This is a great little place offering a very good standard of accommodation in a peaceful and very beautiful setting overlooking a rainforest gorge.

Our room was beautifully decorated (as it was our honeymoon) and the hotel had really gone to town with flowers, fruit and ornate towel sculptures – this was very much appreciated. The standard of accommodation is very good; with everything you could need housed in a beautiful and quite modern villa style room. The outside bathroom was excellent, as was the MASSIVE four poster bed.

The staff there are excellent (in particular the manager Poernomo Sasongko) and perfectly walk the fine line between being available and not being too obvious. Nothing was too much trouble, and we made use of their “taxi” service ($50k IDR into central Ubud) on a number of occasions. On our last night we had a problem with our air conditioning (hey, these things happen) and the manager sprung into life into an attempt to rectify the situation – he really did make a big effort and seemed to genuinely empathise with us and our situation – what more could a guest ask? In the morning he was so keen to apologise for the fault he even put some of our bill on the house. This was really very much appreciated and very unexpected.

The Elephant cave. Udud Dedari (or “angel”) villas has an enviable location in which to visit the elephant caves as the gorge which runs left to right behind the hotel is actually the same gorge which the temple sit in. The path is a bit of a damp challenge but if you have a basic level of fitness and want to take a short unguided trek through some amazing rainforest (with ancient temple ruins and a water fall / rapid to investigate along the way) then you are in for a treat. It’ll take about 20 minutes – take LOTS of water and remember that knees must be covered (long shorts for men seemed fine). The general location of the hotel is a bit out of the way but I prefer that to being in the middle of (relatively busy) Ubud, especially as it’s just a short taxi away – best of both worlds.

The pool is lovely and open until round 11pm – great for a cooling swim after an evening out.

I would gladly recommend the Ubud Dedari Villas on the back of the standard of accommodation, its location and its excellent staff!

My husband and I stayed at Ubud Dedari for the first half of our trip to Bali in May 2013. We absolutely LOVED staying here, and of the five hotels we stayed at on our vacation, it was definitely one of the best! Tranquil, secluded, and beyond gorgeous views from your terrace. The staff is amazing, and their hotel manager is one of the nicest, kindest, most helpful and accommodating people. He really made sure we had all we needed, and upon our arrival (our flight came in around 9pm, and we wouldn't have made it back in time from the airport for room service), he took us to downtown Ubud, where my husband and I got to eat at one of the Warungs he had recommended. He even waited for us in the car while we enjoyed our meal! The villa itself is spacious (bedroom, living room with couch, TV and fridge), and we loved that natural sunlight awakes you in the morning. Of course there's the sound of roosters and birds, but it's what you'd expect when you're tucked away so far from the city center (as other reviewers have mentioned, it's about a 10 minute drive away). We enjoyed the outdoor shower (which still allowed for privacy with the high walls), and our room had two large mirrors (one in the bathroom, and the other in the bedroom). There is no restaurant, but the staff delivers your meal to you on your private terrace (you order breakfast the night before and tell them what time you'd like it), and it comes with fresh fruit (the only place we stayed where the fruit did not upset my stomach) and coffee/tea. Dinner was also very good! Prices are affordable. As for transportation, if you need a taxi to get back to Ubud Dedari, bring a business card with you, as not all drivers know where it's located, and it should only cost you $5 USD if you can't make the free shuttle back (which picks you up at the city center at 2:30 pm). I would highly recommend this place! I only wish we lived closer so we could come back more often.

We chose Dedari after reading the tripadvisor reviews and were delighted to find that all the favourable comments were true. Spent 6 days there and loved every minute. Getting into Ubud was no problem. Free Daily shuttle in at 10 back at 2.30, or dozens of local drivers willing to take you any time for about $5. Room was clean and comfortable, staff very friendly and helpful, pool a pleasure to swim in. In short Dedari lived up to evrything it promised.
