This is the most wonderful place to stay: peaceful, close to central Ubud, with the green Balinese countryside right next door to your really stylish rooms. There is a graciousness here that runs right through the whole stay: quality service, splendid food, quietly efficient management, high- standard facilities, and (with all that) a serene atmosphere that calmed even our busy minds.

We are frequent visitors to Bali and Villa Sabandari is definitely now our favourite destination, a real surprise and deserving of all the positive commentary that it has attracted. We will certainly be back to this lovely property.

This is a lovely place. The Villa is set overlooking rice fields, away from the hustle & bustle of Ubud. We had a fantastic stay - the staff are brilliant - nothing is too much trouble. Each morning, your breakfast is brought to your individual room terrace. You can then enjoy breakfast whilst watching the local farmer tending his rice fields and his army of ducks , strangely captivating. The Villa also provides daily afternoon tea - do not miss this and please try the lemongrass tea - delicious. Another great service that the Villa provides, is the car service to and from Ubud - really handy.

The rooms are lovely and I am great fan of the outdoor shower. I have no hesitation in recommending this Villa and I would return at a drop of a hat - a truly idyllic experience.

Beautifully appointed 6-room boutique hotel with a lovely infinity pool and views over greenly gorgeous rice fields. The rooms are spacious, have open-to-the-sky outdoor showers and excellent A/C if you go when it's needed. Gracious service from everyone on the staff, friendly and cooperative Belgian-born owner.

You can walk into Ubud central in ten minutes, but you don't have to: the staff will drive you to your chosen destination and pick you up when you call.

Room Tip: The two best rooms are on the end near the rice fields. But all rooms are just fine.

We stayed at Villa Sabandari on our honeymoon and loved it. Its outside Ubud itself and set amongst the rice fields. There are less than ten rooms. Each is spacious and has a balcony and outside shower (not to everyone's taste or comfort but we think its the best one we had on our whole trip)
The service of all concerned was excellent and the free trips to and from Ubud really helped. The afternoon tea and breakfast was wonderful. The food provided was simple and we never quite knew what we were going to get but it was always great. We arrived late on our first night but they arranged food for us on our arrival which was lovely. My wife had a Boreh massage whilst we were there and said its the best one she has ever had. The pool is an infinity pool overlooking the rice fields and was just heavenly. However, its the peace and quiet of the place that really makes it such a great place to stay. The staff all are very attentive and so quietly efficient. There isn't any noise at all really except that of nature.

I'd recommend this for anyone who completely wants to unwind or wants a place to stay outside of central Ubud and doesn't want a huge complex, which a lot of the local places are.

Hear that? It’s the peace and quiet. The sounds of nature. The way people talk to each other in almost hushed tones. Not that you really try to. It just happens naturally. We loved this place.
We loved the changing breakfast items on our veranda. Felt sad when we couldn’t get back for afternoon tea. What they have created is far more relaxing than any 5 star hotel. You find yourself not wanting to leave to do anything else. We stayed 5 nights in August. We should have skipped southern Bali and came directly here. Next time, if we are lucky, we will stay much longer.

A strange event happened one evening while we were here. A couple showed up with two young children in tow. My wife and I couldn’t quite believe it. Really, here? In the middle of our tranquility. Didn’t they read the website? We did, it was one of the reasons we booked months ago. It couldn’t have been clearer. No families with children.

To Dirk’s credit, he came and asked each one of us if they could stay for one night. It was late, one of the children wasn’t feeling well. Any one of us could have said no. They left the next morning. In fact I think there is a negative review from them somewhere on TripAdvisor. Just a little disingenuous to say the least. Especially when you consider Dirk search around to find them other last minute accommodations.

Oh well, the challenges of dealing with people. They come in all flavours.

If you wander down the access road towards Ubud, at the bottom there is a warung called Mangga Madu. The food is good overall, the prices ridiculously cheap by western standards, and the Beef Rendang wonderfully flavourful. We would go back just for the Rendang.

Ubud is wonderful. Busy, but not like southern Bali, the pace is slower. There is much to discover in the area if you have the time.

Do stay here. Lounge by the pool. Read a book on your veranda. Gaze over the wonderful rice fields with their occasional glimpses of everyday Balinese life. Just don’t miss afternoon tea.

Room Tip: Try to stay in the two upper level rooms.

This place is Ubud's best kept secret. The Villas are away from Central Ubud but they have transport to take you there. The guy who drives the van is so friendly. Sorry I don't remember his name but nothing was ever too much for him. He even remembered it was my birthday on the day we checked out and he came to tell my bye and to enjoy my birthday. I can not comment enough on how wonderful the staff were. The only downside to this place for me was the outside bathroom and shower. Although it seemed a romantic and great idea at the time the reality was that I was met in the toilet or shower several times by either a frogs or lizards. If you are close to nature and these things don't frighten you in the middle of the night then it's a plus for you. I don't count this against the villa as it advertises that the showers are outside. I didn't expect the toilet to be outside although covered but no door.
I would still visit again although my screams in the middle of the night would not be welcomed by my partner as he refuses to stay any place again with outside facilities because after the first night I woke him up to go check the toilet before I went outside every night after that.
Brilliant Villas for people who love nature.

This place is "magic"!!! We planned to stay there 4 days, finally, we stayed 6 days. Everything is perfect... The location, the quality of the rooms, the owner (Belgian professionalism), the super-friendly staff members... And even the quality of the other residents.
Ubud is a great city, centrally located, and easy to visit other regions of Bali. But don't feel obliged to be in a rush of visiting everything. Just enjoy the place, take some time to go to Yogabarn, the best place to do some yoga, and feel the fibes of Bali in a different way.
