Villa Kunang Kunang
Ranked #285 of 621 Specialty Lodging in Ubud
Reviewed October 21, 2012

Peaceful well appointed accommodation with fantastic staff and service. Overlooking rice fields and located just out of Ubud these villas have a lovely relaxed feel, but with all the luxury you'd expect. The villas are a good size for families, and with only three villas in the complex it is quiet and personalised. The best selling point however is the friendly and helpful staff. Made Widia, Made Bala and Kadek Aria were fantastic young guys who, after cooking a fantastic breakfast (try the banana pancakes!), would pick up our 6 month old son and play with him lovingly while we ate. They would drop us in the centre of Ubud each day just to be helpful and organised everything from takeaway being delivered to transfers to Sanur. The villas are a little out of town, a bit too far to walk daily, and quite hard to find, but are a great little hideaway from the bussle of Ubud. We would highly recommend Villa Kunang Kanang (otherwise known as Udud Hidden Villa), especially for families wanting something secluded with lovely trust worthy staff.

Room Tip: The checkered room is better than it looks on the internet.

We were staying there from Oct 30 till September 4, 2014.
The location is on the edge of Jalan Andong, where all the wholesale and retail shops lies on the two sides of the street which are easy for shopping.

The privacy of it place and viewing the nice terrace fields every morning made us feel a great escape away and living with nature.

The Triple Ma-de who are wonderful staffs of the Villa made us feel warm and as if they are our family members. Thanks for your guys for your great service and smiles all the time.

We cook some Thai Omelet and Made was quick to learn our recipe, hope in the future you are being able to challenge some to serve the future Thai Group coming. We named that simple dish as Kai Jieow.

We would surely return the next time next year to this property.

The rooms are very of Open Plan, which everyone was not quite sure if there would be some gekko or mosquito, however towards the 5 days stayed, there were not even any person of our group got bite by the insects. It was indeed very clean and natural as it has promoted.
2 thumbs up for this property.

We were so impressed by the Villa surroundings, the staff, the food, the service and the location. When we arrived we were so taken with the beautiful location and bungalow accommodation. In fact, it is not often the place looks better in real life than it does on the internet, but this was definitely one of those occasions. The Villa was kept very clean and each day you could see how hard the staff worked to maintain the high standards. Our open plan accommodation suited our family and the balcony was a great place for us to sit after the kids had gone to bed. The breakfast was fantastic and offered a variety of fresh food. My husband was a particular fan of Made's delicious Nasi Goreng. The real highlight was the staff. They looked after us so well and the kids loved their interactions with them. As others have said nothing was too much for them and as we had different experiences at other accommodation we realise how great it is to have hosts who genuinely want to share their culture with you. We have no hesitation in recommending this Villa for anyone wanting a more traditional experience of Ubud. We will most definitely return (hopefully sooner rather than later). Thanks Made, Made and Kadek for such a wonderful time.

The location, the rooms and the pool were all excellent. The location on Hanoman street was great with a 10 minute walk one way putting in the middle of the Monkey Forest and 10 minutes the other way put you right in the middle of the main street markets and a thousand shops in-between. The service was great with a thermos and cups waiting for you on your balcony every morning when you wake up and the breakfast, although basic was just great. The staff were always working to keep the common areas clean and I was amazed at the dedication of all the staff to make our stay memorable.

Room Tip: Ask for a top storey room as the views are fantastic.

We booked this villa on the strength of a previous review and while we had a lovely time there were a few issues with this villa for us. We went with our 7 month old baby and my mother in law. Although it’s a two bedroom villa, the entire villa is in fact open plan. There is only one wall which separates the beds from each other, but both rooms are open to the living room. This was an issue for both the lack of privacy, and lack of sound barrier when our baby went to bed as we then had to tiptoe round with most of the lights off. The villa is beautiful and really nicely decorated, but it’s not fully sealed off from the outside. We did get a few bites, but also more annoyingly, was the endless stream of gecko poop on everything. I had to wear shoes the whole time and didn’t feel I could put my baby down to crawl on the floor. There is also only one air conditioner in the villa which is insufficient for its size and may also be the reason why the villa smells a bit damp. The staff were really lovely and made our trip. The setting is beautiful, although it’s a long walk out of town and there are very few restaurants around. That said the staff are more than happy to take you into town whenever you want. I think for our purpose is just didn’t fit.

My husband loved this traditional accommodation, and it was very nicely done. The fire flies at night were amazing, however, the noise from the wildlife when trying to sleep can be slightly disturbing. Having said that, the staff were lovely, again, nothing too much trouble, they would drop us off in the local town in the evening and collect us whenever we were ready. The breakfast were delicious, and while there is no TV ( which was nice) they have wifi!

If looking for an experience while in Bali, this is the place to stay!

We found this accommodation on the internet search and dispite having no reviews, we decided to book as the internet site was very well completed and the accommodation sounded beautiful. Communication between the owners or management was fantastic and we were always kept up to date.

We booked the bungalow as the rice barn was already booked. The location of this accommodation was perhaps the highlight of this propery, very close to the centre of Ubud but still amongst rice fields. Our bungalow had some farmers working right in front of the bungalow so we got a first hand look at how the farmers harvest the rice.

Upon arrival, we were blown away by the beauty of this place. The staff were incredibly welcoming and immediately started playing with my toddler and baby, keeping them amused. The staff are genuinely wonderful people, we felt immediately welcomed and nothing was a problem for them. Made was extremely humble and a gracious host, who was always eager and ready to assist in anyway possible. We sprung some last minute transfers on him and he handled it with ease and a genuine smile, the staff here is what makes this place so special.

We were taken to our bungalow and WOW - it is extremely gorgeous - like out of a magazine. Flowers placed everywhere, roses, frangapanis. Beautiful furnishings, dim beautiful lighting, surround sound system, LCD television, beautiful huge beds and gorgeous deep bath to soak in. Beutiful bali coffee and teas provided as well as toothbrushes, toothpaste, beuatiful smelling shampoos and conditioner and eco friendly mosquito repellent spray. We relaxed on the deck overlooking the rice fields and watched the fireflies in the fields.....so relaxing.

The breakfasts were AMAZING - the best we had in all the accommodation we had. Fresh bread from Bali Buddha, banana pancakes, asian inspired soup which was amazing - fruit platters, freshly roasted coffee, and the jam - delicious! One morning, our baby was asleep whilst we brought our toddler over to have breakfast and they bought our breakfast to the bungalow instead which was wonderful - nothing was a problem for them.

Each time we arrived or left the property, the staff would 'gong' the drum and smile and wave us goodbye. A beautiful touch that our toddler loved.

I would highly recommend this property, we had a lovely time and will definately be returning - especially for that hospitalitiy and wonderul breakfast, the beautiful bungalow and to see our new friends again ♥
