we stayed for a week in March'11 and absolutely loved it. Everyone was so kind and generous and realy made us feel welcome. The rooms are well dimensioned and very nice. The place is an absolute oasis of serenity in the centre of busy Ubud. The gardens and the Temple right next door are well worth a visit. Cant wait to go back

Excellent accommodation in a lush surrounds. Though the bathrooms are tiny and a little tired-looking (there are obvious sign of wear and tear), the main bedrooms are excellent with huge, firm beds, generous windows and excellent mini wrap-around balconies to relax on or eat a meal.

Wifi—like many places in Ubud—is completely unreliable. There are days where it just didn't work at all, so don't choose this place is constant online connectivity is a must. That said, there is the evil empire of Starbucks next door that will give you one hour of reliable web access with every purchase.

Breakfast is included, and includes fruit salad, tea/coffee, choice of juice, choice of french toast or banana pancake, toast and eggs cooked to your preference. The pool is fantastic, kids really seemed to dig the place, and you can't beat this place for location. Close to shops, ATMs, taxis and convenience stores, but tucked well away so you can't hear the bustle.

Excellent choice for a small family getaway.

A group of us stayed here for a few night while travelling around Bali. The place is in a great location and it looks beautiful, when we arrived our bed was covered with insects and animal droppings. They cleaned it straight away but every evening when we returned it was the same, our friends got rooms but didn't have the same issue. The staff continuously hassled you about trips at breakfast time which was annoying , one morning they woke us at 5.30 to go on a field trip we never arranged. Ubud is a great place, the monkey forest is a must see and the white water rafting is great fun.

Great location in the middle of town. We really enjoyed the individual balconies which really show off the gorgeous landscaping. Saraswati has a friendly staff, good prices which include a real breakfast, and is next door to a beautiful temple.

I stay in all kinds of hotels, but like slick hotels like this one. I cannot understand any of the whiners about rooms, value, breakfast. My room had all marble floors, beautiful bathroom, beautiful and comfortable room, was so quiet, had good AC, a grand porch looking into the pretty garden, and the porch had a dining table and nice writing table, nice hanging lamps and in the eve a guy came to put out mosquito deterrents. Breakfast in the 3 days I was there was the best I had in 17 days in Indonesia. The staff is absolutely wonderful and cannot do enough to help your stay. Al the other guests I met (educated, traveled, sharp people) were so happy with the hotel, breakfast and the modest price. It is also next to (part of actually) the world's prettiest restaurant - the Lotus cafe in the middle of town. I terribly regret how overbuilt and crowded Ubud and Bali have become, but this hotel is a relief from the crowds and hassles.

Our driver from Kuta didn't know Ubud at all, and so despite me having a few hotels shortlisted we ended up at this one (he couldn't find the others). My sister not wanting to inconvenience the driver decided it would do (I would have kept looking). It wasn't bad, but for USD$60 a night I would have expected more. I have paid $20 a night for a similiar hotel in Bali. The grounds were pleasant and the buildings were quite traditional, but I wasn't that awe-inspired that I bothered taking any photos

Surprisingly the hotel was full and there was only one room on offer -- on the ground floor right next to reception and actually outside of the main hotel compound (perhaps an add-on). It had obviously been recently refurbished which was good (no mould in sight!). Air con & fan in room, big windows, fridge etc. Being so close to reception meant it was a bit noisy and lots of people coming and going - but there was a bit of a garden in front of our room giving a bit of privacy. The cleaners did open our room window and leave it open with all our stuff inside - so weren't all that happy about that. The Balinese are very honest, but it's still best to be security conscious (could always be an Aussie that breaks into your room!!). An American at our hotel also had her handbag snatched by a passing motorbike rider - Passport and all GONE! Very unusual -- but take care!

Breakfast was as many reviewers before have said - nice the first day....then go somewhere else! The staff were a bit "hovery" which made you want to just eat it and beat it. Very small pool area and only two sun beds by the pool, and so I never got to use one.

Location was quite central, but I would have preferred being on Monkey Forest Rd - where there are HEAPS of hotel options. Most of the hotels on Monkey Forest Road have very small frontages - which is why they are hard to find when driving by. The road is just bumper to bumper shops, restaurants, spas...with small entrances to hotels that are quite sprawling when you go out the back (many have rice paddy views). Best to look for them on foot!

It was an "okay" hotel -- but I just think that for the money you could get something much better.

We stayed here 14-16 September 2010. The location is excellent, convenient for walking through town for shopping or eating. The temple on the grounds was very impressive. It was well maintained and as large as many we saw in Bali. The swimming pool was clean and we enjoyed some relaxing time in and around the pool. As noted elsewhere, be prepared for a sales pitch from many of the staff from the moment you arrive. Breakfast is a popular selling time. They took "no thank you" well enough, and we felt our service did not suffer even though we turned down all of their sales pitches. We enjoyed the limited variety breakfast, with the banana pancakes our favorite. The room was comfortable, although room cleaning standards could be higher. The bed linens and towels are badly worn, damaged, discolored and in need of replacement. This was noted by several customer comments in the hotel's comment book as well. Perhaps hotel management reads the comments, but appear to have no interest in fixing this common complaint? A Starbuck's just opened almost next door, although we did not check it out. We took one of the hotel sponsored rice field walks one morning (booked at the front desk, not direct from the staff), walking directly from our hotel to the fields. The guide's English was not the best, but he did a fine job walking us along the paths for an enjoyable morning walk. We hired a car and driver through the hotel for a reasonable price, and were very happy with him. The car was relatively new, clean, and well air conditioned. Be aware the drivers receive a commission from places they take you shopping, but we were happy with all the places our driver selected for our purchases. This is the only place we have stayed in Ubud, so have no personal comparisons with other hotels. For the price (US$70 / night for deluxe, inclusive of tax, breakfast, etc.) it seemed a reasonable place and we enjoyed our stay.
