Puri is way overpriced for what it is. Yes it is in the Palace grounds but the bathroom was dirty and smelled mouldy. It is very noisy as there is a dance on next door every night. The worst thing is to have to walk past the Royal dog, a beautiful labrador, that is kept chained up in a cage except for a brief walk each day. He looks so depressed, is flea ridden and sleeps on a hard stone floor that is wet most of the time. He needs a good bath, a bed to sleep on and to be free to run around. Sad state for a good family.

Room Tip: Get a room at the back and don't pay extra for it.

I last reviewed Puri Saraswati in 2008. I gave them the highest ratings at the time, my how four years changes things.

My wife, 3 children and I stayed in the same room as last time (the Kunti/Dharma twin rooms) and they were in pretty average shape. Cracked tiles, stained bed covers and generally run down. The staff at front desk were very pleasant, however a few staff seemed to really begrudge being at work the night we stayed.

A shame, because it really has beautiful gardens, wonderful location (it'd be hard to get more central, and there are performances every night only metres away at Lotus Pond) and a great vibe about the place. I do hope that with a bit of work, Puri comes back to the same standard we expected from last time.

Room Tip: Ask for one at the back, away from street noise, and less foot traffic out front.

We loved our stay at Puri Saraswati.
The location is amazing. Next to the lovely Lotus Pond and the beautiful temple.
And very central too, close to everything.
We would definitely love to come back to stay here again.
The staff was all very very friendly and kind and helpful.
There is even a little pool there and a diminutive spa.
The rooms are not the most luxurious, but they are absolutely ok compared to the price and the location.
It was a great experience staying there and we can hardly wait to go back!

Very dirty hotel, dead insects on the floor, dust everywhere, no clean sheets with (pubic!!!) hair and nobody of the frontdeskstaff cares. The only thing there intrerested in is where you going and if you need transportation or if they can book something for you. They only want to make money. Till now the only negative experience with a hotel in Bali.

Dirty dirty hotel, please don't go there!Pubic hair in the bed, blood on the pillow, dead insects on the floor ,dirty bathroom. When we changed rooms in the night (from superior to a "deluxe"room...very funny)they wanna charge us the costs for the deluxe room!!!and that room was as dirty as the other room.So we also ended up in a big big discussion about our bill!I'm a flight attendant and used to A LOT of hotels but this hotel was a big big shame for the Ubud area and Bali

On the plus side - location location location.Main Street Ubud gives you immediate access to the market, the palace, local dance, the Lotus and Luna cafes, Starbucks and great shops. This hotel is small enough to give you the chance to meet other guests - many of whom are long time regulars. It is very Balinese with a lovely garden. The swimming pool is clean and a very pleasant venue. Staff members are friendly and the food is good.
On the minus side - the reading lamps are not adequate and the wifi is very unreliable. Overall it is fantastic value and I wouldnt stay anywhere else in Ubud.

Room Tip: Choose a room near the back - much quieter. Bring a strong light bulb if you want to read in bed.
