I'm a foodie, out and out. I travel to experience local food, and have eaten from Michelin starred fine dining to back alley all over Asia, SE Asia and US. I have to say upfront, this was one of the top 5 meals ever. Big praise and well deserved. Ubud has had significant growth in its food scene over the last five years, and Locavore represents a new type of pride and discovery of the authentic regional food of Bali and Indonesia more broadly.
Locavore does everything well. From the aesthetics, to staff training and servie, to regional ingredient curation, to the execution of the food, it is seamless and thoughtful, and playful too. Vegetarians are well catered for, not just a side gesture, as are omnivores, and the degustations are both excellent. Locavore delivers far greater value than the price, both in the extras they give, and in the overall experience. This is food that delights you, and even where there are new elements to explore, they are well explained and you feel you are on the journey of discovery with the chefs, not locked out by a lack of insider knowledge as is common at some of the more challenging fine dining i've experienced.
Flavours were perfect, textures perfect, quantity generous across the suite but just enough at each course. For those on an AU or US dollar, the price for the degustation plus matched drinks is unbelievable. And did I mention the excellent cocktail list and matched cocktail service that was both highly innovative and tasty.
A memorable experience that I am planning to revisit as soon as possible. Book early as it takes a while to get a table, so definatly do it in advance.
