“Gorgeous villa”

What a gorgeous property! We, our children and extended family thoroughly enjoyed our 5 night stay.
On the plus side, the pool was wonderful and of a very decent size. So lovely to cool off after the heat and humidity. Our teenagers absolutely loved it. The grounds were beautiful and a pleasure to enjoy. The house itself was gorgeous with such attention to detail. Sleeping outside under the mosquito net was absolutely lovely, apart from the dog barking sporadically. Juli, the driver, was lovely and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Maya, the housekeeper, kept the house spotless and was very unobtrusive. The masseur Juli arranged to come to the house was magnificent and worth every dollar.
On the down side, we found the internet connection was very sporadic and not up to the standard of other accommodation we have stayed in at Bali.
Unfortunately, the breakfasts were too greasy for our palates, but we are very fussy with our food. The juices were yummy.
I wouldn't recommend the villa for young toddlers as the stairs were very steep and the balustrade in the second floor was not very high.
Reports about the annexe were very positive also.
Overall, we were very impressed and would definitely stay there again.

This is really a beautiful villa in an amazing setting. Hidden away from the main road and nestled amongst the padi fields Rumah Cahaya is a secret oasis away from the hustle and bustle of Ubud. Why stay in a five star hotel when you can stay in comparable luxury at a fraction of the price and enjoy the privacy of your own villa. To top it off you'll meet great people at Rumah Cahaya. Juli the manager, Ketut the caretaker and Maya the cook are all wonderful friendly people who make you feel welcome. I can recommend Rumah Cahaya to those looking for something special.

“A lovely tranquil setting - getting us back to basics”

Thank you so much Bruce for sharing this spectacular property with us. You, your brother and the Balinese family should be congratulated for bringing 'just enough' taming to the jungle. The river setting, the villa's privacy and its seclusion are a treat. Our 13yo daughter recounted, after leaving once we transferred down to Seminyak "When I woke each morning at Rumah Cahaya, it was like I had the whole world to myself"...... peace and tranquility speaks!

Juliasa was attentive and he and Maya were reliable and understanding. Ketut and his dogs were vigilant and demure and, in this setting, it was reassuring to know he was able and present. It worried us none that by night we had a micro bat, giant geckos, flying insects and one other yet unidentified furry mammal (not a luwak but certainly like it!) in or on the house. For us, it formed part of the real tropical experience; probably not everyone's cup of tea, but fine for us. And we tried living in the magnificent pool - till we shrivelled each day.

The location was very handy as we are all mobile and we loved to stroll the ricepaddy or river terrace walks to the cafes / warungs to the south and access to Bintang and ATMs on Raya Sanggingan which IS just a 6-7mins walk, even in the rain. We recommend Lala Lily, and Ubud Heaven was good too but that bit more expensive. I only found Made's Warung on top of the ridge on the last day. Overall the balance of isolation and tranquility matched with convenience and access to Ubud was superb.

The TV was not working when we arrived (a victim of the high wet season humidity I suspect) but that wasn't a problem for us as it meant we filled our days intently and retired relatively early each night with enthusiasm for the next day.

For those seeking a true Bali experience, Sandie and I thoroughly recommend the house and the region.

“You will not be disappointed”
Reviewed August 23, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

This is a gorgeous villa tucked away behind the Bintang Superket just moment away from the heart of Ubud. I went with my daughter and one of my friends that was visiting Bali for the first time. His statement was "You knocked it out of the park". It was just so beautiful we felt like visiting foreign dignitaries. We took the villa and the Annex and it was amazing.

“Amazing Location - Gorgeous Villa - Wonderful Experience”

Thank you Bruce for sharing your beautiful Villa with us - we will be back! Rumah Cahaya is a beautiful Villa located on the banks of a river amongst rice paddies. It is within easy walking distance of the local village and also very close to the local Bintang which is well stocked with groceries for your stay. There are also many small warungs within walking distance which serve delicious local food at very reasonable prices. Our breakfast cook Maja arrived every morning to prepare a delicious breakfast and we sat on the beautiful verandah of Rumah Cahaya looking over the rainforest with bird sounds and calls all around us. The swimming pool is very large and surrounded by beautiful gardens and it is so inviting it is difficult to leave the Villa, Rumah Cahaya presents as a very clean beautifully prepared luxury Villa - a wonderful place to relax and unwind - and if you need wifi we had no problem at all accessing wifi at the property. Juli is a great driver and available to take you wherever you want to go - though it is very difficult to leave Rumah Cayaha! we met Bruce the owner of this amazing property while we were there - he is very generous with his time and has a lot of local knowledge which he is very willing to share - thank you for everything Bruce we had a wonderful time.

“Wonderful balinese house in Ubud”
Reviewed August 16, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We are a family of 4 and arrived directly from France to Ubud. We were so delighted when we discovered the house in the middle of the rice fields. We stayed there 7 nights and everything was perfect : the location not to far from Ubud centre, but really quiet and magical in the rain forest, the local restaurants, the local supermarket, the house itself, so bright and beautiful with the outdoors bathrooms, the lovely swimming pool, and of course the nice staff with delicious breakfast every morning. The owner as well is really helpful and makes his best for you to feel at home and not in an impersonal hotel.
The house itself is more beautiful in real than on the photos.
