Small hotel near Ubud, nicely tugged away between the rice fields. Amazing pool and great rooms. Hotel is only open for a couple of months and yes, there is room for some improvement. But overall my stay here was a very pleasant ending of my holiday in Indonesia. Restaurant serves good food, staff is very helpful. Free bike at your disposal. Only thing that really needs to be changed is the ridiculous price the hotel charges for transport to the airport. Of course one can arrange this by themself, but this should be part of the service against a reasonable price.

After much debating as the where to stay in in Ubud we finally decided on recently opened Kenanga Boutique Hotel. We weren't disappointed.

The Good:
Stayed in one of the "Kenanga rooms". It was a modern, stylish, spacious and exceptionally clean room and bathroom. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and the view of the padi field was a wonderful sight to wake up to. I specifically requested a room with a view and was given one but noticed some of the bungalows appeared to be tucked behind other buildings so better to request a view just in case.
The breakfast was very good and generous and the restaurant gives great views over the padi's. The pool area was very nice with comfy loungers.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the staff. They were excellent throughout and could not do enough for you. Both the manager and the owner (Greg) came to see us when we checked out to see how our stay was - this is an exceptional touch. They really care about your stay and how they can improve - 10/10 for service!!

The Not so Good:
I feel prices are too high within the hotel. The room rate is ok but USD$45++ one-way airport pick up, $15++ for guided walk in the padi field, $20 odd for breakfast (if you are not a guest) and around $80 for 2 hour spa (which was average) is too high for the area I felt.
The location could also be an issue if you want to be right in the middle of Ubud. It's about 3-4km away so there there are free shuttles from the hotel (8-10 min drive) on the hour but the last one heads to town at 5pm. Would be good if they ran a little later since not everyone wants to head out for dinner so early. But taxi's are cheap so not really a problem if you miss them or come back from town at night.

Overall:
It's a very nice new hotel in stunning countryside and we really enjoyed our stay and the impeccable staff. You won't go wrong here and the only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because I thought some of the hotel costs were a little too high.

Restaurant Tip: If you want some of the best BBQ ribs anywhere in the world, go to Naughty Nuri's. It may look like a big shack but the food is stunning (and does way more than just ribs). It's about a 15 min walk from the hotel. Just walk right out of the hotel and it's round the corner on your right hand side. Be careful of the dogs though - they seem to get a little feral at night.

Room Tip: Not sure all rooms have a view of the padi's so you may want to check in advance of arriving.

This is a small luxury hotel (c. 25 rooms). Really nice place to stay with a great inifity pool overlooking the rice fields, good food (excellent breakfats) and really nice spacious rooms with awesome bathrooms. The additional services we used were excellent and I'd recomment the massages which are available on a private terrace outside. Service excellent at all times and they moved our booking forward a week with one days notice. It is about a 5 minute drive from central Ubud but there is a free shuttle and it is very easy to get cheap taxis back.

Room Tip: All bungalows are good, but ask for one overlooking the pool.

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights at the Kenanga and had a lovely stay.

The hotel is located 5-10 minutes outside of the centre of Ubud in the middle of the rice fields. This gives it a peaceful and secluded feel. It is easy to get to the centre of Ubud as the hotel offers a shuttle service and can arrange for pick-up as well. There are also a few very good restaurants within walking distance. The view over the rice fields is simply stunning. It was great to have breakfast in the morning while overviewing the rice terraces.

We had a room on the 2nd floor which makes for better views than on the ground floor. The rooms are designed very nicely with a lot of local accents and lots of wood, which gives it a very warm and cosy but yet modern feel. Both bedroom and bathroom were very large. Beds were very comfortable and there is a large patio with sitting area that is part of the room. The whole hotel is set up beautifully with a great infinity pool to relax at. All amenities are in very good shape and everything is extremely clean and well taken care of as the hotel is very new.

The breakfast was really nice (and big!). You have the option to go for local or international breakfast. Food is very nice as are the fresh juices they prepare. The hotel also offers complementary afternoon tea but we never enjoyed it as we were out during the day.

The hotel also offers the possibility to do a 1,5 hour morning walking tour of the ricefields, which we did. It was very nice. One of the hotel staff is also a guide and gives you a lot of information and background on the area, the importance of rice growing in Bali, local culture, etc. We really enjoyed it.

Last but not least, we truly were impressed with all the staff at Kenanga. Literally all staff were very friendly and warm and from the moment we arrived until we left everybody was clearly trying to make our stay as comfortable as possible. It was absolutely lovely!

Room Tip: We went for the 2nd floor rooms which have a better view over the rice fields and probably offer more privacy then the ground floor units.

We had a short stay of 3 nights at this relatively new hotel in Ubud and found it an excellent way to begin our holidays in Bali. It is very elegantly designed and the staff are helpful. The restaurant has a really restorative view over the rice fields and the food there was excellent. We only ate the Indonesian food, but the other things on offer looked equally delicious. One of the real charms of this hotel is its size. It is not a huge resort and there are not crowds of guests around the pool etc
