“Next time in Bali this place is top of the list”
Reviewed January 3, 2014

We went here for dinner two nights running, even though we were staying elsewhere.

The setting by the river is beautiful. The service is excellent, and the staff is both extremely friendly and engaging, at the same time as it is knowledgeable and professional. Makes for a very relaxing and enjoyable meal setting.

And the food is just mouthwatering. What sets this restaurant apart from many others in Bali is that it uses the spices and ingredients from the region, but in a light and inventive way. It's nice to find places that don't just serve the exact same local dishes as every other restaurant in Bali, but that still use the local flavours and spices to make their own dishes.

The first night we had the daily menu, and added in a couple of starters from the a la carte menu as well. The daily menu was based on regional flavours, both light and somewhat spicy. I loved that they used fresh green pepper for the spice in all the dishes on the menu, rather than chilli. And even though I was full, I was sorely tempted to order the whole menu again, since it was so damned good...

It was actually so good that we immediately booked a table for the next night. The daily menu upon return was less interesting the next day (not that it didn't look very tasty, but it was European of nature, and we don't travel around the globe to eat European food...), so we instead ate our way through a bunch of seafood dishes on the a la carte menu. And, again, it was all excellently cooked and seasoned, and I can't recall any dish where the main ingredient was drowned out by some other flavour. And I reckon it takes some skill to consistently serve up varied seafood dishes with spices, where the main seafood ingredient itself is always allowed to take the front seat.

So after two nights on the run here, I can't do anything other than award it full marks for setting, service, friendliness and for food preparation! A professionally run establishment from the bottom up. And on top of that an inventive and obviously very skilled kitchen.

“Afternoon Coffee with a touch of Jungle Feeling”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

We actually stayed at the Samaya Seminyak (see my other report), but decided to have a coffee stop at the Samaya Ubud to conclude a long and interesting excursion day. We simply asked our personal tour guide to stop by this place. Once arrived, we have been very well taken care of by the hotel butler who showed us around and drove us down to the restaurant with a buggy.
Though we only had an afternoon coffee served with some typical indonesian cookies, we can tell that these servants are also very nice and friendly. The setting is very beautiful and relaxing (by the river and rice fields).

We stayed at Samaya Ubud last October. To keep things simple, we decided to have our first dinner at Swept Away. The food was amazing and quality of service was just as good - for the rest of our stay we ate all our meals at Swept Away. Staff are very friendly.

During our trip, we had a minor unpleasant experience in Ubud town. When the hotel staff heard about this, they went to extra length to cheer us up. That evening, they surprised us with a specially decorated dinner table - lots of flowers and tea lights! It looked lovely... other guests took photos of the pretty set up.

The Manager and the Chef are very accommodating of special food requests - it gives them great pleasure to see you enjoy your meal. Good vegetarian options.

“This is dream and ideal dining place.”
Reviewed December 21, 2013

"This is dream and ideal dining place. I love this place and when the food is delicious too it makes me pay regular visits. The place is ideal to visit with anyone. If you visit it with parents it gives you some very good time to spend. If you visit it with your spouse then you will be under its spell and will enjoy the beauty and luxury of the place. The place then turns out to be a romantic place. If you visit this place with group of your friends then the place is an ideal one to share the daily routines and incidents in the past that made you laugh.
One drawback of the place is that the food items are slightly expensive. In order to avoid paying much money it is advised to order deals that in turn give you a cost friendly solution."
