What an amazing experience to leave the tourist areas of Ubud, hop onto new bikes (with new helmets), and cycle around the local villages/temples/rice paddy fields of Ubud. We were collected from our hotel exactly on time. Our guide was great explaining and showing us traditional village life in contemporary Bali. His English was excellent and we cycled to the villager's market where the villagers go every day to buy food for the day (very different from the Ubud tourist market). We learned all about the significance of temples as the guide took us around one being prepared for a big ceremony next week, we saw the family compound (large family living), and even went to the local school and chatted with the headmaster and went into the classrooms (hard to imagine overseas tourists coming to Australia and being welcomed into the local school without pre-organisation with the school/education department). It was an awesome bike ride, and definitely a highlight of the our trip. A 'must do' in Ubud and very reasonably priced.
