We have stayed at the Alam group hotels several times and keep returning, because they are such beautifully authentic Balinese. The rooms are large, the outside bathrooms so great, and the grounds so beautiful. Unless you have been to this type of hotel, it is hard to describe. The rooms are like small bungalows, with hand carved Balinese furniture. The staff could not be nicer and very helpful. The people of Bali are generally so friendly and they make visitors feel so welcome. The view over the rice field from our porch, with a sofa and a day bed was so beautiful that we spent a lot of time there. The hotel has a small pool, which was a very relaxing place to hang out. The breakfast that is provided with your room is great and afternoon tea is also available. There is a great, new little Balinese restaurant across the road form the hotel and the famous Lake Leke restaurant is in walking distance. One can walk to Ubud through the monkey forest ( a bit of a walk) or the hotel van will take you and pick you up when you call. We booked over Nyepi, the new year's day of silence, when the entire island, even the international airport is shut down. It means staying on the hotel grounds and ordering food ahead, but we enjoyed the day very much. The evening before was great, as there were parades in every neighborhood of spectacular constructions of evil characters that were marched along the streets with music and then burned at the end of their runs. A tip for a great driver: we have always used Mr. Eka (eketrip@ymail.com). The hotel will contact him for you or you can email. He picks us up at the airport and has taken us all over the island on different trips. His prices are very reasonable and he speaks good English.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great, but remember that you are staying in a Balinese bungalow, not a 5 star ceme...

Staying in a traditional Balinese hotel overlooking the rice paddies was indeed a wonderful experience. The size of the rooms in these suites will blow you away. We stayed in the Casuary Suite and it was exactly as shown in the photos of this property. Wonderful breakfasts with plenty of food, afternoon tea and cake and free shuttle service to the downtown...it was like heaven. Staff were amazingly friendly.

We reserved at Alam Jiwa at the suggestions of friends, and we were very happy with the stay. The staff was exceptionally pleasant and the accommodation exceeded our expectations. The suite was large and bright, with a king bed, quiet and effective AC, a large outdoor shower with a view overlooking the rice fields. We enjoyed a lovely breakfast with loads of fruit, juice pastries and tremendous balinese coffee with hot milk. The pool was lovely. The afternoon coffee was a welcome treat, again served with cake! The resort is within easy walking distance from downtown Ubud, thru Monkey Park, but was far enough away to be quiet and restorative. The stay included a free shuttle to and from the downtown area. This was really a spectacular location, made all the better by the cheerful, friendly and warm staff. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: We stayed in merapati, top floor of the building and had an expansive and private view of the rice f...

We stayed at Alam Jiwa for 5 nights from the 16th to the 25th Feb. It was our second visit, this time we stayed in Garuda room on the ground floor which was very spacious, had a large balcony and an outdoor bathroom. We had a beautiful breakfast on the balcony every morning overlooking the rice fields and very much enjoyed the afternoon tea/coffee and cake ! The staff were very friendly, they provide a free shuttle service into Ubud on an evening. Alam Jiwa is located in a nice village with good local restaurants. It is on the edge of the Monkey Forest within easy walking distance to Ubud through a path around the side of the Monkey Forest.

2 parties stayed here at the end of a Bali Holiday and both agreed Alam Jiwa ticked all the boxes. The upstairs rooms overlooking the rice fields are amazing, as is the indoor/outdoor bathroom. I have stayed at Alam Indah and Alam Gili before and the breakfasts are the same - superb! Much as I like to try different places each time I come to Bali, I will definitely come back to the Alam Hotels - just try a different room each time. I love the fact that the rooms are really Balinesey, so you feel like you are in Bali, not just some random hotel that could be anywhere in the world. The pool area is gorgeous also and enjoyed the couple of evening swims we did have. The staff are super efficient and so friendly and accommodating - most you will find have been there many years like, 10, 12, 15 and 18 years...That says something to me - like they love their job, are also well looked after and the owners must be lovely people...

Room Tip: All the rooms are good (I have seen Merpati, Hanoman, Jalak Bali and Jatayu) - you may just have to...

We loved our stay at Alam Jiwa for 4 nights recently. The room was very large with a lovely spacious bathroom and verandah. The walkway to the room was so pretty and kept very clean. The view over the river and rice paddy was so pretty and relaxing. The staff make this place as they are so friendly and helpful. Plenty of water available, afternoon tea anytime from 3-6pm and tasty brekky on the balcony. We enjoyed the walk into town past the monkey forest and the monkeys didn't bother us as we had no food on us. The shuttle was handy in the evenings as they would pick you up and drop you off anywhere. The walk through the village is lovely too. We were sad to leave Alam Jiwa and definitely hope to go back sometime. The staff gave us flowers for our anniversary to top off a wonderful holiday.
