“Take the warnings seriously and it can be fun!”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

I love The Monkey Forest for the amazing awesomeness it offers to people! Live monkeys literally running up your legs to your head and grabbing bananas from your hands. Where else can you do this?
BUT, you have to use caution. These guys get over fed and have learned to intimidate and even become aggressive to the tourist. If you have something they want, don't try to tug of war with them. My daughter was bit, friends have been scratched and snapped at.
It's like anything.... this is their home. We are entering their territory and we need to respect it. For photos and incredible memories, this is a must do! Just be smart and don't try to contain or hold the monkeys!
The entrance fee is like $5.00 but if you look to the left of Monkey Forest, or ask your driver, there is an alley where you will see motorbikes. If you walk down that alley, for those of you on a backpackers budget, you can see the monkeys everywhere too! If you have food, they will come to you.
I think adding that last information is only fair. I have been on a budget and wanted to visit places I really couldn't afford to. So, tips like this help everyone.
Oh, last thing! Go to the market BEFORE you plan to feed them. The bananas there are too expensive and they don't bargain well. They know they can get premium price since you are already there! And, the monkeys eat as much as you give them so stock up and then hide those bananas so they cant see them!
Enjoy and be safe!

“That's entertainment!”
Reviewed November 19, 2012

Apart from being the coolest place in a hot town, the forest is beautiful with awesome trees, stone carvings, mossy staircases and paths, etc. The monkeys are cool, real show-offs, and not as aggressive or dangerous as many would lead you to believe... as long as you don't feed them. The best part is the little circular pool - on a hot day the monkeys are thick in the water (they love it as much as we do) and funny as can be. I was hesitant to go there at all but once there I stayed for hours and was totally entertained. Love it!

“Monkeying Around”
Reviewed November 19, 2012

Lovely experience with around 600 monkeys from babies to big boys. Theyre playful some may jump up onto your legs or shoulders. Dont take shopping bags as they think its good n are known to steal them. Same with sunglasses etc they dont know any better than to play and take stuff.

“Make sure you visit the Monkey Forest”
Reviewed November 17, 2012

Lovely ruins in the forest, but take no food in your bag, they can smell it and you might have a tug of war on your hands. I only had chewing gum.
