“Peaceful heavenly property close to the city center!”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

It is a little difficult to navigate your way to this heavenly small property in the heart of Bali. But once you are there, you will not feel like leaving. It is right there in the city center, and yet distant enough to keep you close to the country side. You are greeted by extremely sincere and smiling staff who are quite literally 'at your service'. Breakfast can be custom ordered and delivered to your room! You have a shuttle service at your disposal to take you to the city center and only a phone call away when you want a pick-up back. Evening tea is complimentary and again can selected from a variety of teas! Best of the best is the availability of cycles that you can pick up to cycle around the surrounding farms and go spotting the 'white hering birds'! Rooms are huge and spacious with private balconies that open into rice fields! Only thing to check is the possibility of some insects by virtue of being surrounded by farms. Leaving this aside...an absolutely heavenly property if ever you wish to stay in Ubud!

This place is nestled in a quiet corner of Ubud. City center is a bit far away but you have a free car pick up and drop facility available. The view from room (rice paddy fields) is beautiful. The choice of breakfast is limited but spread is filling. Rooms have an antique touch to it and are very comfortable. Staff are extremely hospitable. Cycles are available at reception - and there are beautiful stretches you can cycle up to. Will stay here again when visiting Ubud.

Somewhat of a rural location but just a 15 minute ride by taxi from the hotel to the centre of Ubud. The staff are very gracious and accommodating. Breakfast selection is extensive and portions are large. The setting/location backs onto rice fields and is very nice. Loved hearing the frogs, ducks and birds. Also, you can't get away from the constant call of the roosters, as this is the country side. No elevator here just stairs. Accessed massage three times, and while this was quite relaxing the standard of technique is not that high. One of the main roads to the hotel is under construction and this was annoying as it could be quite bumpy. Small motorcycles are plenty and in constant motion all over the roads so kudos to our various hotel shuttle drivers for managing to avoid collisions and keeping everyone safe. Before placing anything to the room safe, it is advisable to get a demonstration. The pool exists but not once did we see anyone in it. Our experience here was very positive.

My family and I wanted to spend some relaxing time away and it's exactly what we got at Junjungan. They will take care of all your needs and they do it with a smile. After getting off a late flight, we were hungry and needed a good meal. We randomly ordered 3 dishes and we were pleasantly surprised at the quality, so much so we decided we should just have all our dinners at the hotel instead of venturing out. Breakfast was excellent and filling, we even managed to skip lunch and make do with a tea break in the afternoon. All this for a reasonable price, probably cheaper than the tourist traps in Ubud town centre. They also serve free afternoon tea, a drink and a cake which was great as well.

The staff were always ready to recommend interesting things to do and solve your problems. We also made good use of the free shuttle services to go to the town centre, and they'll also gladly pick you up at any area in Ubud back to the hotel.

The room was clean and well maintained. Even though we didn't mention that a faucet was loose, they fixed it while we were out. Great rice padi field views, and we had 2 days where the rainbow showed up right at our balcony. Check out the photo.

All in all, exceptional value for money, brilliant service standards, if you're not too particular about being in the centre of town and you're not the kind to party late nights in Ubud, it's the place for you.

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of our honeymoon & fell in love with it. Its location is excellent - far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Ubud, in the heart of local life in the countryside but close enough to get into town when you want. They have free shuttles into Ubud at anytime of the day which is great. The staff could not do enough for you. We had been staying in Nusa Dua and this was a welcome break from all the tourist resorts. It definitely was authentic Bali to us. We stayed in a deluxe studio in the top floor and arrived to a congratulations cake and the love heart swan towels that we had seen in many far eastern hotel pictures but did not receive in our 5 star resort hotel. Needless to say we were chuffed to be welcomed with this. Shortly after settling into the room welcome drinks were sent to the room. We went for a walk around the local area and came back to a bunch of flowers also which was lovely. The view of the rice paddy fields was amazing and watching the sunset with Balinese music in the far distance being played over the paddy fields was a beautiful experience that we will never forget. The room was great, my wife anted a four poster bed and finally managed to get one here. The room as very spacious and the bathroom gorgeous. The hotel also have free access to bikes to explore the local surroundings. There is a nice Warung only meters away from the hotel that is idyllic to hang out in. You have to order breakfast the night before and give them an estimated time of arrival for this. With lots to choose from you will not be disappointed - try the fruit and muesli for a filling healthy treat to start the day, a welcome change from buffet style breakfasts. We did have to wake earlier than expected and being served breakfast at an earlier time was not an issue. We walked around the local area for some time one of the days and got to experience some Balinese local life. This was an idyllic stay and we didn't want to leave to go back to our resort. Would definitely recommend it to those who want to experience some authentic Balinese surroundings and serenity. We were sad to leave.

Room Tip: Book the Deluxe studio rooms on the top floor for an excellent view and spacious room

AWESOME! I spent eight days here in August-September 2013. Why so long? I couldn't leave! This is a small, quiet boutique hotel (only 10 bedrooms), beautifully constructed and about 3km out of hectic Ubud town centre. It's built over a stream so the air is constantly filled with the sound of running water. Huge butterflies and tiny birds flit through the hotel periodically, adding to the idyllic atmosphere. All the rooms overlook the rice paddies and at the time of year I was staying, these were a stunning, almost surreal green with a wall of jungle rising up beyond. Sitting on the balcony looking at this view was enough to send me into bliss immediately. If that didn't work, there was always the Bintang beer in the well-stocked minibar.

I occupied two different rooms during the course of my stay and both were exquisitely appointed, spacious and immaculately clean. If I had to choose the Deluxe Studio Room on the upper floor was probably the pick (for its high ceiling) but really you're spoilt either way. There's a small, very clean pool and bathing/lounge area. Be warned that if you lie there for 5 minutes someone will appear and force delicious ice tea on you. The spa area is really nicely done, with a pebble walk and curtained treatment rooms. I had two sessions both of which were excellent.

There's a recent-model iMac sitting in the reception area, free to use by any guest, on which I'm typing this review. Ah and free wi-fi throughout, to download Game of Thrones if you feel the need. Because I stayed so long, I was showered with free gifts, from a complementary hour-long massage to bottles of wine but I also heard various goodies being dispensed to other guests at different times so the principle of largesse seems to be hotel policy.

The 3km distance to Ubud means you have a 5-10 minute journey to get into various restaurants and as a spot for lunch or dinner, it's true that the Jungjungan restaurant can't quite equal the exceptional quality to be found at Ubud icons such as Casa Luna, Nomad or Indus, but the hotel offers a free shuttle service which I made extensive use and since I had a raft of restaurants I wanted to check out anyway, this didn't signify. The complementary breakfasts were excellent.

Overall I can't recommend Jungjungan Hotel & Spa highly enough. The joint is run with utter devotion by the lovely Siwi and her colleagues who were always on hand to attend to requests no matter how minor. I can't wait to come back!

This hotel is truly unique. Climbing the stairs to our room we were amazed to see a stream beneath our feet. Beautiful Bali decorations in our large bedrooms, comfortable four poster bed and massive bath. The standard of cleaning in the room was excellent, as was the warm welcome and service provided by all the staff. Although 3 km from Ubud a shuttle bus is available to take you in and fetch you back when you want so the distance doesn't matter. Loved the breakfast- especially the strawberry pancakes. Excellent value for money. Amazing service and would definitely recommend staying here.
