Description: In December 2011, after the renovation of a disused picture gallery in the small village of Penestanan Kaja, near Ubud, Bali, Cafe Vespa opened its doors to the general public. The space could be described as small, unintimidating and relaxing, with friendly and efficient staff. Our in-house bakery provides fresh bread, croissants and cakes, with the kitchen also cooking up a varied breakfast, lunch and dinner menu. Cafe Vespa prides itself, in what we believe to be one of the best coffees in Bali. We describe it as a velvety, full-bodied, artisan style coffee, prevalent in cafes from London to Australia. Our own 100% Arabica blend of Indonesian Toraja, Aceh Gao and Bali Kintamani is roasted to our specifications and delivered freshly roasted to us each week. For additional freshness each cup is freshly ground and served with the best quality milk. For those who do not do coffee, Vespa also has one of the best choices of teas, both healthy and classic. For the fruit and veggie drinkers there's a great range of sugar and ice-free juices. From a cultural standpoint Cafe Vespa not only provides great food and beverages but also serves as a centre for social interaction: the cafe gives visitors a place to congregate, talk, write, read, entertain one another, or pass the time on an ipad. The WiFi is also pretty good.

“Good pit stop”
Reviewed October 11, 2012

Went there for a cold brewsky on the way back to the Four Seasons. Service was friendly. Definitely an alternative crowd from nearby bungalows and guest houses. Must have really good pastries, cos every other person there seem to have a box of something with them.

“Vespa for Veggies!”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

There aren't that many places where you can go to eat veggies in so many different forms! I was very envious of my husband's large wooden bowl brimming over with salad, complete with fingers of ciabatta and vinagrette served on the side - a massive serving of mixed veg. He loved it. He also had pumpkin and ginger soup - the ginger was a bit subtle - but he enjoyed it. My chicken curry with yoghurt was not really spicy as advertised, but it was tasty, did have yoghurt and what I think was an overly generous addition of cloves.
There were a number of japanese people enjoying sushi - probably nicely authentic as the australian owner's wife is japanese.
The menu is packed with choice - many of which use veggies in one form or another as the main ingredients. I can definitely recommend their Jamu Jamu - delicious drink of orange juice, tumeric and honey. My other half knocked back a couple of Storm beers.
Cafe Vespa is open 8am to 10pm on the Sayan road just past Penestanan Kaja banjar crossroads. It is an intimate space with mis-matched wooden tables and chairs, an open kitchen and a nice vibe.

“Nothing special”

I was there twice and for me it was more or less okay - but not something special. I didn´t like the atmosphere - too dark and not very communicative.

“nice place to hang out”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

creative menu, well prepared, inexpensive, definitely geared to the healthy side of eating. Can be busy, has wifi connection, visited mostly by tourists staying in the local area. Next to Ting Ting's glass shop, which is also interesting to visit since it is right next door.

“Consistently Good”
Reviewed September 15, 2012

Visited Cafe Vespa several times in the past few months and it's one of the best.
I would highly recommended the chai (it's delicious) and the chicken curry is one of the best I've had in Ubud - spicy, tasty, fresh. There's a good selection of fresh food, cakes and rolls and a great breakfast menu. The staff are friendly and always make you feel welcome. Neil (the owner) is a coffee perfectionist so the coffee is good too!
Cafe Vespa has a laid back and friendly atmosphere, wifi is available. Looking forward to going back!
