“One the best meals in Ubud”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 4, 2013

We have been meaning to go here for almost two months and finally did so today - why did we wait so long!! I am constantly bemoaning that there is nowhere to go in Ubud to get a really lovely salad and little did I know if was simply just around the corner from us at Payogan. You cannot miss it as it is just up the road from Bintang supermarket on the right hand side travelling norh. Drive down the driveway and there is parking available.

This is not some brand new sterile place, it has been put together with love and thought and the ambience is lovely - not to mention the beautiful view and cooling breeze. We had the Laksa and the Vietnamese salad and they were both absolutely gorgeous with such lovely subtle flavours that we will be hard pressed to limit our visits to one or twice a week. Glad to see that they have takeaway though as that will also come in handy.

This is a must to try whether you are visiting Ubud or live here and we will return.

“great food and atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2013

Awesome food and breakfasts (big time). Juices are also delicious. The staff was friendly and overall, a great experience. It's nice to get out of the center of Ubud and mellow out with a beautiful view.
Highly recommended!

“My New Ubud Fav”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2013 via mobile

We just finished one of the best meals I have ever had in Ubud!
The Elephant serves extraordinarily delicious vegetarian food that will please everybody, we had the antipasto plate (yum) pad Thai (double yum) and Vietnamese salad, full of fresh herbs and did I mention Yummmmmmm x3
We finished with sticky rice and mango and chocolate brownie with ice cream, everything was homemade from scratch and the entire experience was fantastic. Throw in friendly staff and a view to die for, you simply can't go wrong at "The Elephant", and just like an elephant it won't be easily forgotten.
Can't wait to come back!

“A very welcome addition to a vibrant restaurant scene”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2013

The Elephant has been open now for a couple of months on the west side of Ubud and has quickly developed a regular, enthusiastic clientele, including me! The team is developing a solid repertoire of international vegetarian recipes -- from Pad Thai to Gnocchi with brown butter, crispy almonds and sage -- that are tasty, satisfying and nicely presented. Overall, I'd describe this as principled food (local, lots of organic) prepared by and for people who really care about good food. It is not pretentious -- no foams or anything "molecular" -- but the dishes are pleasing in the slow food style.

The food is complemented by the staff: there is a strong sense of team-ship among the management, wait staff and cooks. I especially like their process of eliciting genuine feedback so they can continually improve and evolve -- critical for a new restaurant that is looking to develop a long-term presence, and (sadly) often neglected.

The restaurant is located just up the road from the Bintang Supermarket in the vintage Taman Indrakila Hotel. The view overlooking the ridge and much of Ubud makes you want to linger over your coffee -- which is, of course, excellent local Arabica.
