Second time staying in tegal sari and it never let me down. Nice view, clean and quiet. Has a shortcut to monkey forest street which gives another plus point. The staffs are as friendly as ever. However the swimming pool safety should be reviewed. And the breakfast has to be improved. Will recommend to any one who come to ubud.

Me and my bf family stayed at tegal sari for two nights in November. Overall it is a wonderful Expeience. The scene and view is undeniable good. The rooms are clean and unique as well (we stayed in super deluxe wooden room, wooden room & deluxe room). The staffs are very helpful and friendly.

However, there are still some space for improvement. The wifi connection is bad and weak. The air cond are not chilling enough. Hopefully more toiletries such as room slippers, shower cap, etc, can be provided. And also a better hairdryer.

Another more concerned issue is the safety issue of the swimming pool. The surrounding is too dark without enough lights at night. It is mentioned that the pool is opened for 24 hrs though. And also there is no gradient but a sudden increased depth inside the pool. There was a small girl who was nearly drowned as she went into the deep water zone from the shallow zone without any notice. At first nobody noticed it including the safety guard as it is too dark. Luckily at last my bf's sis managed to grabbed her and pull her to the shallow zone. I think this is the greatest thing needs to be improved.

Stayed here for two nights, services are good, staffs are friendly and helpful, the room is huge, with air-con.and hot water,i had a very comfortable staying experience here.most rooms close to ricefield,so you can have a good view of it,though that time i stayed was harvest season.they offer free transport within the town area, but if you want to go further more, then would be charged.they dont have free breakfast, but you can have it at their restaurants(should pay),you can even have it at your room, but i never tried. they have wifi, but during my staying can't work, very disappointed, becuase many budget homestay now in ubud do offer good quality wifi service for free.since the staffs there apologised for this sincerely,i dont mind to give Tegal Sari excellent rate,if they can offer free but simple breakfast again and offer good quality wifi service, then i will come again!

Room Tip: Some rooms can't view paddy fields,so should ask before booking

The rooms were huge, clean and appointed with all the basic necessities. If you look at the hotel website the photos are true to life not fiction. Given the hotel's physical layout and vegitation, the rooms are very private. Noise is also not an issue.

The food at the restuarant is good. They deliver breakfast to your room at no additional charge. This is a great feature since the patios and verandas are definitely places one wants to relax and drink in the charm. One morning while having breakfast they began harvesting rice from the field behind the hotel. It was a memorable glimpse inside true Balinese life.

The location is great. Right next to the monkey forest and a 10 minute easy walk into central Ubud.

My only advice is STAY HERE!

From our room on the first stock, we had a beautiful vieuw over the rice terraces and the garden. Good value, nice male staff, romantic small pool, breakfast not included!
We ate breakfast in the town.
You will need transport here ( we where here on motorbike coming from seminyak) as it is far out of town, but walkable.

Room Tip: For the vieuw and privacy, ask for the first floor.

This was our second stay at the Tegal Sari and it still has charm, but is showing the need for a facelift. The "Super Deluxe" rooms are misnamed, but they are very good value for money.
Like another reviewer, I got a stomach upset after eating at the restaurant. The menu is not very extensive, and the quality only fair. There are now plenty of reasonable restaurants outside on the main road and we enjoyed Pundi Pundi and Siam Sally. The taco place to the right of the hotel entrance serves delicious food.
Forget the Tegal Sari if you have a disability as the paths and steps would be difficult to negotiate.
The pool is smallish, but adequate.
Overall, I think the Tegal Sari is still value for money, but there is a widening range of choices in the area and next time we will try somewhere else.
