I live in Ubud and end up coming back here each time I have friends/family visiting. It's a must see attraction when visiting Bali. Not just because Monkey Forest is an amazing jungle setting with temples and rivers but because it's in the middle of Ubud. While visiting you likely won't be there longer than an hour. Tons of photo ops and monkeys everywhere. Don't make eye contact and hold your possessions close. It's tons of fun and I recommend it.

Basically, it is just an open-air zoo. they allow the monkeys to roam wherever they want, and they can leave the confines of the forest as well. They feed the monkeys, mostly sweet potatoes, but as far as I could tell, did not allow customers to feed them directly. The monkeys can get a little aggressive, so you have to make sure that everything is put away while you're walking in the park. I don't think you'd want to come here a bunch of times, but for a quick our stroll through the park, it was very pleasant.

Nice place, a lot of monkey (fairly friendly). Worth it if u have a day free. Avoid bringing in plastic bags or loose items.
Entry fee $50,000 (Nov 18)

We had a walk around the forest today and what an experience. As long as you are kind to the monkeys and don't hassle them, they won't bother you. An amazing experience and a must go when visiting ubud.

We went once and it was an experience. Never do again. Seriously, a monkey tried to steal a girls earrings - her husband shooed the monkey away and it bit his shoulder!! Then later a HUGE baboon jumped on a woman’s chest grabbed her and seriously tried to steal her bag! Not even joking. Maybe worth entering 50-100m then leaving

Ok,Ubud is very interesting, loads of culture, great mask shops, all sorts of cool stuff.....the Monkeys... are not cute, not friendly, and love ignorant tourists.Dont wear sunglasses, don't carry phones, don't feed em,and don't be fooled by em.
They are ok at a very long arms length, the sanctuary is very beautiful ,the inmates aren't.

My fiance and I booked a tour guide and visited Monkey Forest for about an hour. In typical fashion, I read a lot of reviews on Trip Advisor and was worried about the Monkeys biting, harassing or stealing from tourists.

Our experience was completely different! Our tour guide (Ketut from Bali Safe Drivers) told us to keep our belongings in our bag (except our phone to take pictures) and act natural. The monkeys were great to watch and and not a bother at all! We took plenty of pictures and never felt uncomfortable. Highly recommend going!

Pro Tip: Go early in the morning around 9AM when they feed the monkeys. They all come of out of the forest and you can get great pictures. Also, there's not many other tourists there and it's not crowded.

It was hot, of course, but the tree canopy makes for a nice shaded walk. There are many monkeys to watch and take pictures of. There are also many workers around the supervise the monkeys and visitors.
