Myself and husband did the Kalimudah Canyon with Mika and Gede back in June and really enjoyed ourselves. You don’t have to be super fit or have any previous abseiling experience to take the trip, all equipment and training was provided to us by our guides.
All in all it was a very pleasant but also challenging trip. Some of the waterfalls we were jumping into or abseiling were quite high and therefore a bit scary. However Mika and Gede seem to know the canyon inside out and were giving us lots of tips and helping out as much as they could so that we feel safe and confident we can do it. The trip took good 4-6 hours with at least 2 hours inside the canyon itself, we were quite tired afterwards, so don’t plan much for the evening afterwards. We had one short break mid-way for tea and snacks (yum balinese pancakes fresh from Ubud Market) and then a lovely lunch after the last waterfalls. Karenkali canyon was actually closed during our visit (low water levels inside it) so we had to go with Kalimudah - I suggest you double check with A&S office before you book if your chosen canyon is available - just to avoid disappointment or prepare yourself for different canyon and maybe a higher price. If you have a waterproof and shock-proof camera handy, you can take it with you, however Mika will take your photos anyway all the way down the canyon.
It was a once-in-a-lifetime type of experience and would love to try it again sometime. We would recommend canyoning with Adventure & Spirit team to anybody looking for loads of fun and a more adventurous trip.
