Kertiyasa Bungalow
Ranked #149 of 602 Ubud B&B and Inns
Reviewed June 28, 2012

My partner and I stayed at Kertiyasa Bungalows for 9 nights from the 11th of June until the 20th of June 2012. We had an excellent time! I booked the accommodation online (via wotif) and didn’t have any problems at all. We booked a deluxe bungalow (approx $110 per night incl breakfast, afternoon tea and 2 bottles of water daily) which was a two storey complex with a sitting room, day bed, kitchen and outdoor bathroom downstairs and a bedroom with ensuite toilet upstairs. Our bungalow had its own garden which included a pond full of cute tadpoles. (The towel swans were a nice touch too!)

From the moment we got to Bali we were really impressed with Kertiyasa. I had arranged for an airport transfer through Kertiyasa from Denpasar Airport. Sure enough our driver I Made was there waiting for us. He got us safely back to our hotel (No mean feat if you’ve ever experienced Bali’s peak hour traffic!) and over the course of our trip taught us so much about Balinese people, landscape and culture. He was really excellent!

Having never travelled overseas before, we were a little confused by the checking in process when we got to the Bungalows. They were very eager to make sure that we were comfortable. Upon our arrival we were pretty much ordered to sit down and enjoy a welcome lemon juice which was really lovely but at the time we were completely befuddled as we assumed we would just sign in and go to our room. After our welcome drink both ourselves and our bags were taken to our room and we were given a tour of our room and after that we were left to our own devices.

The room itself was both air-conditioned and fan cooled. It was also spotless with housekeeping coming at least 3 times everyday to make sure things were in order (though we barely noticed as they always came in when we out).

We got fresh sheets and towels each day and we also got two complimentary bottles of water each day. All of this was well above our expectations. They also made sure the aircon was on for us and at night they turned the bedcovers back for us ready to hop in! The bed was a four poster which didn’t have a mosquito net, however with the aircon / fan, a net was not required. Bed was quite comfortable, more on the firm than squishy side which is good for anyone with a bad back.

The outdoor bathroom was really lovely and the shower was great. Water was nice and warm. The only draw- back for the bathroom is that when you shower, water goes everywhere over the bathroom which isn’t really a big deal given that it’s outside. It was also nice having a toilet upstairs for middle of the night needs.

Grounds: The grounds were very well maintained. Lovely gardens. Pool was lovely and clean and a nice temperature too. We enjoyed many Bintangs by the pool! Importantly, as Kertiyasa is a little away from the main hustle and bustle of Ubud so it was really quiet. Luckily it’s also close enough to walk to Central Ubud in about 5 – 10 minutes however, if you really can’t be bothered walking, they also offered a shuttle into Ubud and back 3 times daily : morning, noon and night.

The restaurant: In a word: awesome. We had dinner here a number of times and we also had one night were we were given a complementary dinner as we had an extended stay. The food was sensational! Admittedly it was a little more expensive than some of the warungs in central Ubud but the quality was fantastic. As for the complementary breakfast and afternoon tea: totally ace. Plenty of western and Indonesian options, all of which were delicious! The fresh juices are also beautiful.

Finally, Kertiyasa’s biggest assets: the staff. They were all lovely. EVERY single one. Almost all of them speak very good English. They were all very professional and all extremely hard working. They made our stay really memorable and we felt really lucky to be in the company of such friendly and lovely people.

My tips: Take a torch for late night walks through Ubud and the monkey forest.

Room Tip: While the deluxe bungalow has a kitchen, it doesn’t have a fridge or anything to cook with (cooking...

I stayed with my twenty-two-old niece, for five nights, with the idea of having a relaxing escape from Perth. The Kertiyasa met our needs in every way. We wanted two bedrooms, with ensuites each so asked for the family bungalow. Arrived to find a stunning two-storeyed Balinese-style bungalow, not adjoined but separate from the other bungalows. Very clean and spacious, and serviced twice daily. Would recommend the restaurant, we dined there frequently and couldn't fault the service and the spectacular food.

Kertiyasa is not in central Ubud, but still very close, which is an advantage. The place is very quiet and peaceful. It has a wonderful garden.
Walk to the Monkey Forest is just 5 minutes. Otherwise there is a free shuttle to the city 4 times a day, but the driver was taking other people to the city also outside the set times. Also when we had dinner in the city we could just call for pickup.
The restaurant is great, we loved the food! Their fresh banana juice is the best I had in Bali (and I have had many).
There is no TV in the room, which we did not miss at all. The internet on the other hand is excellent.
The rooms are big and the bathrooms very spacious.
At first we thought there is no hot water, but it just takes a minute until it reaches the first floor.
The staff was always nice and friendly. The service was flawless. Housekeeping always managed to clean the room completely, bring fresh towels and complimentary water while we were having breakfast. In the evening when we came home the mosquito ciols were already on on our terrace.
The only thing we had to get used to wass locking the door with a padlock.

This is the first time I have stayed at the Kertiyasa Bungalows. I stayed for 27 days.
I found the rooms very roomy and clean. The airconditioner worked well.
I found that not having a phone in the room was excellant and I found that I did not miss it at all.
The Wifi worked extremly well. The room did not have Television. A friend in Bali lent me a Television and I was able to use the plug in the room. I found that I was able to get Cable Television.
The staff were fantastic and could not do enough to help you. There is a shuttle going into Ubud 3 times a day. If outside the times there are taxis that take about 10 minmutes to get to Bunglaows and cost 40,000 rp.
If you want to walk into Ubud you can easily walk via Monkey Forrest.

Room Tip: Pay once only to go via monkey Forrest and keep the ticket. You then do not have to pay again whilst...

We did not stay at the bungalows on our recent trip to Bali (we stayed down the road) but we did eat here a number of times. The food was delicious. My husband and I had wonderful Indonesian food while our son had the chicken nuggets and they were lovely -better than I can cook!!! The staff were so wonderful and welcoming, even prepared our dinner as take away one evening when I was feeling unwell. The prices are so reasonable. You would rarely find food this good in Sydney at these prices. Make sure you have dinner here if you have children and bring a torch so they can go frog hunting in the gardens!! Wish there was a place like this in Sydney, I'd never cook!!!

We arrived late at Denpassar airport and our pick up (arranged by Kartiyasa) was there …

Arrived around 10 :00 pm in Ubud and the staff was still waiting for us to warmly welcome us (welcome drinks) and so we could have diner …

Very nice garden view from the restaurant, which is also on the street (but very few cars go through), which makes it a very quiet place …

The garden is very well maintained and the pool is a big plus, in order to relax after a day of walking or biking in Ubud or surroundings …

Monkey Forest is just nearby as well as Ubud downtown, through the Monkey forest path …

The rooms are very spacious as well as the bathroom and the big balcony is a big « plus » for the view and to enjoy a morning coffee while the sun is coming up as well as a nice drink with the sunset …

The only problem we encountered was the absence of hot water in the shower, but which wasn’t a real problem, since you need more cool showers than hot ones …

For those who need to stay connected, Internet is available (wireless) all other the resort and as well in the rooms at a good speed …

The staff of this place makes a big difference … Always smiling, very helpful and even took us to a location by motorbike we needed to visit the last morning, since we had little time left …

We will surely come back here if we decide to visit Ubud again …

Room Tip: All the rooms have a view on the garden ...

I haven't stayed at the bungalows but a group of 14 of us just stopped in for lunch mid afternoon today and boy were so glad we did. Service was pleasant and the food divine. Everyone was pleased with their meals - even our 4 little ones. It all looked amazing and was the best meal we have had so far in Bali. If you're in Ubud then make sure you visit here! We will certainly be going back before we leave!
