Best thing about the stay in Jasan is that you are NOT directly in the tourist places in and around Ubud, but just 30 mins away. "Why", you ask?
It's about hospitality not just your money. It's authentic culture and traditions all around you, not a show for tourists. It's a little more expensive than elsewhere, which makes it special, secluded (if you like) and for the money very luxurious!
The village people are open and welcoming (got even invited to a wedding and party after!) and seem to really care about giving you a good time!
If you, however, want to party, have large food variety and/or Westerners around you: either stay away or come with your own means of transportation ;) (the manager Made will tell you a jeep is the best and safest option, but I was fine on the bike as well)
Merta House was just as pictured! We had an excellent 5 day stay there! Made and his family were very accommodating and welcoming. The house is in a rural area, but still close to Ubud and other central attractions. You are able to order from a western restaurant or local restaurant at any time. Breakfast was delicious every morning. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Bali. Overall, it was a wonderful experience!
Merta House is a must-stay if you're heading to the Ubud area of Bali. It's an amazing, authentic Balinese villa that's gorgeous inside and out. Even better is the personal attention from Made and his family. Made arranged tours and transportation for us, and invited us along with his family and village for an incredible day of temple celebrations. Merta House is an awesome location for exploring rice terraces, cycling tours with volcano vistas and visiting Ubud. The breakfasts are delicious, as are the dinners that are available for order. Staying at Merta House was the best part of our two week stay in Bali, and we look forward to a future visit! Thank you Made and family!
My daughter and I stayed at Merta House for 3 days. The villa is beautiful and very comfortable. We enjoyed our walks through the village and nearby rice terraces. But what I loved most about our stay here was the way we were cared for by the manager Made and his family. Of course, they made sure we had everything we needed. But I especially valued the things like being invited to his home next door for coffee (and a quick tour) which let me really see how a typical Balinese family lives and how central religion is to their lives. With Made, we had an inexpensive customized tour as well. For example, instead of doing the touristy tirta empul water blessing, Made suggested going to Gunung kawi sebatu instead. This was perfect-tranquil and truly spiritual-from the offerings and sarongs his wife provided, to his careful explanations. This is the kind of thing we would have missed staying in some hotel. Instead we saw the real Bali.
Our family of 4 (kids 4 and 6) didn't want to leave Merta House. We booked on a whim for 5 days at the end of a beach resort holiday. We got to see a different side of Bali as well as the amazing sites and cultural experiences. Made De Ana and his family are so welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Being in a central Bali village was a great experience, and we participated in the rice harvest ceremony at the Village Temple on our last day with the whole village.
The kids also loved the house and pool and "cubby" in the garden. All the mod cons, lovely warm shower in a sunken bathroom, DVDs, books, kitchen, brekky made for you daily, fresh towels daily. It is a great location to visit the volcanos, elephant park, Barong theatre, butterfly park, Ubud (which is so noisy and busy we were glad we didn't stay there), monkey forest, hot springs, rice terraces, local artisians and painting school. All our family and friends are now planning a trip to Merta House! Thank you Made, Nic, Sergio and Jasan Village!
Merta House in Jansing Village - is the perfect place to base yourselves (and your family) to experience and explore the real Bali. Just
- 20 mins from Ubud's vast array of temples, monkey forest and waterfalls
- 20 minutes from "must see" temples to the north on the side of an old volcano crater and
- just 10-20 mins from major creative art centres (wood and stone carving, traditional painting), barong dancing theatres, elephant park,
Made, who runs, Marte House is the perfect host and tour guide, so generous and positive, helping to show you the real Bali, He and his family and Village have made our trip so special. We will recommend everyone we know and met come her and stay here. It has been a magical and inspiring trip for our family.
My husband and I spent at Merta House one week. It was unique opportunity to immerse into balinese village life without compromising modern amenities. The pool and garden are wonderful! But above all was human interaction with Madi (the property manager) and his family. Madi also provided transportation to any place we needed and at any time. His warm hospitality and genuine desire to make our vacation to be the best experience cannot be overestimated!
