I have seen many lovely villas in Ubud, but for me, this is one of the top choices in the area for a comfortable, eco-friendly, and safe stay. I recently spent the night with a group of friends from the US. This villa is built in a lovely "normal" neighborhood, in a very sustainable way, and the villa has good eco friendly practices such as providing water from the large refillable bottles instead of single use bottles. The large house itself has plenty of wood and greenery, a large screen tv, large bedrooms with antiques everywhere, a huge kitchen, lovely pool overlooking the jungle, and most importantly to me...cozy seating for a large gathering that is not in the sun! Also, the living room can be open or closed, and that is a huge thing because many villas are only in the "open" style which lends itself to lots of bugs and things...

The staff are super friendly, obviously love their jobs and are very confident in their competence...(not the obsequiousness you sometimes see in other villas) . Plus, the breakfast here was better than any restaurant in Ubud... At night we had a special dance and music performance with young Balinese and that was super sweet.

Also, there is no fitness center, but the Ubud Ftiness center is right at the end of the street, about a 5 minute walk away.

We are a group of 10 guests (8 adults & 2 kids), and had a lovely stay at the villa. The rooms are all well appointed, and clean, and the entire staff was extremely attentive to our needs throughout our stay. Nurdi, the villa cook, totally spoilt us with her delicious cooking! We also enjoyed the visits by the Elfie & Monkey, the villa guard dogs!

We miss soaking & and swimming in the villa pool, and relaxing around the pool with our beers! And being lulled to sleep by the frogs, insects and other night creatures. Showering outdoors is also quite the experience!

We also miss Nurdi's cooking, and the rest of the crew! Can't wait to return for another extended stay!

We, a family of 11 people (age range 2 to 65 years), spent 6 days in this villa. We were looking forward to a comfortable property allowing us to spend time together - and this is what Villa Madu provided us.
The villa comes with a staff of 6 people - including the cook Nurdi who is incredibly good. We are vegetarians and she dished out several Indian and Indonesian vegetarian dishes for us at short notice (we had to pay for the food ingredients only). After the 1st 2 days of trying various restaurants, we figured it was best to stay with Nurdi's cooking.
Nkaan is another staff member who serves as the driver and local guide to take you around Ubud, and this made our trip very comfortable. Villa Madu is located very close to Ubud market, and you can choose to walk to the key shopping area / Ubud Palace (the main venue for several cultural performances).

The villa has a lovely swimming pool, 3 bed rooms in the main villa, and 2 other cottages (at a short walk from the main villa) - hence it can fit upto 12 people comfortably. The kitchen is well stocked - with ingredients, cooking vessels and gadgets.

The living areas are strewn with various musical instruments (xylophone, bongo etc) - and our family enjoyed these thoroughly!

I must also mention the downsides of the place:
1. It is not child friendly - e.g. - the staircase is open (no side rails / grills) making it unsafe for children.
2. If you are scared of lizards or frogs, then you wont be enjoying the villa at night. The villa is open on all sides (even the bathrooms are open to sky), and cannot be secured completely to keep the lizards out. And several small water ponds ensure an abundance of frogs.

Despite the above, we LOVED our stay here, and recommend it strongly to any large group.

Things to do in Bali:
1. Pls do not miss the Kecak dance at Ulluwatu.
2. The view and ambience at Tanah Lot temple
3. Shopping outside all temples, and also at Ubud
4. We also enjoyed our taste of Balinese Hinduism in Goa Gajah and Tirth Empul.

We found the volcano view slightly over-hyped (we did not try the overnight trek to the volcano though).
