“Nice stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2012

We had the room on the first floor and enjoyed a wonderful stay at Padma. A great view over the gardens, no traffic noise and situated in the center. THe breakfast is great. We had no problems with geckos and the room was beautiful and clean. The pillow inside the sheets really needed to be cleaned, but everything else was great.

We booked for 2 nights, and after our first few hours we knew we would not be staying the second night. As it was late and we were exhausted from travelling, we decided to stay that one night and got out the next day. Excellent location but it was very dirty; looked like our bathroom had never been cleaned and its walls (which, in the traditional style did not meet the ceiling, but left a gap of about a foot) adjoined a kitchen. We could hear the neighbours cooking on their wok and conversing as we sat on the toilet...not pleasant. There was no soap provided and when we asked for some and some more toilet paper we never got any. It was cheap, but not even worth the US$30 per night. Breakfast was fine, but the cup and saucer had not been properly washed. Our bed was old and uncomfortable. There were no mozzie nets over the beds and no hot water in the shower - only in the bath (which was positively filthy). The communal garden is pretty but upon closer inspection is covered in cat/dog poo.
When we told management we would not be staying an extra night we were treated with disdain, even though we did not ask for our money back for the 2nd night and pretended that the only reason we were moving to another hotel was to stay with our friends, so as not to offend them. Unless you are a backpacker on a seriously tight budget, I wouldn't recommend it.

We booked 3 months in advance to stay at Padma Accommodation in Ubud. Because we were staying over the New Year period I wanted to make sure that we had somewhere reserved.

We were asked by the owner to confirm by email and telephone that we would still be arriving on the 27 December. I did both and also asked an Indonesian friend to ring and speak to the owner, Swatma, to ensure that the room would be kept for us. She assured us that it would be.

When we arrived in Ubud we made our way straight to the accommodation, hoping to be able to check in.

We were greeted by an incredibly rude woman who seemingly had no clue who we were or anything about the booking. She said that Swatma was away and would not be returning for a week. She showed me the reservation list and my name was clearly there along with my booking for 3 nights. Despite this, she had given our room to another couple. When we protested that we had reserved the room 3 months previously and had confirmed the week before that we were still coming all we got was a wall of silence and then the woman disappeared.

She returned 10 minutes later and said she had found us alternative accommodation with her friend in the Homestay next door and proceeded to march us round there.

We were taken down a dingy path to a filthy room, with broken windows and gecko poo all over the sheets.

Needless to say, we didn’t stay there and found alternative accommodation for the rest of our stay in Ubud.

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS – THERE ARE MUCH NICER HOMESTAYS IN UBUD WITH LOVELY OWNERS WHO ARE KIND TO THEIR GUESTS!

We stayed at Padma Accomodation for 3 nights and we really loved this place.
Really good value for money. Great service, excellent breakfast. And centrally located.
The room/ bungalow with outside shower is lovely.
