“It was OK”
Reviewed September 2, 2011

Stayed here with my family, my kid loved it because of the small private pool in every villa. The room and bathroom was big and cozy. The complex was very secluded and surrounded by paddy fields and trees. You woke up with birds singing in the morning and slept with crickets chirping at night. Too bad my villa was surrounded by wall with no access to the nice view, unless you go to the main pool and area outside. Breakfast selection was very limited. Bear in mind that it takes 10 minutes drive or 30 minutes walk to the main Ubud attractions and shops. Unless you plan to stay in the villa whole day, I suggest you rent car or motorcycle, which are abundant in Ubud. The activities and tours offered by the hotel is very expensive, it would be much cheaper to get them elsewhere.

The Bali Rich Villas were quite clean (if a bit sterile feeling), with great staff in a quiet secluded area. We didn't realize until we arrived that the hotel is located about 25 minutes from Ubud, which was a bit disappointing. However, there is a free shuttle into town, and the staff is accommodating if the set times don't work for you. We enjoyed our private pool and villa, and room service is quick and cheap.

We enjoyed the hotel and would recommend it if you don't mind being a bit isolated. Overall though, despite being a lovely place, the location and value for money lowered our rating.

At a first glance the hotel looks good and to be fair the rooms are pretty impressive. They are quite large with a very nice bathroom and beautiful bedroom. However the private pool is cold and is more suited to cool your feet than anything else as it is only 2meters wide. The tv set is placed in such a way that you can't watch It from your bed.
The location is not that great as quite remote from inner city, but an ongoing shuttle service to and from ubud is organised by the hotel. Not quite ponctual, though.
The really bad thing about Bali rich luxury villas is the continuous call from staff for you to do tours with them. And if you happen to choose the so called trekking tour you ll end up paying 20 USD per person (20% tax) for a mere 30 minutes walk in the Rice fiefs you could have done by yourself easily, without any décent comment from the guide. The tour ends with a really painful walk on the sidé of the crowded road.
So shortly nice room to stay in but better off having nothing to do with the staff and the services provided by the hotel.

I traveled with a family with two children (3 and 8). The villas were just splendid. Very spacious and clean. We had a two bedroom villa, two huge bathrooms with shower and bath, a kitchenette, huge terrace with our own swimming pool. The villa is surrounded by walls, which gives it a very secluded and private feeling. Although we missed the view a bit. The view from the restaurant is gorgeous! The staff is very friendly and are doing their best to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Every morning the breakfast was served in the villa, exactly at the time that we asked. There was a really nice guy at the reception who booked our cooking course and cycling tour. He chose the best activities, and we payed the organisations directly the prices that were listed on their websites. So I did not get the impression that the hotel earned anything from that. The hotel organises a nice morning walk though the nearby ricefields and a painting class (free). Our children very much enjoyed that. A little minus is that it is quite far from the city. But it was easy to use the shuttle of the hotel, and it was also easy to get tansportation back. At the other hand, it is nicely located above a river valley, with gorgeous views on a jungle. And you can escape the hussle and buzzle from the city. The other little minus was the food in the restaurant. It has a large menu, but the quality is moderate. There is not much in the vicinity of the hotel as other options. The spa was quite expensive.
If you need a place to relax, want a private villa, with all luxury and a wonderful service, I would definitely recommend the Bali Rich. I would like to thank the staff for a wonderful stay.

My partner and I stayed at Bali Rich Ubud for 4 nights in early August. We decided to go with the hotel taxi - $40 US which is steep to get to Ubud but standard for most hotels. Later, at check out, they threw in a 21% service and tax charge on top of this.

The hotel villa itself is okay - pretty cheap furniture and the design is seriously lacking. The 'pool' is a plunge pool, the sunbathing area gets no sun at all during the day. Breakfast is dyer, served in your villa and arrives freezing cold. Bathroom is massive and pretty nice. TV only has 1 english channel and is awkwardly positioned (you can't really watch it from bed, but there's no couch etc in the room). Location is way out of Ubud but isn't really an issue as they run regular shuttles into Ubud.

But what annoyed us the most was the relentless push to have us do 'activities' through the Villa. From the cab ride, to our check in, and almost every other visit to reception or in the shuttle resulted in being asked if we would like to go white water rafting etc. They were relentless and it always left a very sour taste in our mouth.

The staff were pretty friendly - until we enquired about the cost of getting to Seminyak. They quoted $40US, way over priced so we told them that as we had a cab driver already agree to an $18US fare earlier in the day, we would not use their cab. While we checked out, both the reception staff and driver sat on the couch telling me that I should not take the cab and 'if we lose something in the cab we will not see it again' etc and that I would not get a fare for under $35US from Ubud to Seminyak - despite already having an agreed price. Their attempt to intimidate me was awkward and embarrassing, and when they realised that I was not changing my mind about the cab, the usual happy staff turned on us, and were not interested in saying goodbye or thanks for staying.

In all, a basic okay stay, ruined by the push to make extra money from us, terrible breakfast, lack of sunlight in our villa and a few other annoyances not mentioned here.

Definitely better options around Ubud so only book here as a LAST resort.

2 stars for service - owing to a really lovely smiling driver who took us on a few shuttle rides.

Spent 8 days here. Quiet place, pretty far away from Ubud crowds but away from food as well.
Hotel's restaurant two steps from any villa, prices are good but we didn't try it, because we have a kitchen with gas and all kitchen stuff to make whatever we want.

Free shuttle buses to/from Ubud every 2 hours, not very convenient but you can use taxi for only 50k Rp.

Whole impression is good, villas are clean, big and looks rich, but there's only one bad thing - mould in bathroom, it is everywhere in the corners and management should do smth with it

This Villa is new they just open last year and just next to Komaneka at Tanggayuda. It takes around 1.15 hour from Denpasar Airport, taxi fare is 200,000 Rupiah. The entrance is not very impressive, road outside is very bumpy. Not much of a design effort at the Reception area only is very specious. Staffs are friendly and kind. The walk way to our villa has very nice landscape and plants, swimming pool also nice too it is facing natural forest. The villa got a small plunge pool, kitchen with dining table and living area. Room itself is huge very specious and clean. Bathroom has a bathtub which is big and a standing shower area. I think the shower room design is not practical, the pubble stones on the floor make the cleaning difficult hair will stack in between for water drain away is not easy, is actually got smell in the shower room. Overall room design is modern basic. For breakfast you will require order in advance so they can prepare it for you. They should improve overall menu for breakfast, the juices are blend and the breads are cold. Overall is still a pleasant place to stay.
