“Relaxing Location & Great Staff”
Reviewed November 2, 2013

My husband and I had a very enjoyable time staying at The Samara for 9 nights. The accommodation is in the rice fields, making it a great place to recharge and relax. I cannot say enough about the staff either - so friendly and helpful, which makes all the difference. I love the little touches as well, such as the daily fruit platter, complimentary coffee/tea + cake in the afternoon and the mobile phone you receive upon arrival, allowing you to call the staff to pick you up on a motorcycle in central Ubud. Overall we were very satisfied with the accommodation.

Room Tip: Villa 6 did not have wi-fi in the room.

I'm not used to writing TA reviews but I owe it to the lovely people of Samara to do this before my memory starts to fade!

After a lot of research on where to stay in Ubud, I finally decided on the The Samara, and I am so glad I did. My boyfriend and I visited Bali for the first time in September, and decided on 5 days in Ubud before another 5 in Seminyak. The Samara is one of the biggest reasons why we love Ubud so much more.

It is so peaceful in the rice paddies, and we loved how open everything was, from the dining area to the reception. Absolutely no need for your own private villa with a plunge pool here. With only 6 villas, we saw other guests only a handful of times. The rest of the time it felt like the entire place was ours, and the staff were there to cater to our needs.

They really pay attention to the details, such as refill of fresh fruit in our room everyday. The outdoor shower in our villa was amazing, perfect water pressure, heavenly smelling bath products.

Breakfast is decent (I can never get sick of mee goreng every morning). Ayu was the first face we saw almost every morning, and she's just so wonderful and motherly. She made some cold remedies for me when she found out I wasn't feeling well.

Stefano and Yubi, the owners, are both very friendly - they made sure to stop in to meet and greet us. When theyre not around, they have a great group of people running the place, notably Rusma (reception lady who always went above and beyond for us), Made, and of course Ayu. The security guys were awesome too as they were always available to drop us off and pick us up in town on a flexible schedule.

We loved every minute of our stay there, thank you Samara villas! We will be back! :)

Beautiful location and great service. The rooms were nice and cozy. We stayed in Room # 6.

One small grouse was that the toilet and the shower area sometimes had a very weird stink - not quite sure how and why, but it was noticeable and unpleasant.

On the flip side, service was exceptional and the breakfast was sumptuous.

Rusma - the lady at the reception was very helpful. She guided us to all the hotspots (restaurants, shopping and performances) within Ubud and also arranged a local driver (ask for Dewa) for a full day tour.

On the whole, we highly recommend the Samara for couples who want a laid-back value holiday in Ubud.

Absolutely loved it!
This place is just perfect. We stayed at the beautifull villa n°6 for 3 nights. Breakfasts are really good with a nice balinese touch. The lady serving the breakfast is just too nice and she adds a personal touch on top!
Location is perfect! Almost hard to believe to be so close to the crowdy Ubud center and yet enjoying the peace and quite of the rice paddies. And frog sounds at night when you walk back! You can go for a little (unguided) walk around the hotel.
If we have to say something that could be improved it is the pick up service. They forgot to mention that it is not available after 10 PM unless you ordered before that time point. Also they should create a system to easily worn when you would like to be picked up, should be simple with all the smartphones and app's of nowadays.
At the end of our tour through Bali and Lombok, Samara villas was the best breakfast, most relaxing and a place we would definitely want to return to (as soon as possible :-))!
Go there! You will not regret!

Room Tip: villa 6 is the most remote but I can not imagine other villas would not be as nice being remote mea...

I had the best honeymoon ever, very peaceful green small compound with little cute clean villas. I liked the place so much, away from pollution and traffic. Its about 600m. off the main road into the green fields. Perfect for relaxation and nature enjoyment.

We loved our stay here. We were picked up on the airport and about after one hour drive we arrived. You can not reach the hotel by car so the last part is done by scooter. The bungalows are wonderful situated in the middle of the rice fields. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The bungalow is wonderful. Very clean, with a veranda with view on the rice fields. The hotel also organize roundtrips. We did a roundtrip of one day and it was great. Our driver Ray was so nice. He was a very good guide. The breakfast was very good. From the hotel to the center of Ubud is 10 min. The hotel staff brings you with a scooter to the center whenever you want. They also pick you up. We stayed several times in Ubud in other hotels but this hotel is one of our favorites. It's a hidden paradise.

Room Tip: Reserve in advance. The hotel is very quickly fully booked.

If you are looking for an hotel very close to the center but you want to sleep inside the wonderful rice field of Ubud, this is the place for you!
You can walk through the nature or visit all the little streets of Ubud village discovering the real Bali.
All the buildings of the hotel are new, beautiful and clean; the staff is very Kind and helpful, first of all the owners Stefano and his wife Yudi…very nice people!
We tried the restaurant only for the breakfast and it was good, but if you want to eat a very good Italian food, you have to try “Dolce Arancia”: the delicious restaurant that Yudi and Stefano manage in the center of Ubud.
