“A lovely establishment in the midst of busy Ubud”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2012

This place has just the best location. It was right smack in the middle of busy Ubud but somehow this establishment delivered tranquility and made it seem as if you are not in Ubud but somewhere tucked away in the quiet, foresty part of Bali. Overall service was good and I absolutely found the cookies in the room to be very, extremely addictive (please proceed with caution when you start to dip into the cookie jar!!!!) and the local desserts at tea (complimentary) delicious!

Booking Process
- Booked via booking.com.

Pre-departure communication
- Exchanged a few mails with the establishment before my departure and the replies were prompt.

Location
- It took around 1.5 hours from the airport to Ubud.
- Though this boutique hotel was along the main road, it was 'tucked away' from all the hustle and bustle (the hotel had a non-imposing signage along the main road and a nice 'cobbled' lane/ driveway to the hotel). So it really felt as if you were not staying in the center of Ubud. Lovely really!
- Close proximity to everything! Plenty of shops (clothing/ souvenir/ F&B establishments) the moment you step out of the hotel grounds (however you cannot hear the noise once you are safely in your room). Close to the rice field trail and the ridge trail.

Room
- Very clean and welcoming.
- The balcony was spacious and made a fabulous breakfast area (you can opt to have breakfast served in your room)
- Bathroom came with a lovely tub and a separate shower stall (spacious); a separate room for the toilet.
- Free cookies and fruits replenished daily (my waistline definitely expanded during my stay here as I was preoccupied with the cookies everyday...lol)

Dining
- Breakfast was heavenly!!!! Check out the picture...need I say more?
- The free tea time spread was yummy. The offering changes daily so you do not have the eat the same thing everyday.

Activities and Facilities
- Komeneka offers a wide range of activities on-site as well as at their sister establishments. So if you feel that you just want to chill and not explore Ubud for the day, you will have options to keep you busy. Also, the staff conducting the activities were very friendly and patient!
- The pool was a tad bit small but it had a good depth.

Service
- Overall service was very good. It was just a bit impersonal at times (imagine polite but 'stepford'-ish).

Cannot say enough nice things about this hotel. We had a deluxe room overlooking the rice paddies, nice big comfy bed, big bath tub, beautiful view overlooking the rice paddies as well as those special extras that really made this place special - constantly stocked jar of cookies, room was cleaned when you were at breakfast, nightgown and slippers laid out of a night.
The hotel grounds were lovely and well maintained. Pool area is nice with afternoon tea being served each day. Breakfast each morning in the restaurant was also great with a huge selection to choose from.
Location was excellent, just outside the hotel was Monkey Forest Road with all the happenings of Ubud, however as soon as you stepped inside the hotel grounds it was quiet and relaxed.
What makes this hotel is the staff! Most of them greeted us by name and every single staff member stopped what they were doing to say hello, including gardeners and maintenance men. After a few days it really felt like home! Missed this place as soon as we left and can't wait to get back there one day.

Great location in the heart of Ubud, but very quiet & secluded. Attentive service from friendly staff. Went out of their way to take care of us. One evening we asked for a recommendation for a restaurant with live gamelan music. They arranged for 2 musicians to play at their restaurant (which is quite good) that night! Pool area small but very nice. We hired their driver, Gede, to show us around the island and he was an expert driver & terrific guide. Highly recommend this hotel.

I stayed at Komaneka with my mother in law for a girlie holiday and it was just a lovely place to be. Ubud is crowded and busy (but not as busy as any other coastal town) and as soon as you enter the hotel premises, it was all so peaceful and relaxing. It was great to have a break from all the buzz out there! The rooms were big and spacious, tastefully furnished and with every comfort. Also, gorgeous, big bathroom and BIG shower! The restaurant was fantastic too, staff was very attentive and helpful and they served a free afternoon tea every day. Menu was quite extensive, but not too expensive considering the standard of the hotel. Cleanliness was also tops. Position was excellent, the hotel is in the centre of Ubud. I was 5 months pregnant, but didn't need to call a taxi most times we were there. I would suggest this hotel mainly to couples though, we were fine in it, but they did tend to put our twin beds close together when they were doing the rooms and the bathroom has a massive glass wall overlooking the bedroom. There were blinds to separate, but still...! Haha, great place though :)

Room Tip: All rooms seemed good!

Monkey Forest Road is not quiet yet enter this hotel and once you pass reception with its beautiful water features and the charming staff all changes. Beautiful rooms, ours overlooks a rice paddy , great staff and peaceful gardens, yet in the centre of town. A great base for central Ubuf

Reading the recent reviews of this property, we have nothing to add except our endorsement. From the welcoming drink to the (almost) tearful departure, we were pampered, soothed and relaxed.
Sorry to be a downer, but Bali Belly struck us before we arrived. The staff at Komaneka were so helpful and gee whiz, if you are going to be confined to your villa, I can't think of a nicer villa to be confined to!
I would unreservedly commend this property to travelers wanting luxury, value, beauty of surroundings, faultless staff, great food, within the buzz of Ubud, but insulated from it.
Fabulous place!

Room Tip: We stayed in Villa 103. Views of rice paddies, infinity pool, quiet yet near main pool, just gorgeo...

My partner and I recently spent a week at Komaneka monkey Forest and were astounded by the level of warm professional service from the staff who were attentive but also relaxed. This place allows you to really feel as though you are in a blissful secluded paradise with only 20 rooms it has a relaxed atmosphere and then as soon as you step out the door you are in the heart of Ubud surrounded by a great choice of gallery's, shops, restaurants cultural performances and people. If you want the perfect combination of soothing relaxing tropical surroundings but located within the heart of everything this place is a great choice. Another highlight of this place is the open air restaurant set in the tropical garden serving fresh delicious food. The rooms were spacious and beautiful with unlimited bottle water and a large bath for two filled with fresh flowers. The in house massages and spa were a daily treat and worth every cent. The staff really made us feel welcome and we dream of our next return.

Room Tip: the rooms with rice field view are beautiful
