I cant wait to go back. Perfect balance of a modern property amid the classic beauty and excitement of Ubud. Right down the street from the Monkey Sanctuary (which I highly recommend) Staff was amazing! Very welcoming, knowledgeable, and helpful. The concierge helped us make reservations for restaurants, spas, and transport. They also have a hotel car service that will drive you anywhere you want if it is available. If you have an option to include breakfast do it. Hands down the best breakfast I've ever had thats included and top 5 breakfasts I've ever had in my life.

Pleasantly surprised by this hotel. Obviously a new property, all rooms (I assume) above ground have views of the rice fields, and those on the ground have direct access to the gardens and/or the pool area which are pretty and well maintained. The rice fields themselves become an extension of the gardens that you can wander through.

Alaya Resort is not laid out in other typical Ubud "houses" with separate buildings in a compound. This is definitely a Western-styled resort. The narrow street face hides the long length of the hotel towards its in-house spa at the rear, and a nice breezy chill-out little area with couches where you can read books, meditate, yoga, etc. in peace. It is fronted by a restaurant that functions as the breakfast area for guests.

Breakfast is a-la-carte with a good selection that includes Western, Continental and Asian flavours, in ample sizes and very well presented. I tend to think they may have a Western-trained chef due to the quality of the food. The afternoon tea with local sweets is a nice inclusion to the room rate.

The rooms are large; nicely furnished with a big comfy bed and an outdoorsy deep circular bath tub and shower area. There is quite a large balcony with a daybed and dining setting. Ceiling fans above the bed and on the balcony which were mostly used instead of the a/c as it is already much cooler up in Ubud, and a better way to blow the mossies away.

Location is ideal in the fact that it isn't in the centre of Ubud yet only a 15-20min walk away along streets littered with numerous interesting shops and dining places. Monkey Forest is even closer.

Definitely a retreat; whether for short or longer stays, it's a very relaxing place to stay.

My husband and I stayed at Alaya for 5 nights after reading reviews on trip advisor. Our initial impression was excellent - check in was prompt and friendly, room was spotless, grounds were lovely. We requested a room overlooking the pool at the back of the property but were placed nearer to reception, over the driveway. Unfortunately, this came with a really large amount of noise that got a bit tedious. Staff members would congregate down there, talking and shouting loudly from about 6:30am until around 8:30pm. There were also cars and mini buses coming in and out. The issue may also lie in the flimsy wall partition between the room and outside corridor. I believe this has been mentioned in previous posts and would definitely be enough for me not to return to the hotel. The positives? There are many. Generous complimentary breakfast and afternoon tea, lovely views from the rooms, great location, friendly staff, comfortable beds. If you can overlook the driveway and corridor noise, you're in for a nice stay!

It's taken me a long time to write this review but thats only because Ive been trying to come up with the perfect words to describe my experience at this hotel. Normally my mom and i don't stay in hotels, we prefer the more cozier feel of a bed and breakfast, but this one time we decided to take a chance and see what all the fuss was about.

Let me tell you, this place is amazing. From the minute we walked in and were greeted by the incredibly friendly staff, to the moment we left everything was perfect. The pictures of the rooms do not do justice to how nice they actually are. Turnover service is great, coming by twice a day to clean up the first time, and then at night again to check in if you have everything you need. Theres a mini garden, yes a garden next to your shower and probably the best cable selection at a hotel i've seen in years. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the pool area is gorgeous. We also couldn't hear any outside noises while sleeping. Location is prime, about a 6 min walk to the money sanctuary and 10 min walk to the market. The breakfast that was included was also the best breakfast i have eaten, not just at hotels but in general. A complimentary bread basket with jam and vanilla butter, a fresh fruit platter with yogurt and a choice of any "set". I usually chose the pancake set or western breakfast set, always fresh, hot and extremely well prepared.

HERES THE BEST PART

We only stayed here for a couple of days, because my mom had originally booked a bed and breakfast for the duration of our stay. Unfortunately the bed and breakfast was booked the first two days we were in Ubud and we had to stay at Alaya for the first two days until our bed and breakfast had room. We loved Alaya SO MUCH that when we got to the bed and breakfast and saw how much better Alaya was, we walked all the way back to Alaya and tried to book it again and cancel our B&B. When the B&B told us that we would not get any of our money back and had to pay full price for all 7 nights, we decided to tough it out at the B&B. But i still trekked my way(a 30 min walk) back to Alaya twice to eat at their restaurant and once just to say Hi. I wasn't kidding when i said their staff was friendly. I had taken a fall off of a motorbike and even though i wasn't staying there any longer, they took time to search out a first aid kit, clean up my wound and patch me up. I don't know many people who would do that.

We stayed here in July so my wife could go to the Yoga Barn. It is right next door. We arrived early and had breakfast after our flight from New Zealand. Check in was smooth even tho we had arrived at 8.00am although our room was not ready. We found the property to be tidy and clean with attentive and friendly staff. Breakfasts were good and hot. Coffee was very good. Near a supermarket for any needs and close to any retail if the desire arose. Good restaurants nearby for variety. The Kafe at Yoga Barn which is vegetarian is very very good, try the Samosas and there healthy drinks. Pool area was nice and relaxing. Not a large hotel so this meant it was a lot more cosy. Would definitely stay again. We had a room on the upper floors with views over the rice Paddies near the pool end away from the street and would recommend the back block of the three blocks. Had a massage at the Jala Dala and felt this was fantastic with wonderful décor.

Room Tip: Get a room towards the Pool end of the complex on the upper floors

We stayed here for our honeymoon and we had a wonderful time. The resort is located 10 minutes walk from the centre of Ubud, there's a supermarket right nearby for everything you might need, the rooms overlook rice paddies.
The service was great. Someone else commented that they had a different experience, my impression is that it is a new hotel, not everything is ironed out yet, but the will to help and to find solutions is there.
The resort is not too big, just the perfect size, very pretty, very consistent.
I would definitively stay there again.

I spent three days 23-26 Aug in Ubud at the Alaya.
My first time in Bali and I wil be back. I travel extensively and this hotel has everything a 5 star hotel should without the price. The staff were so helpful, the room was magnificent and the room service and spa excellent.
The strategic location includes walking distance to all the sites, shopping, eating out locations and a supermarket next door should you need anything or want to buy cheap eats/alcohol on the way home. Bycycle hire is avail across the road.
My transfers to and from the airport were painless.
A note on the bathrooms - shower heads the size of dinner plates and exceptional natural bath products (so good I bought some from the hotel).
The spa offers a range of treatments - I had the Balinese massage and it was perfect (I like a strong deep tissue but I expect you can ask for specific pressures).
Overall an excellent place to stay and I wil be back.
