“NOT worth the money”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2009

Definitely NOT worth the money.
The hotel wasn't clean. The mosquitonet had been there for ages and had big stains and was mouldy. The swimmingpool wasn't clean either. And the breakfast wasn't that good either.
Stay somewhere else - too expensive.

The Bali Graha is the type of place where one can really feel like you're staying with a genuine and warm Balinese family. We stayed there for about five nights and found the staff really helpful and interested in making our stay enjoyable. It's a family run place and we having a family of young children, were made to feel at home and the staff bent over backwards to help us in every way, even to the extent of helping us find a day nanny to give us a few hours break.
Are there areas for improvement? Well, yes. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable, but in one room it was a bit smelly, but we were moved out of it the next day. The hot water takes a little while to heat up, but we've been travelling Asia for many years, overall it's a small price to pay for the warm hospitality and fantastic location, right near the monkey forest, as well as the heart of the restaurant, shops and the a few doors down from one of the best quality and value massage places in town (towards the monkey forest). The nearby Saggitarian restaurant is also superb.
The pool must have obviously been overhauled since the last few reviews, because it was in great condition when we were there and swam in it every day. Dr Subadra (katut), who owns and manages the place is a really great guy who gives a lot back to the community, so check him out and say hi.
Finally, if you're serious only about first class luxury, this place may not be right for you, but if you are after a genuine Bali experience with warm friendly staff in a great location with good pool and pretty good accommodation, it's overall value is hard to beat.

When I first booked my trip I did not listen to the other reviews on Trip Advisor and ended up booking this hotel anyway. I should have listened!!! Terrible place to stay. The bathroom smelled of sewage, the sheets were stained, the pool was the worst. The pictures on their website are VERY misleading. The pool was not blue as in the pictures, it was dark brown with dirt. We ended up checking out of the hotel 3 days into our intended 8 night stay. We went and got a room at the hotel right next door, for a cheaper price, and a WAY better room. Listen to the reviews, I wish I had. It would have saved me a bunch of stress when I first arrived in Bali.

Don't be fooled by the photos on the websites. This hotel is poorly maintained. Fist sized holes in the mosquito nets which were needed as there were loads of them flying around. The pool is nothing more than a large pond (and dirty too). The bathroom had no hot water and the beds were thin mattreses that smelt of old sweat. The location is good and the staff tried hard but there is no way I would recommend this to anybody else.

The people working at Graha were very friendly, but the accommodation was definitely subpar. There are so many places in Ubud that are better value. The room and bathroom were smelly. Some lights did not work - others did so sporadically. Do not stay here. We were stuck with two nights abd were tempted to leave even though we paid in advance!

DO NOT stay there unless you are prepared to stay in foul smell room, choke in air freshener used to "refresh" the foul smell and swim in deep green algae rich pool. Not to mention the cracking ceiling paint. My fiancee and I got out pronto, checked in morning, scouted around for another hotel immediately and checked out the very next morning (and we woke up very early in the morning to get out asap). And for the same USD40, you can get something more decent.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights in November - 2 nights too long. Don't be fooled by the photos or descpription - this place may be cheap, but is not worth your money. The rooms are run-down, the pool is not clean enough to touch, and it takes at least 5 minutes to get any hot water (if any is available). I picked up the infamous 'Bali belly' from the breakfast.

FYI, there is no spa at this hotel, regardless if you see it advertised. We pre-paid for a massage and arrvied to find out the spa was no longer. The hotel honored the booking, which was a huge mistake on our part - the massage really hurt, I may never have another.

All in all, we wasted 2 nights of our holiday at this place when we could have spent it somewhere else - without a doubt the low-point of an otherwise fabulous holiday in Bali.
