“Third stay at this hotel....good as ever”
Reviewed September 1, 2012

This is the third time I have stayed here this year. The staff were as excellent as before. They are so obliging; nothing is too much trouble.
Food in the restaurant was great quality. Breakfasts can be had in your room or at the restaurant.
The service is impeccable. Each time I came back to the room after breakfast I would find my room all made up. Bed was turned down each night.
Sunday nights they have a wonderful Balinese buffet. They put up beautiful decorations and create a lovely atmosphere.
Each stay this year I come back and notice an improvement. For example, the Balinese night and they added kettles to the room a few days before I left.
I don't think you could be dissapointed staying at this hotel, although a friend did say that her room downstairs in a standard room was a little dark for her last stay. This time I stayed in an upstairs standard with a spa. Its very spacious with a large balcony. All the rooms seem to have views of the garden and pool.

I just came back from Bali. Really recommend this hotel! The price is reasonable, staff there speak good English and what is the most important, they have a terrific cook!
You can go out of the hotel and turn left, have a nice walk along the street. They also provide free transport to central area and museums. Very close to monkey forest but I didn't go.Ubud is not that hot and they have air conditioner. No mosquito!

Back in Malaysia for 14 days now. Miss Kertiyasa Ubud so so so much. The manager - Dek Wan, the friendly staffs, all are super nice people. The rooms, the restaurant, the breakfast, the food (particularly on Grilled Duck and Grilled Vegetable and Fried Banana with Ice Cream). I am so craving for them. Go around in Kuala Lumpur try to get same quality of the food, fail at this point of time. 2.32am and I am hungry and I am writing this review because I miss it so much.

Gonna go back soon. The desire for the food is unbearable!

Having been to Ubud once before, I chose Kertiyasa's location thinking that it was central enough for a quick walk through the Monkey Forest into town yet far enough away to be quiet. It was exactly that although you could feel a little isolated unless you have your own transport. However, the bungalows offer a shuttle bus service into town and back so we could have made use of that; we hired a moped for the time we were here and that gave us the independence we needed (50,000 Idr a day from the business in front of the bungalows).

The bungalows themselves are very comfortbale with huge, firm beds, excellent AC, a minibar, wifi, verandah and an open outlook on to the swimming pool and garden. The rooms, which don't have a TV or phone, are very quiet and are cleaned twice a day. The rooms were so comfy that we ended up catching up on a lot of sleep before going out in Ubud. Breakfast is good and the standard of food served in the restaurant is very high, although the indonesian food was dumbed down spice-wise. There's complimentary afternoon tea, and having it on your own verandah is a nice touch.

The super comfortable rooms, great location and little added extras like afternoon tea, wifi and a swimming pool make this place very good value for the price you pay. The only problem was sometimes the level of English of some of the staff, but once you'd established they couldn't understand you, they went and got a colleague who could speak English.

Overall, we were very happy with our stay here and would very much recommend it as a base while you're in Ubud.

I just went to a girls trip to Bali with my friends. The moment we enter the bungalow we fell in love with it almost immediately. The staff is super friendly and always try to anticipate your need.Surrounding is so peaceful went you wake up in the morning, price is reasonable and breakfast is included.Room is very clean and tidy and they clean your room everyday went you go out.Only fault I can find is because is so close to nature that at night there will be tons of mosquitoes but is solvable by request mosquito coil from them and it is not advisable to walk out during the night as it was so dark but dinner at the hotel is good and cheap so basically nothing much to say... definitely will go back again but with my boyfriend if we want to have relax and privacy.

Kertiyasa Bungalows are really well positioned for good access to Ubud while being a haven of peace and quiet. We stayed here for 6 days in the first week of July. They are on the road above the monkey forest (actually another village called Nyuh Kuning) so only a few minutes walk from Kertiyasa then downhill through the forest to Monkey Forest Rd shopping. Driving takes a bit longer to go round the forest. We'd highly recommend them for great value while being virtually Ubud itself but providing a peaceful escape from the streets.

The bungalows are arranged in a square around the gardens (with nice pool) and balconies have a lovely outlook onto them. The warung is at the front directly on the road. Our family bungalow was one of 2 or 3 that had a private walled garden. Downstairs room with comfortable king bed and upstairs the same, accessible by internal staircase that can be locked off to make two separately accessible rooms. Bathrooms were like a verandah for the upstairs one, partly open to outside. It worked well for our family with 2 kids sharing the king bed but don't know how 3 would go. There's a lot of space in the room so an extra bed would easily fit.

HOWEVER be aware that the stair case is ceramic tiled, as with the whole floor, and has very high irregular steps which, as a parent of 3 older children now, I'd have to say are completely unsuitable for small children to go up and down (or for an adult carrying them) so I really couldn't recommend families with children under 5 years staying in the upstairs; downstairs only is safest. There's also no hand-rail for assistance because the stairs have walls on both sides.

No TVs or landline phone (great!); excellent WiFi in the rooms and on lovely balconies. Rooms could do with a place to sit as well as the bed, given their space, but table and chairs outside. No safes in rooms, or modern secure locks on doors - one external door with padlock on it, the other an ordinary key lock. But configuration of Kertiyasa means staff in restaurant can see who's coming and going.

The rooms could do with a bit of maintenance - cupboard door handle fell off constantly; downstairs room's basin tap was very wobbly and the hot water in its shower was unable to be regulated from a scalding temperature so, for safety, only our upstairs shower could be used.

These were minor things (not the scalding water though, which I'm sure will be fixed), and no reason not to stay. Service is very good, rooms cleaned early and then turned down in the evening, two water bottles per room daily, rooms nicely cleaned and with little touches of mosquito coils lit at the doors each evening and small flowers daily in the rooms. Most of the staff are Nyuh Kuning villagers and some don't have great English however they always immediately find a staff member who does if communication isn't working. The staff are really lovely and an asset of the place, and really do try to do their very best for you.

A car is offered three times per day to drive you down to the centre of Ubud and to collect at fixed times per day - they seem to contract with different local drivers according to availability. When one failed to arrive for us after our phone call the staff turned up with enough motor bikes to pick each of us up. That was fun!

Highly recommended for a restful stay, excellent value and good service.

Room Tip: Family bungalows have a pretty, small walled garden. Upstairs in any of the bungalows has a lovely...

My partner and I stayed at Kertiyasa Bungalows for 9 nights from the 11th of June until the 20th of June 2012. We had an excellent time! I booked the accommodation online (via wotif) and didn’t have any problems at all. We booked a deluxe bungalow (approx $110 per night incl breakfast, afternoon tea and 2 bottles of water daily) which was a two storey complex with a sitting room, day bed, kitchen and outdoor bathroom downstairs and a bedroom with ensuite toilet upstairs. Our bungalow had its own garden which included a pond full of cute tadpoles. (The towel swans were a nice touch too!)

From the moment we got to Bali we were really impressed with Kertiyasa. I had arranged for an airport transfer through Kertiyasa from Denpasar Airport. Sure enough our driver I Made was there waiting for us. He got us safely back to our hotel (No mean feat if you’ve ever experienced Bali’s peak hour traffic!) and over the course of our trip taught us so much about Balinese people, landscape and culture. He was really excellent!

Having never travelled overseas before, we were a little confused by the checking in process when we got to the Bungalows. They were very eager to make sure that we were comfortable. Upon our arrival we were pretty much ordered to sit down and enjoy a welcome lemon juice which was really lovely but at the time we were completely befuddled as we assumed we would just sign in and go to our room. After our welcome drink both ourselves and our bags were taken to our room and we were given a tour of our room and after that we were left to our own devices.

The room itself was both air-conditioned and fan cooled. It was also spotless with housekeeping coming at least 3 times everyday to make sure things were in order (though we barely noticed as they always came in when we out).

We got fresh sheets and towels each day and we also got two complimentary bottles of water each day. All of this was well above our expectations. They also made sure the aircon was on for us and at night they turned the bedcovers back for us ready to hop in! The bed was a four poster which didn’t have a mosquito net, however with the aircon / fan, a net was not required. Bed was quite comfortable, more on the firm than squishy side which is good for anyone with a bad back.

The outdoor bathroom was really lovely and the shower was great. Water was nice and warm. The only draw- back for the bathroom is that when you shower, water goes everywhere over the bathroom which isn’t really a big deal given that it’s outside. It was also nice having a toilet upstairs for middle of the night needs.

Grounds: The grounds were very well maintained. Lovely gardens. Pool was lovely and clean and a nice temperature too. We enjoyed many Bintangs by the pool! Importantly, as Kertiyasa is a little away from the main hustle and bustle of Ubud so it was really quiet. Luckily it’s also close enough to walk to Central Ubud in about 5 – 10 minutes however, if you really can’t be bothered walking, they also offered a shuttle into Ubud and back 3 times daily : morning, noon and night.

The restaurant: In a word: awesome. We had dinner here a number of times and we also had one night were we were given a complementary dinner as we had an extended stay. The food was sensational! Admittedly it was a little more expensive than some of the warungs in central Ubud but the quality was fantastic. As for the complementary breakfast and afternoon tea: totally ace. Plenty of western and Indonesian options, all of which were delicious! The fresh juices are also beautiful.

Finally, Kertiyasa’s biggest assets: the staff. They were all lovely. EVERY single one. Almost all of them speak very good English. They were all very professional and all extremely hard working. They made our stay really memorable and we felt really lucky to be in the company of such friendly and lovely people.

My tips: Take a torch for late night walks through Ubud and the monkey forest.

Room Tip: While the deluxe bungalow has a kitchen, it doesn’t have a fridge or anything to cook with (cooking...
