I contacted the restaurant by email before we left home to arrange for the smoked duck meal. Putu's husband, Nyoman, was helpful in confirming.
My son and I tried to walk to the restaurant but got lost (it is a bit away from the main area and not all the private taxi drivers are familiar with it). We walked back to our hotel and the hotel car took us.
The restaurant is simple but lovely with great attention to detail. It is small with only 4 or 5 tables. (The restroom was also very clean, and this matters a lot to me.)
Service was very personal and attentive as it was from my email correspondent, Nyomen. We learned that he also is in charge of the duck smoking, while Putu does the rest of the cooking.
Since we had preordered, our only decisions were drinks and our food arrived after a little while (it was neither long, nor short, but just felt relaxed.)
It truly was a feast. Trying to remember it all--we had green salad and cooked vegetables and several appetizers and curried tofu and several other dishes. It was all very fresh with great sauces.
We were glad to meet Putu as well. It seems like a difficult business as we observed another table angry because they couldn't have the same thing we were having (even after it was explained that it was a preorder, etc.) I would be happy to go back to Wild Ginger to order the smoked duck or to order off the menu.
