“New and Old”
Reviewed June 3, 2014

I stayed 1 night in Manggis Room, this is a new renovated room, room was spacious and clean. But in the down side, the bedsheet, blanket and towels looked old (although they were clean). There was a big gecko outside my bedroom wall, so for those who hate gecko, you may avoid Manggis Room number 2.

WiFi connection in the room was speedy and stable. Breakfast plenty and tasty. Location is near to Ubud center. Payment can be made in cash or credit card, but they charge you 3% if you pay via credit card.

In overall, this hotel offers great value and I would love to give them 5-stars rating if they renew the bedsheet, blanket and towels :)

Nice hotel, our room 2 is pretty new and for the price what we paid is perfect. Nice balcony and relaxing bright room. Everything within walking distance so well located hotel. We had great body scrub, massage room is nice, it was very good experience here. Breakfast has several packages, not too bad but nothing major to mention. Carpark is safe as just besides the lobby operating 24 hours. Wifi has full signal in our room and easy to video chat through skype.
Would defenitely come back again as it is worth for what we paid.

My fiancée and I stayed at Tunjung Mas Bungalow on the last leg of our Asia trip.

The hotel is a little ways away from the centre of Ubud (20-25 mins), but there are good restaurants and a grocery store nearby. We actually really liked the location. It's a couple buildings down from the Perama Bus Station, which was how we got in and out of Ubud (really nice to only walk a couple doors down after a 2 hour bus ride!). Perama buses are pretty run down, but a cheap and easy way to get from Legian/Kuta to Ubud.

The room was nice and clean. We only had 1 towel each for the room, but when the workers saw us at the pool, they gave us others to dry off. We had a standard room and it was just fine, simple, comfortable, and nice. A/C worked great. The grounds are lush and landscaped beautifully. We also got a free breakfast and you can pre-order it the night before with the time you'll arrive, and it will be there waiting! The watermelon juice was delicious.

Some minuses (but not deal breakers!): The rooms didn't have very many plug ins. In order to charge some of our electronics, we had to unplug the TV (but we didn't use the TV anyway). Also around dusk, there are a lot of gecko's lizards that hang on the walls outside of the room and building. This is due to the swarm of flies that are around the lights, so the foot-long lizards and geckos hang there to eat up.

However anywhere you go in Ubud is like that since it's so lush and tropical. The stores all had a ton of flies and geckos sticking around into the dark evening as well. Monkey forest is about a 10 minute walk away, and the town centre is about 20-25. Not too bad, but a bit of a hike for some, with all the cracked sidewalks in Ubud. I had a massage at the spa and a polish change for my nails. Cheap price, but an average massage and the polish change was only a few bucks less than a full manicure. I went for a yoga class at Yoga Barn, and it's so close to the hotel! Only a 5 minute walk away, and was it ever worth it! :)

Great place to stay and there's some great things to do nearby! Not right in the centre, but a great place to relax and chill.

Don't get me wrong - the whole country is a bit of "bring your own towel" experience. In that sense, Tunjung Mas is not an exception. Other than that the room, bath and toilet were very clean.
The staff is very friendly and helpful, the breakfast is plenty and tasty and the common areas are very nicely decorated. Btw, the watermelon juice was the best we've tried in Indonesia.
How you judge the location probably depends a lot on how you perceive distances - we are from Barcelona and for us 15 minutes walk to the centre means that the place is central ;)

Bottom line, we were very happy with our stay and we would come back.

We stayed here for 3 days. The good thing about this hotel is the room even the chepest one is very comfortable. The garden is beautiful and well maintained. Flowers on the doorsteps were impressive on how they paid so much attention to details. However the staffs are just there, no greeting, no giving any information about anything. Sometimes busy in front of the computer on their leisure when guests are around. The location is quite on the far end of ubud, you have to walk about 20 mins to the center. But around the hotel, there is a supermarket and nice restaurants.

But all these cons conpares to the quality of sleep we got. Its a good deal. We wouldnt stay here again but rather stay in central ubud with same rate or pay more to get better sevice.

We stayed here for 4 nights in a Deluxe Balcony Room, and we had mixed feelings about the place.

The PLUS points:

The room was clean, very spacious, with plenty of light, and had quite a good view.

The bathroom, which included a wardrobe, was equally spacious, and we even has a statue on the end of the bath!.

The landscaping of the gardens was very attractive and well-maintained, and the staff added fresh flower decorations along the way every day.

The pool area looked very attractive, but was very small.

Our room was quiet, especially at night, and no street noise, as the hotel is well set back from the road and all the rooms are behind the reception.

The location was quite useful, with lots of restaurants nearby plus a supermarket and a Circle-K, also a laundry which we used.

The MINUS points:

Although the staff were polite, they were not at all forthcoming about any information and not really very welcoming - seemed quite disinterested. The exception was a young man called Komang, who was much more friendly and helpful.

Not much encouragement for use of the shuttle bus.

Absolutely no attempt/offer to get us a taxi when we needed to move on to our next hotel.

The bedlinen and towels were changed every day but were really grey and stained. When we arrived our pillow-cases had obviously not been changed, although Komang came immediately after I had phoned reception.

There were quite a lot of ants and geckos in the room, which often happens in the tropics, but we were certainly not keen on the 2 very big 30-cm long lizards which seemed to live in the bathroom. They were a bit scary to see on the wall every time you went through the door.

The restaurant appeared to be open all day, but we didn't see anyone eating there beyond breakfast time.

The pre-ordered breakfast was as described on the menu, but was just so-so.

SUMMARY

So yes, we had mixed feelings, but it was good value for the rate that we paid.

This place could do so much better, with only a little effort required.

Stayed here for 4 days and found the staff very friendly and the grounds lovely except for the construction zone outside our room. Our air con was so bad that it was cooler outside. If you want towels you will need to ring for some. Clean room tho.
Would I come back here? NO
Would I recommend to friends? NO
It is central to most of Ubud.
