“Quiet retreat”
Reviewed May 7, 2014

Lovely positioned in the rice fields. Excellent size room with usual amenities, fridge , kettle , TV and safe. Good size bathroom , clean and functional. Breakfast was good , very busy between 8 & 9am as most people go off on day trips around these times. Nice view from the balcony , excellent in the evening with all the creature choruses and dark skies. Take a torch when out at night as some places are very dark and the pavements and roads can be seriously bad for your health.

Was expecting a spa room with great view of the rice fields. Turn out the massage was in a tiny room with 3 massage beds! The massage bed was smelly & music was horribly loud (masseurs tried to reduce volume but it was already the softest!). Had a terrible headache after the session.
The masseurs were also bad; my wife was in pain (1st time complaining given her liking for Swedish/deep tissue massage) & mine felt like she was constantly watching the time. The oil used smelt very strange, unlike the usual jasmine or sandalwood (kinda smelt like it has expired)!
The 1.5hr tradition massage was US$40 each and for this price, we expected much more!

I had a great stay here in this paradise hotel, I stayed for 5 nights , the staff is very friendly and the rooms are huge, I had the suite room with the jacuzzi, what a pleasure! Breakfast had a nice choice, water in the room every day. Also the hotel was very close to the centre of Ubud, it is based in the middle of the stunning rice fields! If I come back to Ubud, this will be the place where I want to stay again! Just 1 minor point, The rooms and breakfast room could do with a bit of paint, but that is the only negative about it! Thanks for the great stay!

Room Tip: the suite room is very good

Although the masseuse was delightful, the spa itself & money they charge is ridiculous. I had a hot stone massage plus mani & pedi totalling USD 80 (equated to 92000 Indonesian Baht). For a similar price you can visit Kuri Kuri or another 5* spa. The spa is old & not the cleanest. Nail polishes consisted of approximately x10 old Revlon bottles. The massage was beautiful, though looking at hair on the tiles spoilt it. Do yourself a favour pay third of the price at some 2* spa and it'll be of the same quality.

Biyukukung is beyond an amazing experience. We spent seven nights here on our recent trip to Bali and loved every second.

From the moment your car pulls into the driveway you know it will be special. That is confirmed when you enter reception and are greeted with a welcome drink and a view of the infinity pool overlooking the rice paddy. As an added bonus, we even got an upgrade! As you are escorted to your room and walk the path over stepping stones through koi ponds, the experience just kept getting better.

We were in a two-story room, with the entryway and bathroom downstairs and the bedroom upstairs. We had a front patio with a table and chairs as well as a giant lounger for relaxing and also had an upstairs balcony with a couple stools.

The room is directly next to a beautiful terraced rice paddy, which gives amazing views right outside the window (or right off the balcony/porch, if you're outside). There are flocks of ducks constantly swimming in the paddy providing amusement, too! You also get to watch the workers and see what it actually takes to maintain a rice paddy.

In addition to the infinity pool at reception, there's a second swimming pool located at the bottom of the terraces near the spa. That pool was great in the afternoons after the sun had warmed it up, and was a good place to watch sunset.

The porch could get a little buggy because of the rice paddy, but luckily every evening at sunset the hotel comes around and lights mosquito coils on everyone's patio.

When you wake up in the morning you can watch the sun rise over the rice paddy, and then get an amazing breakfast. They have choices of either Indonesian or Western food, and everything we tried was delicious.

The hotel is located outside of the center of Ubud, which means it's a much quieter and more relaxed environment around the hotel. There are plenty of dining options nearby, and the hotel is in close walking distance both to Monkey Forest and to ARMA.

If you want a top-notch experience that feels like you just walked into the photographs of a travel magazine, definitely check out Biyukukung!

I'll start with the positives!!
This hotel is well located close to Hanoman St and a short walk to the Monkey Forest.
The hotel rooms overlook a beautiful rice paddy field, as do two pristine pools.
The room was clean and the staff are friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately, the workers in the rice field burn off each afternoon. This makes sitting outside or by the pool very unpleasant.
There was a hole in the roof of the bathroom which was no problem until it rained. Debris from the roof was all over the bathroom and blocked the drain.
I requested to be called a taxi to be transported to my next hotel. I was charged twice as much by the hotel as I would have been if I had hailed a taxi on the street.
