I have travelled widely for business and pleasure and, though it is very right this headline saddens me. Im not normlly this negative about something so nice.
We stayed at the Mansions as part of a Deal. Our room may have reflcted this. It was a large open-plan with no walls between shower toilet and sleeping area. Might suit honeymooners but i doubt it. Might suit locals but I'm not Balinese. On reflection, I dont know why i didnt ask for a move, We coped. And it was convenient to pool, office and spa.
The package included breakfasts (adequate though, sadly, the fresh fruit often ran out), daily spa treatments (they were excellent) and one dinner. That it was only one was a blessing since it encouraged us to visit some of the island's justifiably famous eating houses.
Thanks to their non-existent systems, they tried to charge us for the free dinner. and, thanks to that, I eventually got to meet the mamager, a charming though low profile, young Frenchman, Elie Gaborit, who sorted it all.
As I told him, this could be a great place (and others have said so in this forum) but I wouldn't stay there again without being sure some things had changed and only after making a few very specific demands.
By the way, the duck they tried to charge me for was temptingly described in the menu but should have been called burnt-black, small, inedible duck-shaped thing with vegetrables. Not recommended!
The art was interesting though it appears that every space has to be crammed with everything they own - whether good or bad. Some is locked up but aparently can be viewed on request though you are not told this. The large dedicated display hall happened to be open for cleaning so we walked in, There is very little commentary about the works and what there is is typed so small that it's difficult to read. Needs a good curator.
The free shuttle bus is a good idea but on two occasions we were left waiting for an hour and once shared a taxi with other waiting guests. Ma'af', ma'afs (sorry) all round of course.
Lastly, aside from some communication problems (my Bahasa is as limited as is the english of some front-line people), the staff were unfailingly courteous, charming, polite, helpful and empathetic. And the gardens are beautifully maintained.
I will no doubt turn the experience into entertaining dinner conversation for friends and we are not scarred for life but I had to warn you. If you stay there make sure that everyone is aware of your expectations and don't hesitate to complain till someone does something to placate you. Start at the top. That works.

Room Tip: Demand to see it before your baggage is taken there. There are various grades of accommodation and w...

Spend 3 days here as part of a two centre package. Hotel mind blowing an assult on your senses. Loved it. If you want the sterile Sheraton this is not for you. True Balanese style abounds. The staff were excellent. Rooms large clean and comfortable. Pools and gardens beautiful. A bit out of town but enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the resort .

We loved it here, the grounds are amazing and the staff helpful. The food was ok, a bit pricey for Bali and i wasn't so much a fan of some of the food. We were very happy with our stay here and would recommend this to friends. Thanks for the villa by the pool, it was perfect and we loved it. thanks we will come again here.

The Mansion was a step back to a time of old world charm and grandeur. Our room was huge, as was the adjoining en suite parlour. Grounds were immaculate and well kept. Security was excellent and the staff were always friendly. The pools were fabulous - tried them all. Manager Elie was friendly and polite and we enjoyed our time with the artist in residence, Hai Dai.
Breakfast were very good. Shuttles into Ubud were good.
Great surroundings. If you want something different, this is it.

Room Tip: Loved our room - Ginger Wood.

Our great impression of The Mansion began on arrival when we were given a refreshing drink and invited to sit comfortably while filling out the registration forms, and then when we were escorted to our room to find fresh fruit and scattered flower heads awaiting us. The grounds are lovely, with many pools and artifacts to catch attention. Staff very courteous and friendly. Only used the restaurant for the (included) breakfast, which was fine. Bar and snack food prices reasonable.

WiFi is patchy, but after a day of relaxation the WiFi seemed less necessary!

The main building at The Mansion is reminiscent of an old colonial palace. The setting and gardens are gorgeous with a variety of rooms spread across the grounds. There seem to be pools everywhere and it is not hard to find some privacy if you wish. Great breakfast around the pool. The rooms are lovely, clean and beds and pillows extremely comfortable. Some of the rooms have problems with the aircon so you will need to check this. Staff were very pleasant and obliging. The spa was excellent and I had the best massage ever there. It is about a 10min drive from Ubud and shuttle services operate regularly. We stayed on a special deal so it was a bargain. I would happily return for a holiday.

Room Tip: Check that you have efficient aircon in your room

Beautiful Balinese style palace resort, many pool areas in picture perfect Balinese jungle setting , rooms are roman inspired with touch of Balinese and very helpful and friendly service. Very quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Perfect place to finish. Definitely stay again. Only draw back is bit far from main town but if you want to get away it's perfect. Free shuttle bus runs all day so that's easy enough. Beautiful setting for weddings or just relaxing in a beautiful place.
