character. We felt like a part of Ubud staying there. Beautiful offerings every morning outside of our door. Clean, comfortable and friendly staff. Good (free!) breakfast every morning. Excellent location!!!

We also used a private driver for 2 days to explore outside of Ubud named I Nyoman Suparta. He was truly wonderful. We left Bali knowing we had a friend there. Very reasonable and I highly recommend him. He even showed us a few "surprise" temples that we had not even included in our planned itinerary. His email is nym_freestyle@yahoo.com. Get out and explore. He showed us some amazing things and it was a private tour. So nice :)

This was a great trip. Thank you Puri Saraswati and to our wonderful driver and friend I Nyoman!

We returned a second time as it said on the net that the whole hotel and a major reno, was not the case, the cleaning standards left a lot to be desired, our room had feicies on the wall and it took three days to have it cleaned. On the good side this is a very central located hotel with the beautiful temple next door, this property is owned by the royal family and one member lives at the rear of the hotel, we met her on a couple of occasions, she was such a charming lady who's husband died the previous year. Next door you have the famous Café Lotus and the huge Lilly pond behind it.the hotel breakfast was quite dull with mainly eggs on offer, they cannot serve bacon etc due to the adjoining temple

Being on our honeymoon, we were wanting something a little special but Puru Saraswati did not hit the mark I'm afraid. We were in a small room up the back with two twin beds pushed together to make the double. In the room I had no access down the side of my bed unless I jumped over it was there was a couch butted up against it and no bedside table/lamp. Shower head had a mind of its own, our phone didn't work and we even saw a rat on the rafter in our room one evening. The staff on the service desk were never overly helpful but brekky staff were good. Brekky is okay at 8am but if you go later, the eggs/pancakes may be served cold (they were for us). Location is fantastic, room was cleaned well and the grounds are quite pretty, which are the saviours for the facility. I'm sure others have had lovely experiences there, but we were left with a feeling of disappointment.

We stayed at the Puri Saraswati in early January for seven nights with our two children. We had two rooms (the double room at the back) and it was perfect. The staff was very kind and we took advantage of a morning walk with one of them. The breakfasts were super and the rooms were clean, great air/con and had wonderful verandahs to enjoy time on. We are returning for another few nights at the end of the month. The location is in the heart of Ubud but the rooms are set back and very quiet (except for the roosters). We enjoyed being able to take walks out around town and coming back for a swim/meet up without having to take a shuttle or scooter. Lots of banks, restaurants, massage parlours nearby....The hotel can set up reasonable car rentals, drivers, etc and pick ups from the airport.

Room Tip: If you need two rooms, the large bungalow at the back has a shared outer door and then two bedrooms...
