We have just moved south to Seminyak after three nights at the Chedi. I won't repeat what has already been said here before but what an awesome place. Such a wonderful, peaceful, happy place. The staff could not be smilies and more helpful. Our butler Bawa was super attentive and the early morning trip with him to the paddy fields and local villages was a fab experience. Oh a bargain wood carving to be had too... About three pounds Sterling for a large cat! The trips to ubud for supper were good too. Carlie the driver was helpful and funny on our various transfers. We loved afternoon tea and drank out own body weights during sundowner cocktail hour (free). The spa room was worth the money... Not least for the excellent 90 minute treatments included each day.

We have nothing but praise and would highly recommend the Chedi to everyone. James & Daniel

Room Tip: The spa room is the way forward. No need for a pool room as the hotel pool is huge and always quiet.

Having never stayed in a 5 star resort before and after endless hours of research we decided the spa villa at the Chedi Club would give us what we were looking for; luxury, pampering and peace and quiet - we got all that and a lot more! It took us a day or two to get used to having a personal butler, however getting used to luxury is easy and we wanted to take Japa (our butler) home with us! We had originally booked for 6 nights in the Spa Villa, however our holiday was for 9 nights and it didn't take us long to decide to stay on for the extra three nights. We did swap from the Spa Villa to the one bedroom suite and although still lovely not as gorgeous as the Spa Villa. We chose the Spa Villa as it included Spa treatments (in room which was fabulous) for 90 minutes each day. We never thought we would say this but 6 Spa treatments was enough....

All the staff at the Chedi can't do enough for you - from the Pool man who rushes over with two towels, water, sunscreen and cold face towels to the restaurant staff who quickly worked out that I liked the Moijto cocktails during the complimentary cocktail hour... The breakfasts are huge and filled us up for the day...and they have a very healthy option (egg white omelette with vegetables etc) the yoga was wonderful with gorgeous views and a lovely teacher...We also loved the complimentary rides into Ubud and were given a mobile to ring the hotel when we wanted to be collected, nice. Your personal butler tidies your room twice a day (ie in the evenings the blinds are drawn, mood lighting on, ice bucket filled etc etc). Simon, the hotel manager, is lovely and comes over and has nice chats with you and you certainly feel valued and listened to.

Wouldn't recommend this hotel if you wanted to party but if you want tranquility, excellent service, gorgeous surroundings, sound sleep and total relaxation it's worth the splurge and we will certainly return...

Room Tip: Spa Villa has the most beautiful bathroom I've ever seen

My husband and I have been dying for a holiday and our dear friend recommended The Chedi in Ubud. Not from the time of arrival will I back track for their superb service - it goes way back when I confirmed my booking one month before my arrival. Nuning was very efficient and helpful in customizing the itinerary of my stay from our yoga activities, to our spa treatments and our tours.
When the day of arrival came - we were welcomed by very courteous staff that handed us cool cold towels and mineral water. As we were driving to the hotel from the airport, our driver was friendly to give us a little of Ubud 101 as we listened to the personal compilation or relaxation music by The Chedi Tanah Gajah ( unfortunately, they do not sell copies of their beautifully compiled selections ). With just that moment, my husband I started to let go of all our worries, stress and tuned in to spa mode that instant. When we reached the entrance of the hotel - it was immense, lush and beautiful! Dharma our personal butler greeted us and drove us by golf court to the reception area for health, fresh, thirst quenching cold ginger and lemon grass tea with savory fried spring rolls. Finally I got to meet Nuning in person and finalized our itinerary for 6 days. And what more hospitality when the GM Mr. Simon personally goes out of his way to meet us and have a small chat.
As we were escorted to our room - it was beautiful, modern yet balinese inspired with high end , endless mini bar refill including laundry everyday for the entire stay!
The whole place constitutes 20 villas, they have beautiful nooks and ponds, views of the rice fields where you can meditate and relax. I forgot to mention that the package includes free daily afternoon tea and cocktails - who can ever beat that? Food is superb. The spa treatments take you straight to eternal bliss and yoga in the morning with twin is always the best way to start your morning right.
Our stay seemed long but we could not get enough of the high of how we enjoyed the hospitality, the serenity, the fresh air, the warmth of the people in Ubud, the lush greenery everywhere, their culture and most of all their sumptuous healthy food and sinful ones too like krupuk, crispy duck and suckling roasted pig . Cant wait to go back for another fabulous bespoke getaway.

It is as lovely as everyone writes. Very relaxing and super quiet. Our private villa with plunge pool was amazing. opening the gates at the end of the plunge pool revealed rice paddies) Our butler Sutama was excellent, helpful and friendly but not in our way. Restaurant is very nice. We often had afternoon tea on the table and day bed area beside our private pool. Loved having a sepereate room for a mini kitchen with a coffee making machine and large fridge. Semi outdoor bath very romantic, complete with candles etc.

Great boutique style resort yet with very high standards. Goes slightly above the expected on nearly every level, would recommend to anyone (unless you're keen to party)

The word great is generally overused, but not in this case. If you want to relax, this is the place to be in Ubud. The best part about this place is the genuinely cordial service. The way they do it makes it feel very specialized and personal. The attention to detail to ensure that you have a great stay is almost scary. For example: during the day, the TV would be facing the couch and the remotes would be on the coffee table. When I return in the evening, the TV would be turned to face the bed, and the remotes would be on the night stand, with my slippers by my bedside. Everything about this place oozes luxury and pampering, starting from the complimentary snack and drink upon arrival to the complimentary minibar and flasks of whiskey and vodka, the yoga class, the pool etc. This place is as close one can get as possible to feeling like royalty in Ubud. Another thing I liked was the bathroom, which was partially open air but did not compromise privacy at all. This felt very liberating. Breakfast at the restaurant was awesome; having it right next to rice paddies enjoying the scenery made it hard for me to leave everyday. Other meals from the restaurant met the standard one would expect from a place like this. Booking trips through the hotel was a breeze, I just had to ask my butler. The prices are more than what one would pay by booking elsewhere in Ubud, but its well worth it. The drivers at Chedi are courteous, safe and well informed and thus make your journey anywhere as pleasant as possible.
Two (minor)downsides: 1) Location could be better. This place is kind of out of the way, so one has to rely on the complimentary shuttle (which is more like a personal taxi with your own driver). Its free only until 6PM, which I think is a little early. After 6PM one has to pay for it. But this is not a deal breaker at all! Also this place is far from the beach and an active night-life scene. But if you are staying in Ubud, particularly at the Chedi club, you are probably not looking for those things. In fact, you might not feel like leaving the place at all.
2) I don't think the blinds in my suite afforded me enough privacy, specially at night with the lights on, one could easily see through the gap between the blinds and the windows. But that's a very minor complaint.

I highly recommend this place.

From the moment we were picked up by The Chedi driver to take us to Ubud we just knew there was going to be something special about this trip. He was informative and helpful and upon arrival at the resort we were simply taken aback with its outstanding beauty. The website as wonderful as it is does not reflect how truly spectacular this place really is. A sanctuary set amongst what was once a private estate, there are 20 villas dotted about and linked effortlessly by lillypad ponds, elephant statues, reading and relaxing areas, an aviary, many beautiful features that keep you drawn to understanding that this was once owned by Indonesia’s biggest art collector and whom has kept many of his fantastic pieces still on display today at The Chedi.

On learning about the previous owner (Hendra Hadiprana) our very own butler (seriously..) was providing us with a guided tour of the property when he slipped in nonchalantly that we had been upgraded to the largest villa on site - we were shell-shocked – what an amazing and kind gesture! I had informed the hotel that this was a very special trip to celebrate our 1st Wedding Anniversary but I had never expected a treat like this was to be in store for us.
The Hadiprana House sits overlooking the rest of the grounds and is 550sqm so in other words...huge! It has been tastefully decorated with Indonesian and Balinese influences, comes with 2 huge sprawling bedrooms, 2 bathrooms with 7 showers....inside and out, living areas, kitchen, large swimming pool, outdoor ponds and private gardens and side access to the aviary and nearby restaurant are all a stone’s throw away. It truly was tremendous in every sense of the word! We loved all the little touches that the house included – ipod fully loaded with classic songs (and lucky for us, the first dance at our wedding).

Every day we were given afternoon tea complete with small treats followed then by cocktail hour again with more treats, all of which are complimentary! Not to forget that the house (and I believe this is for all villas at The Chedi) comes with a well stocked and well replenished mini-bar of spirits, Bintang and soft drinks. We were also fortunate enough to have snacks provide with ours.

Darma was our private butler and was a true gentleman. I miss him now with my afternoon tea...! He was quiet but in a polite and pleasant way. Always helpful, he was one step ahead at all times arranging and making suggestions for us. He would make up the room and turn it down without any ask and was an expert at making you feel relaxed whilst he still did his job. Should you ever require him you simply call #1 and a friendly voice would greet us with our names. Any request would be met with very promptly. Darma took us on our wedding anniversary for a trek through the properties rice paddies which are vibrant green against a clear blue sky (if you’ve seen Eat, Pray, Love then it’s exactly like that) and which finished by walking through his local village. We didn’t ever want to leave Hadiprana House but for this short 1hr trip it was worth it to really see what real life Bali is about. That day was very special for us and Darma and the staff at The Chedi really were exceptional. We were brought a celebration cake to enjoy and at night, a romantic meal was set-up alone especially for us dotted with candle lights. I had asked for this in the rice paddies but bad weather set-in but Darma was to the rescue and moved everything to the nearby Bird Lounge (just next door to our house) which was beautiful as thunder crashed above and lightning lit-up the place. The food was.....outstanding! We ate beautiful local dishes including crackling pork belly which was delicious. It really should be Michelin starred.

We also enjoyed a spa treatment that day which was mindblowing as we both looked over the rice paddies and watched local farmers at their work whilst listening to the beautiful tropical birds above. The spa was serene and relaxing, again a memorable experience of top class service from the staff.

The Chedi now means so much to us and is synonymous with luxury, elegance, peace and beauty all of which worked perfectly with such kind and friendly staff. You had a feeling that everyone knew your name, knew that this was a special trip for you and made you wish to never leave. It’s almost only worth going for such a special occasion as it felt that it would otherwise be ruined on ‘just another holiday’. And for us to know we celebrated our 1st year of marriage there was truly unforgettable.

As it was time to leave, we had one last walk around and went to depart to the sound of bird song and the Baliense drums in the background. The manager (very friendly) met with us and gave us a parting gift of rice from the local paddy which we thought was a kind touch. We thanked him for our upgrade and every inch of the hospitality and quality of produce and service we had experienced, it really did mean so much to us.

The Chedi felt like home and it was a trip that we will never ever forget...

Room Tip: Hadiprana House if you can stretch to it!!!
