“Another wonderful stay at Swasti!”
Reviewed January 16, 2014 via mobile

Our first stay at Swasti was in 2012 and we had such a wonderful time we again visited during a trip to Bali a few weeks ago. Swasti is one of those magical places that is greater than the sum of its parts. The staff are wonderful and it was a genuine pleasure to see many familiar faces when we stayed again. The rooms are lovely and have a more lively feel as they are closer to the 'action' (restaurant and pool) but it is the cottages that are unforgettable, traditional bungalows that have been reclaimed from all over Bali and form the frame work for amazing craftsmanship and creative designs. Each one is an individual little oasis in the wonderful and serene gardens which, as well as the charming restaurant, pool and day spa, contain a fully functionng large scale organic kitchen garden. Sandrine and everyone at Swasti have created a very special place for travellers from all over the world to simply relax and enjoy Bali. And yes the Balinese feast is a joy I hope to be back for another dance soon :)

We stayed here for New Year and it was a hoot. The staff put on a feast of fantastic food which included a wide range of vegetarian food which suited us. We were entertained by young girl dancers who were supposedly the best in Ubud and I can believe it, they were awesome. My 7 year old danced the night away until we heralded in the New Year at 12 pm.

As for the accommodation it was great value and was very gorgeous and arty. There were some mozzies but not many really considering all the water around the place. The gardens and animals out back of the property were a novelty for the kids. I liked the quieter location which had a scooter shop outside which was handy. The staff spoke good English and were ever so helpful.

The only criticisms are that the breakfast was not big enough - and I am not a huge eater. Also, the massage tables were smelly and I would suggest that staff use a towel under the massagee. Some background music and better lighting would have been great too. Other than that the hot stone massage was awesome.

Thank you to all the staff at Swasti! The hotel is beautiful, set in a gorgeous garden setting, with a lovely and very welcome pool. The cottages are traditional style, very clean and very comfortable.

It was our first visit to Bali and I'm so glad we stayed here. Had chosen this place as a budget stay in Ubud but it far exceeded our expectations. Swasti is a natural, lovely, earthy and a really peaceful place. It is not artificial or pretentious in any way which is the best thing about it. We stayed in a traditional bungalow for 3 nights. It is absolutely perfect with an outdoor patio and and outdoor semi covered shower and bath area! The bungalow is non AC and the entire setup of this place is in nature which is great for non finicky travellers who do not mind the insects and the creepycrawlies. But honestly it was not a problem at all. The people there Ratna, Ketut are extremely sweet. The staff are very nice and friendly. The food is also really very good.
We also tried the spa which was quite nice. Their attention to detail and personal interest in making sure their guests are happy is a great plus. Definitely recommend this place to stay at Ubud. It is a stone's throw away from the monkey forest and a 20 min walk away from Ubud palace where you should catch an evening dance performance. Our stay at Swasti has contributed a great deal to my travel to Bali :)

Room Tip: Stayed at bungalow Gita which is good for honeymooners!

I truly miss this place! It was such a wonderful place to stay and I would highly recommend it. The service is wonderful. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are beautiful and unique, with so many personal touches. The restaurant is beautiful and offers a wide menu with delicious food. The location is within walking distance to the Monkey Forest. It's probably best to drive into main Ubud, but they can hire you a driver easily and it's not expensive. Their massages were wonderful and inexpensive. They arranged our travel by car and boat to our next location, and it was perfect. Overall it was great value for the money and I highly recommend staying here.

Our first stop in Indonesia was Bali and we decided to make Ubud, and more specifically the Swasti, our base of operations. We were not diasappointed.

From our authentic Bali hut (we stayed in the 'Dharma') to the dining room, the food, the helpful staff, the garden and of course the pool, it was a perfect welcome to Bali.

The town centre is easily accessible by foot thru the sacred monkey forest or by a side road if you want to avoid the cheeky primates.

If you go to Ubud, Swasti Eco Cottages is a great place to stay.
