We stayed here for three nights in February 2011. This was our last stop in Bali before flying home to the states, and we only wish we came here first. It was so peaceful and relaxing it would have been a great place to start and get caught up on rest.
The property is outside of Ubud enough to need a ride into the city, but it's worth it. The villa was wonderful, the pool great, and services top-notch. We loved the daily complimentary tea time with local snacks, followed by complimentary happy hour, followed by great dinner in the restaurant. We didn't take advantage of the spa services because there are so many great options in Ubud for much less money. The spas will even pick you up at your hotel and drop you back off.
There was wifi in the public areas only, which was a little disappointing. It did make us leave the villa, though!
Each villa has a complimentary minibar and liquor cabinet that I dare anyone to try to get through it. There was gin, vodka, and one other [rum? maybe scotch?] in decanters! Plus beer, wine, and sodas. They also keep casava chips and cashews stocked in the rooms. The on-site manager was very attentive, and the food in the restaurant overlooking the rice fields was great. We were there during the rice harvest and it was fun to watch how it is done and what the change in the landscape happens in a few short days. I suspect it would have been less beautiful if we had arrived a few weeks later and the rice was completely harvested.
The last night we were there they had a suckling pig special dinner. We got to watch the pig preparation during the daytime, and although i wish there would have been more to eat that meal, it was delicious.
Our butler, Winda, was great giving us ideas to site-see and tips about how much to tip, spend, and what is expected when bargaining.
We loved this place and would come back in an instant.

This hotel is awesome in every way. Every effort is made to make your time here perfect. The pool villa rooms are gorgeous, with views out to rice paddies. The rooms have free mini bar which is continually topped up by your very own butler, whom makes sure your stay is everything you hoped and imagined. The Three nights we spent there sure were. Afternoon tea was lovely and snacks were topped up without having to ask, cocktail hour had great service, not even having ti ask for drinks they would automatically top up your glass. The butler handles everything. we would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Pool villa

I have read almost all the reviews about the Chedi and I only found one that wasn't good. I can only imagine that that one bad reviewer must be someone that is impossible to please. Our experience of the Chedi was one of utter joy! Surjana out butler attentive as were all the staff. I won't go on and on about all the good things because just about every review here does and I can only say more of the same! If you want a special experience in Bali this is the place to have it....

Room Tip: Pool Villa is definitely worth the extra.

We stayed at The Chedi for 4 nights during a two week tour of Indonesia. It was our first time to this part of the world and had very much relied on the recommendations of our agent with accomodation and locations. We were not disappointed at all with The Chedi Club. It's location on the edge of the paddy fields was truly magical: sitting at breakfast watching the local farmers in the fields was magical, even the farmer who simply took off all his clothes for a 'sit' in the irrigation ditch! ( don't worry it wasn' t that close!). The proximity to Ubud was also excellent ( with free transport on request) with the many shops and restuarants, the former which we enjoyed, the latter which we did not partake of, purely because of the excellent food at The Chedi. The service was excellent throughout the hotel. Our personal butler Winda was a star and extremely helpful throughout our stay. All over the resort service was second to none, with lots of smiles and willingness to engage in conversations. The grounds were impeccable and the elephant statues a delight! Our room was beautiful and the free laundry service and mini bar extremely useful and a great touch.
We did 2 day trips which had been organised via our agent and both were excellent allowing us to experience some of the cultural delights and every day sights and sounds of Bali. Although some of the 'roads' were less than smooth going, they did not detract from some of the magical sites, particularly Lake Batur and the volcano.
We also paid for the Indonesian cultural evening watching the Chaka dancing followed by the Indonesia meal. Both were fantastic and not to be missed.
The food was outstanding and the chef extremely friendly and willing to share his knowledge. WE know we could have eaten a lot more cheaply but it was hard to draw ourselves away from the resort after trips out or a day relaxing by the pool.
The spa was also a joy and left both myself and my husband completely relaxed and destressed! We will definitely return and recommend this hotel without reservation, and we are not easily pleased!

I have little experience of travel outside Europe. Relatively disappointing trips to Egypt and Mauritius in recent years had left me sceptical about travelling beyond the many great destinations in Europe, most of which can be reached from between two to four hours from the UK. However, a trip to Bali, on the recommendation of my more-widely-travelled girlfriend, and the Chedi Club, has gone a long way towards convincing me that it really can be worth enduring what turned out to be a 24-hour door-to-door journey from London.

The Chedi Club is an oasis of tasteful and understated single-story buildings set amidst beautiful, immaculately maintained, tropical gardens. The property is bordered by working rice-paddies, providing a fascinating scenic backdrop. This is a place which exudes luxury and tranquillity.

The hotel’s standard apartments looked to be a very generous size, but by booking early we received an upgrade to a pool-villa. As well as being blissfully private, the villas are exceptionally spacious and well equipped. Their private pools are obviously not huge, but they are certainly big enough for a swim. We both agreed that this was easily the most impressive holiday accommodation either of us had experienced.

If your idea of a good holiday is making new friends by the pool and partying until the early hours, look elsewhere. The Chedi Club excels at peace and serenity. It’s a place to relax, unwind and forget about the pressures of everyday life back home.

When you are ready to tear yourself away, the hotel’s complimentary car service to and from Ubud, with its many shops, galleries and restaurants, is an invaluable perk. Other very welcome perks include complimentary evening cocktails, free mini-bar, a laundry service, use of a gym, free yoga classes and numerous others.

The Chedi’s staff and management couldn’t be faulted – always friendly, always helpful, unfailingly efficient. As someone uncomfortable with over-intrusive service, I was dubious about the promised ‘personal butler’. However, the term ‘butler’ turned out to be slightly misleading. What we had in reality was a designated member of staff who was always on-hand to help and advise if we needed him, but without ever being intrusive.

The hotel’s restaurant is a highlight, opening on all sides to the adjacent rice paddies. The Chedi’s chef clearly takes a lot of pride in his work. As my girlfriend doesn’t eat meat or fish, she was pleased to find that he was more than happy to make interesting and varied vegetarian dishes for her. Breakfasts also deserve a special mention for excellent choice and quality. One (slight) criticism would be that the prices for evening meals seemed quite expensive when compared to Ubud’s numerous restaurants.

Our only real concern about this otherwise virtually faultless hotel relates to the presence of caged-birds in the hotel grounds, some of which are kept alone in quite small cages. There can be no doubt that the birds are well-fed and in good condition (and some are housed together in proper aviaries.) However, you only had to pay some of the solitary birds a little attention to see what incredibly smart and social-animals they are, and how much they crave attention and interaction. The hotel manager, Stefan, helpfully explained that he is trying to address this issue (which had apparently been mentioned by other guests) with the hotel’s owner. We very much hope that, in time, all of the birds will at least be re-housed in proper aviaries where they can fly and interact with one another. Then, the Chedi will be just about perfect.

Overall then, reservations about the birds noted, this is a truly excellent hotel which provides an ideal base from which to experience the delights of Bali.
