When we booked the Chedi Club, we had no idea of what else to expect than a very nice hotel. But upon arrival, we soon found out that 'very nice' would turn out to be the understatement if the year.

Stefan Noll, the manager, personally welcomed us and introduced us to Juni, our private butler who would do anything to make our stay as pleasant as possible. While we stayed in the most modest class of accommodation, the one bedroom suite, we were blown away by the space and the attention to service and detail. An amply stuffed complimentary minibar, complimentary laundry service, afternoon tea wherever on the premises you like, cocktail hour, simply amazing. And the wonderfully attentive service of the entire team. Greeting us by name, taking every opportunity to talk to us and making sure our stay would be unforgettable and so it has turned out. The restaurant staff who gave us a great taste of Bali and who all came out to personally say goodbye when we left, the most friendly and professional spa team, words fall short to describe how special they made us feel throughout our stay.

But the most extraordinary asset of the hotel, undoubtedly, are the amazingly beautiful premises just a feast to walk around; and surrounded by these amazing rice fields with hardworking people greeting you just as friendly as if they were working in the hotel. The rice paddy trek with our butler Juni was, no doubt, one of the highlights of our stay... Meeting the purity of the island while chatting with a friendly and knowledgeable guide. All just amazing. A great big thank you to everyone at the Chedi Club at Tanah Gajah.

My husband and I have just returned home from a memorable 12 night stay at this amazing hotel.
It is a stunning oasis of 20 private villas in beautiful tropical gardens surrounded by rice paddie fields which exudes peace and tranquility.A perfect place to relax and unwind and forget about everything.
The GM Stefan and his staff are friendly, helpful and efficient with out being intrusive. They all have an astounding ability to remember your name and where you have been or are going too that day.
Our butler Winda was brilliant a real little gem, he was always on hand to give us advice on trips, restaurants, local culture etc etc. He took us on an early morning informative tour of the surronding rice paddie fields and villages, which I would highly recommend.
The accomodation is impressive, very spacious and the attention to detail is extraordinary.
The food was first class, the friendly chef was always willing to do different dishes for us aside from the main menu and his food was beautifully presented and delicious. It was surreal having breakfast looking out at the farmers working in the rice paddie fields which wrapped around the restaurant on all sides like a lush green blanket.
It would be hard to beat the ambiance created for cocktails and dinner in the evening, which is a serene mixture of soft lights with a cabaret of fire flies, bats and subtle frog sounds emminating from the paddie fields. This coupled with exquisite food and excellent service made for perfect evenings.
We have had such fantastic holiday and we both cannot recommend this hotel enough and we would definately go back there.

We stayed in a pool villa for 6 nights and loved the gorgeous rice paddies surrounding the villa. We really enjoyed the bells and chimes, which could be heard walking around the property. This was a very peaceful place to stay, not a lot to do, just serenity.

The service into Ubud ends at 6:00 PM, so it's necessary to take a taxi back to the property if you go into Ubud for the evening. Finding a car was never a problem, it's just the bargaining at the end of the night, which can be a bit of a hassle. However, this is a less expensive option than taking the car service the hotel offers at the end of the night.

Also, the pillows on our bed were like large bricks so our sleep quality wasn't the best. However, we loved everything else about the room.

All in all, a peaceful, beautiful property which provided some of the best memories and expriences on our trip in Bali.

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of a two week honeymoon to Hong Kong and Bali, and it was the most fantastic end to a wonderful trip. We stayed in one of the 'regular' villas although there was little 'regular' about it - the interior design is beautifully modern and yet still full of Indonesian touches, the outdoor bathroom is amazing (great outdoor bathtub!), the free mini bar is topped up daily, and last but not least, you have your own butler, which sounds a bit poncy and potentially quite intrusive, but our's (Agus) was an absolute gentleman - discrete, friendly and very helpful. He looked after us superbly and took us on a wonderful walk through the paddy fields and local village, which was so much more than a 'tour guide trip' by an outsider as he is from Ubud, which made all the difference.
The restaurant is also amazing and caters fantastically for Coeliacs - when you first arrive, your butler checks if you have any special dietary requirements. Once I'd advised I needed gluten-free, every menu was adapted for me and an entire bakery basket of gluten-free toast and pastries was given to me each breakfast. The best gluten-free service I have ever had.
We can't recommend the Chedi enough.

We stayed here for three nights in February 2011. This was our last stop in Bali before flying home to the states, and we only wish we came here first. It was so peaceful and relaxing it would have been a great place to start and get caught up on rest.
The property is outside of Ubud enough to need a ride into the city, but it's worth it. The villa was wonderful, the pool great, and services top-notch. We loved the daily complimentary tea time with local snacks, followed by complimentary happy hour, followed by great dinner in the restaurant. We didn't take advantage of the spa services because there are so many great options in Ubud for much less money. The spas will even pick you up at your hotel and drop you back off.
There was wifi in the public areas only, which was a little disappointing. It did make us leave the villa, though!
Each villa has a complimentary minibar and liquor cabinet that I dare anyone to try to get through it. There was gin, vodka, and one other [rum? maybe scotch?] in decanters! Plus beer, wine, and sodas. They also keep casava chips and cashews stocked in the rooms. The on-site manager was very attentive, and the food in the restaurant overlooking the rice fields was great. We were there during the rice harvest and it was fun to watch how it is done and what the change in the landscape happens in a few short days. I suspect it would have been less beautiful if we had arrived a few weeks later and the rice was completely harvested.
The last night we were there they had a suckling pig special dinner. We got to watch the pig preparation during the daytime, and although i wish there would have been more to eat that meal, it was delicious.
Our butler, Winda, was great giving us ideas to site-see and tips about how much to tip, spend, and what is expected when bargaining.
We loved this place and would come back in an instant.

This hotel is awesome in every way. Every effort is made to make your time here perfect. The pool villa rooms are gorgeous, with views out to rice paddies. The rooms have free mini bar which is continually topped up by your very own butler, whom makes sure your stay is everything you hoped and imagined. The Three nights we spent there sure were. Afternoon tea was lovely and snacks were topped up without having to ask, cocktail hour had great service, not even having ti ask for drinks they would automatically top up your glass. The butler handles everything. we would definitely go back.

I have read almost all the reviews about the Chedi and I only found one that wasn't good. I can only imagine that that one bad reviewer must be someone that is impossible to please. Our experience of the Chedi was one of utter joy! Surjana out butler attentive as were all the staff. I won't go on and on about all the good things because just about every review here does and I can only say more of the same! If you want a special experience in Bali this is the place to have it....

Room Tip: Pool Villa is definitely worth the extra.
