I usually stay at Bali Moon Guesthouse in the Jalan Bisma area, but they confused our reservations on my last trip. Since this is quite typical in Indonesia, I wasn't surprised when they said their brother owned a guesthouse that we could stay at. I was shown to Ala's Green Lagoon (directly behind Bali Moon, 2 minute walk) even though it was late at night.

The staff at Ala's was very accomadating and even gave us a better rate. The room was big and clean. It had a great view of the rice fields and the surrounding village life. Another plus was the beautiful little garden patio we had outside our 2nd floor room. We ate breakfast there each morning, which was included. I really liked the pool which isn't a commonplace in Ubud.

Overall the staff was friendly and the guesthouse was perfect for the price range. The owners even helped us arrange transport to north Bali. We were happy with our experience at Ala's Green Lagoon. I would come back to stay and recommend this guesthouse to friends.

Stayed here with friend and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Rooms were clean and huge, with a fully stocked fridge and a balcony overlooking the pool and the rice fields.

- Location: great, calm and quiet in the middle of the ricefields, yet only a short walk to the centre of town. No need for taxi's, you can walk everywhere. The setting is beautiful.
- Service was good as well, the owner is nice and arranged motorbikes for us.
- Accommodation: Balinese style rooms, with a big bed and mosquito nets. No A/C (not in our room, anyway), but a fan that does the trick. Very private, breakfast served on our balcony every morning. Room was clean, bathroom had a hole in the ceiling but was clean as well. Hardly any water pressure in the showe, but that doesn't exist in Bali I think :)
- Breakfast: decent, not 'heavenly' as they themselves announce it. Juices are good.
- Nice touch is the thermos with the hot water for coffee and tea all day.

I really enjoyed my stay at Ala's. I liked the beautiful setting off the main very touristic and noisy roads, I stayed at one of the rooms upstairs enjoying its Balinese style and the amazing view over rice fields. Just sitting on my balcony watching the rice fields has been meditating and helped a lot to wind down. The pool is very relaxing after a walk in the nearby ricefields. The staff is very friendly and welcoming, cleaning your room every day if you wish so. All in all, I felt like a princess and had to force myself to leave to see a bit more of Bali.

Room Tip: the rooms upstairs have great views

The hotel's location is quite good in that it is pretty close to the centre of the town but beware: it is off the main road so cars cannot come up to the door - you have to walk for some minutes on narrow paths in the rice fields. It's a very nice walk but may come as a nasty surprise if you arrive with a lot of luggage you have to carry yourself. The place itself is very beautiful: large rooms in the traditional balinese style (carvings and all) in a garden on the verge of rice fields. The rooms are clean, the mattress on the bed is comfortable although the bed itself is on a kind of a pedestal so you have to be careful climbing in and out. There is a huge stone tub in the large half-open bathroom (but they provide no toiletries whatsoever, no even soap). Working wi-fi. breakfast is quite limited. The owners can arrange day trips with English-speaking drivers at fair prices.

I had a great experience at Ala's in December 2012. The staff was very accommodating of our group, even when we decided to change our arrival and departure dates at the last minute.

The setting is so beautiful. You have to walk on an elevated path through the rice paddies in order to get to Ala's off the road, but the walk is stunning. You can hear the ducks quacking and the frogs chirpping the whole way there, and the staff will carry your bags for you, too. The rooms were lovely and the price was good, about $30 USD/night.

Breakfast was delicious - especially the green pancakes, which were a big hit. We liked Ala's so much that we came back at the end of our trip for two more nights, rather than stay in Kuta before departing Bali. So glad we did - great trip, both times!

Yess, the location is wonderful, the sounds of the birds, frogs and gekko's are wonderful to fall a sleep with and wake up to. It has charme with its indonesian style and that gives it a lot of potential. The staff to us was friendly but not genuine, it felt fake. When asked critical question we in many cases got the reply 'i am only staff'. We had a downstairs room all the way in the back which was private and had a good view on the sawah's. However the terras had almost no natural light. The room was good at first sight but when we actually stayed in it it turned out to be poor at best. The bedding was not clean when we came and needs replacement altogether. The room is full of mold or fungus from the humidity, the bathroom especially the bathtub area was dirty and moldy. The roof of the bathroom was leaking. There where ants everywhere even in our bed. There is no airco only a fan. Because of the open wood work and stone work above the doors and windows without mosquito screening there are a a lot of mosquitos. All together I think this place is not worth the money, we stayed in a similar priced place with excellent facilities and service.

Breakfast was ok, fruit juices very nice. When asked the customize the breakfast according your wishes. But the term heavinly is very overstated.

When improvements are made it can be a great place, update the rooms, make them mosquito proof, make staff responsible and able to make decisions and upgrade the cleaning.

Room Tip: upstairs rooms where 20 dollars more expensive but i think similar to the downstairs rooms except fo...

Other reviewers have captured the pros and cons very well. The location is great - within walking distance of the main central Ubud attractions. The setting is great - in the rice fields so it is quiet and peaceful. The staff are great - friendly and helpful. However, the place does need to be updated. We had a supposedly 'deluxe' room which was fairly basic. The bedding needs to be renewed. Pillows were mildewed and sheets had holes in them. The so called 'heavenly breakfast' could be more appropriately named 'adequate breakfast'. There were no eggs other than in a jaffle which despite requesting no tomato came with lashings of tomato! There are so many accommodation options in Ubud that Ala's Green Lagoon probably needs to start taking note of what guests are saying if it wants to keep up or else it will soon be left behind!
