We have been to Bali many times, and to Ubud at least half a dozen. We've stayed at very high end places, as well as simpler joints, and Komaneka ranks right up there in terms of service and warmth, even though it is priced more reasonably than many other hotels in Ubud. The hotel has generously appointed rooms and an awesome location right in the middle of Jln Monkey Forest. But what really stood out to us was the genuine warmth from everyone we met - front office, restaurant, housekeeping, etc. We felt that the staff were family (to us and to each other), and it was the small touches that drove me to write this review a good 6 months after our trip. Things like being greeted with "Welcome home" every time we returned to the hotel; my teenage son mentioned that he likes jambu air and they immediately plucked some from a tree by the pool and cut and served it to him; we found the hotel slippers super comfortable and they insisted on gifting them to us at the end of our trip; by our second meal they had remembered "our" table and welcomed us like long lost relatives. This was reinforced by the little booklet in the hotel room that talked about relationships formed within the Komaneka family.
When we travel, we prefer to support local where possible, but at the same time, I have to admit that we like our little luxuries. At Komaneka at Rasa Sayang, we could do both without compromise. I would unreservedly recommend this hotel to any friend or relative who wants to have a taste of Balinese hospitality.
